Edinburgh Steiner School
United Kingdom
Registrace 12. 11. 2019
An independent school set in three acres of leafy grounds in Edinburgh, educating up to 380 children aged 2 to 18 years.
Based upon the principles of the internationally recognised Steiner Waldorf curriculum, our aim is to develop responsible, free-thinking young people who can contribute to society with initiative and purpose.
From Early Years (age 2) to the final year (Class 12), the subject matter is linked to a child’s developmental stage, which both inspires and motivates the pupils. Teachers teach to the whole child - and each lesson is revealed in a three-fold manner: through the intellectual capacities (thinking), artistic and emotional capacities (feeling), and practical skill-building capacities (willing). All subjects are linked, and each lesson integrates academic work with fine arts and practical arts so that a child is not only intellectually engaged but emotionally and aesthetically invested in their learning.

Oh man ; are we proud of Sam, ( superhero, future bond!). Cat must like this as well. This is her thing . He’s on board with this. Cat continues to go on about fitness and the gym being unimportant. It is a big part of your best friends life, girl. It’s healthy. Mothers need exercise and to be fit to chase little ones and to keep healthy for them. He looks terrific and remains strong and healthy for himself( so what! ) and also for his loved ones❤ 😅
Always so insightful 💖🤩🥰

OMG ! 14-15 hours of filming for Outlander ! It's inhumane ! In other respects, it's very clear that the years spent in school had a major impact on his further education and development both professionally and as an individual...Those years were not SPENT TIME at all, on the contrary , he's been taken them seriously and they were a gain for Sam in all respects... An open mind , a broad range of knowledge combined to make-up today Sam WE ALL LOVE AND APPRECIATE...

Interesting and full of excellent intentions. However, in my experience as an Early Year Practitioner in an understaffed school nursery that caters for 64 children (all in one room! Just take a few seconds to imagine... how noisy and overwhelming it is for children and staff) this looks like fiction. Play-based principles cannot be applied when children in parts of Scotland are crammed all day in unsuitable settings that were initially designed to welcome half the number of children for half the time. The Scottish Government is not putting their money where their mouth is in terms of Early Education. Nurseries had to completely change their practices to facilitate the extended hours without any practical support from the government. Nurseries that used to welcome 30 children in the morning session and 30 children in the afternoon session had to accommodate 60 children all day pretty much overnight. Early Years Practitioners are doing their utter best to try and apply play-based principles but unfortunately free play has turned into free for all and it is impossible to get it right for every child when numbers are so high. Not to mention that the inequality gap is actually widening as children who have the right support at home will always do well in nursery. When children who's home life is chaotic come to nursery to more chaos. We need more nurseries with more outdoor spaces and less children in them so Early Years Practitioners can actually try to do their job. Which is supporting children to learn and develop through play, not to do crowd management.
There are many invisible things at work as the foundations of a Steiner Waldorf Early Years setting. These are, for example: working with rhythm and repetition, so that the children feel held and very secure; relationships that are infused with love, and acknowledgement, observing and listening; an understanding that children really learn and develop though watching, through imitation of others, at this age, rather than by instruction. These invisible things create an Early Years environment where expectations are clearly felt and adhered to, and habits are deeply rooted; where children feel safe and seen, and are free to challenge themselves, imaginatively, physically, and socially. Whilst our four Kindergartens of up to 16 pupils in each are led by longstanding Waldorf trained staff, supported by an experienced assistant, everyone - in Scotland at least - is legally required to work within the ratios, so staffing levels are not the issue. It's about having a particular understanding of the young child and working out of that. Child development is central to our Waldorf Steiner training, both in the Early Years and beyond into school. It teaches to the head (intellect), heart (emotional) and hand (practical) sides of the child. Bless you Sam Heughan ❤🏴 and that's not being religious that's being honest
I am forever grateful to have had the chance to take this course and be a part of this amazing community of educators. This course not only prepared me to be a teacher but it also created the right ambiance for me to unfold, develop and transform as a human being. I recommend it to anyone who wants to know how to support a child's education in a holistic, gentle, artistic way, thus supporting a child on their own unique path towards meaning and individual freedom.
is that his work? that they showed?
they need a John Carter 2!!!! and he's the guy to play it!!
This guy is so good looking, its just not fair.
He seems very humble and not caught up in the Hollywood hype and I pray he stays that way.

I am so pleased to find out that Sam Heughan is a Waldorf school graduate and what he was able to take away from it. Particularly, as I am currently training to become a Waldorf school teacher :-D
That's wonderful Christina. With the Steiner Waldorf School Movement continually expanding internationally, there is a great need for qualified teachers. Edinburgh Steiner School, where Sam went to school, is also a teacher training centre, offering a Professional Diploma in Steiner Waldorf Education (externally credit-rated by The University of Edinburgh at SCQF Level 10): edsteiner.org/ESTEC. Good luck in your journey to becoming an inspiration to the next generations.

Sorry. As much as I adore Sam's work this was far too "talk us up" for me.
"Was he reading from a script?" was actually a comment one of the teachers said after watching the interview. It is genuinely his own reflections.
