Both of my kids have social anxiety like their dad. My daughter had a hard time the first couple of years at the small liberal arts college she attended. Little things that require extra effort can make a big difference, like how her Freshman and Sophomore dorms had room doors designed to swing shut like in a hotel, such that everyone had to keep their room doors closed at all times starting on day 1, and the lounges were devoid of anything to bring people together (no games, no working TV, nothing), making it really hard for her to meet anyone naturally. My son, who's still in high school, is considering CSU for college. I was happy to see in one video (can't remember on which channel) that students at CSU had their room doors open and were out in the hallway and using the lounge, at least at the beginning of the year.
