The LS 944 officially moves under its own power!
I finally got to the point where I could attempt to move the vehicle out of the garage….and then right back in.
It’s still FAR from perfect but this is a start.
The clutch bites really low, I am thinking it’s not fully disengaging and needs adjusting.
The brakes exist…. But stopping requires a bit of anticipation it seems.
Super exciting to get to sit behind the wheel of a project I have been thinking about for over a decade.
Follow along as I continue to tune, restore, rebuild, and upgrade the LS 944!!
…yes I did end up dragging the quick jack out with me… oops

      Hey Don! Had to do a head gasket job over the weekend (because I have an early LS1 and had the wrong gaskets🥸) which I was surprised to find I could do entirely with the engine in the car. Nevertheless that setback motivated me to want to actually drive the car. I put my nose to the grindstone to make it happen. Hopefully I can find more time in the near future to highlight some of my more “unique” solutions to getting it working…. I also have to fine tune the clutch bite point and brakes are a must! (Which I know you have experienced haha)

    • @tedtakesitapart
      @tedtakesitapart Před 3 měsíci

      Hard to say exactly how much headroom was gained (mostly because I didn’t happen to measure). What I can say is that the stock seats and these Recaro ls are both mounted about as close to the floor as you can get. That being said I don’t think this model is intended for max headroom. I think if head clearance is a much for you, something more like a traditional bucket seat with mounting brackets on the sides of the seat may be the best route.

    I did the same with just a drill. Drilling heats up bolt at melts the plastic, but instead of molding in new inserts I used self-threading stainless steel inserts.

    • @tedtakesitapart
      @tedtakesitapart Před 4 měsíci

      Good catch! Yes if you try to drill the heads out too quickly you can build up heat and risk melting the plastic. Good to know that those self threading inserts are an option! I would also be careful threading those in to make sure the plastic doesn’t crack from the added pressure but that also sounds like a really good solution. Thanks for sharing!

    I think you have the pulley half of the pump 180 degrees out of phase with the back half of the pump. When it was apart on the workbench immediately after removing the fasteners that hold it together, the internal passages on each pump half were not aligned. Additionally, when those internal passage ports are aligned, there is a deliberate wide casting ridge near one corner on the outside of each pump half that also lines up (adjacent to the input port on the pump). The rotation arrow on the pulley half of the case will be aligned with the output port of the pump.

You might be able to work it free by removing the seat bolts, front or back (whichever are most accessible) then lifting the adjuster lever and using your body to try and get the rails to line up again.

    I own a ‘90 944s2 cabriolet. I’m in my mid-60s….retired military and LEO….I’m still active and healthy (bike, hike, backpack, kayak, and occasionally skateboard). While I used to like working on my own cars, I no longer have the garage space, the tools, or the patience, to do so. So why do I watch videos like this one? Because it makes me happy to see young people being resourceful, and all of you are smarter than me….and you are so willing to share your knowledge….and that pleases me as well. Sincerely, all of you, your intelligence, your willingness to be accepting….makes me hopeful for tomorrow. Also….whatever remaining years the Good Lord has in mind to give me….I’d rather spend driving, than working on my cars.
