I'm slightly confused about how the dice work in this game mode though, you keep saying stuff like "8 just rolled" and "I don't think another 7 will roll soon", but is the dice balanced for 1v1 ranked? I thought each roll would be completely random and isolated, and whatever has been rolled prior to each roll would not affect the next rolls?

Slow down man, forgot you had a knight for a few turns in that last game. I'd play some four player games because it forces you to play more precise. You can get away with quite a few mistakes in 1v1s and still win. Idk how new you are to the game but you gotta think more deeply if you wanna improve. For example, it doesn't matter how much that 9 rolled, that roll is his only path to victory you cant leave it open. Also I'm not just yapping I've had over 60% win rate past three seasons. Edit: I do like the channel btw, keep up the good work!

15:57 I think it's a fine first pick. You get either 9-4-11 or 8-4-3 and have a great expansion with the 9-10 3:1.

Game 2 first pick: I think 9/5/10 point up is the right idea, but it’s pretty hard to spot in game. Keeping the opponent off of the 10 ore is a big strategic win that doesn’t translate easily when looking at pure production.

9:05 this is a moment to stop and think, you have the ore and the opponent is out of settles. By going up 2 cities to 0 here you take a huge production advantage in what is likely to be a long game (lack of ore for cities). He can’t both city and dev. Devs are super nice here but I think it’s a pretty big error.

Additionally for game 2 I think the best pick is actually 6/9/3 point down. He gets a super strong 6/9/5 and 8/4/3 start, but you take 5/4/11 and build in to 6/3/11. Edit: your opponent should have taken the 6/9/3 and taken the early dev, it really murders the 6/9/5 first pick

15:10 this is an important point of the the game I think. You’re behind here with 2 ways to catch up: production and fast settles or the dev deck. Trying to hold here feels really really bad. I’d hope for any non VP and look for a good moment to self block sheep as he has no port. This buys you some time to catch up.

LOL i had such a similar start to the season. after finishing strong last season, i went like 1/4 in placement games then tilted off the earth and finished 2/10. win rate is slowly climbing back to 50% haha

You need to point up the second game not to the left. The 5/8/10 doubles your ows and you rarely win any races against their setup. Got unlucky with the knights for sure.

Ulti is a strong player to beat! He’s well known in the base game and I think he was part of the World Cup group for 1v1. The devs obviously helped but you used them well. The only difference I would have made is taking the 6-3-11 before the sheep port in case they got the settle first because that’s more critical to lock out Ulti of good ore, but given the way it rolled the sheep port worked better anyway :)

Your picks were definitely correct here in 4th. You have the easiest path to road and can hold it long term. Pointing to the 8-4 is probably best too, but my first instinct was to make the wood port active, so I probably would’ve pointed my road there. But otherwise I play this much the same way!

Yo master OK, in the first game I think you can point right after picking the 8-5-10 as you’ve already identified green will likely take the 6-5-9 and 6-9-3, and then with your second settle you take the 9-4-11 and build into the 8-4-3. That would give you the same OWS power you ended up with + almost equal road building as green

I discovered your channel through Phantom and I’m stoked he did it, because I’ve been loving watching your games ❤ keep it up my guy One thing I noticed in that second game - at 22:10, if you had ported your sheep for a wheat, you would have had the 9-10-2 plow the next turn (the 6 rolled which gave you 3 wood to port for the brick and settle). You definitely still had a shot in the endgame and got a bit unlucky with the sequencing, but I think you for sure win this game if you block red’s connect. Good fight regardless though

Top 25 is still really good. Catan is high variance. It's the close games that you could have made a better decision that matter the most.

You could have also taken the first city sooner in the second game. Given you have multiple numbers for each resource and helps you get the second city/devs faster.

You should think about the order in which to take the starting settlements. In the first game, if you take 843 second, you start off with the rare sheep and get an extra wood to match your higher brick production. Anyway didn't make a difference. Well played!

Ur set up in the 2nd game was great (and i also think that 693 is the pick in the 1st place). But I noticed right away a really big mistake that could've cost u the game. After picking 8103 u should've placed ur road towards 643 and not 510 because u have a really bad production on sheep and wood and 643 for ur first settle is solving all of ur problems. And then u go to 9411 for ur 2nd settle. 510 is ur 3rd settle at best because this 5 doesn't give u much early game. Keep up the good work tho! I really liked ur commentary
