Yamaha MT-09 2021 Engine noise
zhlédnutí 20KPřed 3 lety
My engine is getting more noisy when it is cold. Is your 2021 MT-09 also noisy when it is cold?
Removes db-killer from Akrapovic for the 2021 Yamaha MT-09
zhlédnutí 1KPřed 3 lety
We remove the db-killer from the street legal Akrapovic for the 2021 Yamaha MT-09. In part two we will drill in the carbon piece so the rubber plug can be used, then the db-killer will be removable. Then we compare the sound with & with-out the db-killer.
Yamaha MT-09 2021 is a bit slow
zhlédnutí 8KPřed 3 lety
That was really a surprise! Both bikes are standard. The 2021 has bigger engine, more hp and is lighter, but it feels slower, so we made this little test.... 4 gear roll on, same settings on both bikes AND same result when swapping bikes.
Yamaha MT-09 SP 2018

I swapped to the new MT-09 SP 2021. This SP went to my son.
Close call for me & my MT-09
zhlédnutí 119Před 3 lety
Taking a little tour on the country side, where a car and a bulldozer is stopped on the middle of the road to chat a little :-O No, was not speeding, it was 70km/t and slow enough to stop and yell at the car. The other guy slowed down and steered between them. Be careful out there! One never knows what's behind the next corner ;-)

Ive got a 22 xsr900 with the exact same noises and can say that it’s absolutely not the timing chain. I’ve put a manual CCT in mine and the noise does not go away. My non-Yamaha mechanic says it’s actually transmission related and yes he’s well aware of the clutch basket noises (which fyi you can fix). He thinks my particular problem might be a bad bearing in the transmission. I have also been tracking an issue with Yamaha delivering them super lean for regulatory reasons.. they run them lean at idle and up to 3k range for the emissions tests. A good mechanic can get in and adjust the CO (carbon monoxide) settings and raise it to 10-14 which adds more fuel, reducing engine temps and improving low rpm performance. So many problems with this engine that need fixing!!
Thank for all the info I feel better now 😂
It’s a cp3 thing
That sound way much better than MT03 cam chain tensioner thou 😂
my yamaha mt 09 22 year does the same thing
no problem
That yamaha for you normal just ride it
Mine is only 600km and has that loud whine like yours, also the clicking.
It's how Yamaha's engines work. I had the same after 1500 on MT 07 and 09
I bought a brand new MT09SP May 2023. From the first ride it made that noise, took it back next day, they said it was normal and being an unbalanced engine they all do that. I think the extent differs from bike to bike but not heard anyone with the issue say it’s goes on to blow up. It’s a pain as the actual triple engine sounds lovely, people say just enjoy it but does take away from the engine sound when you’re sat right on top of it. Anyway, I’ve learned to live with it, after market pipe helps drown it out somewhat.
You found the problem?
engine no problem
2015 FJ09 same sound was the stock cam chain tensioner. Replaced with a manual CCT and all is good
Just bought brand new 2023 and I’m at 120 miles on odometer and today went to start and ride on my lunch break and heard that exact noise and first thing I thought was did I beat on it to much like I never went passed 5k rpm but after researching found out it’s just normal noise but that sp beautiful
Have a 2016 Tracer with only 5k miles - and the exact same sound.
I have tracer 9 and i have the same sound. I think its just new cp3s thing.
They just sound like that :)
Its the same with my 2021 model
Run a 10w50 Yamalube has 10w50 or you can run the Amsoil 15w50. Either will reduce the ticking from the cam chain tensioner
Did you find the issue with this? As mine has started to do the same?
The latest generation 09 has a completely new camshaft. To reduce fuel consumption, the overlap (when both valves on the intake side and the exhaust side are open at the same time) is reduced by 30%. The cams on the camshaft now have a much steeper design to achieve this, which has resulted in some changes to the drive of the cam chain. A big difference is that the cam chain tensioner is now hydraulic and tightens when the oil pressure increases. This means that the engine at low revs (low oil pressure) feels a little muddier. Cold engine (sluggish oil) makes it hiss even more. The advantage is that the timing chain has good tension at high revs and low friction at low revs. The bottom line is that the new generation has a little more mechanical noise at low revs, but nothing to worry about.
My friend i admire that your comment is the most 100% correct and make me believe what happened. I was checking because mine does similar sound but more deeper not so loudly.and that probably happened after mine oil change cause i put about 3.4 lt
Czech translate please
The Yami tick. It’s given riders anxiety for decades. It’s normal.
2016 xsr900, my tick started at roughly 25,000 miles. It doesn't always do it, but it seems to happen more often if it's a cooler day (I live in South Florida so that's still pretty warm). It ONLY does it for maybe a minute and seems to start when the engine coolant is around 120 degrees Fahrenheit. After about a minute it goes away. Scared the shit out of me the first time as I've had this bike ever since about 2000 miles and it never once did it, or if it did I couldn't hear it. About 50% of the time I have earplugs in and music going so it would be easy to miss. Bike seems perfectly fine otherwise, I guess I'll just keep riding it like it's normal until something happens. Oh I have full Arrow exhaust, but I can clearly hear the tick over the exhaust when it does happen. It's been happening for over 2000 miles now and it seems fine. I run Motul 7100 4t 10w-40 and a Mobile 1 oil filter since about 14,000mi and all seems well otherwise. Oil change interval is 5000mi.
They call that the doo doo click. Its ok son
This one is a CP3 engine.
It’s the valves
check the clutch basket the dang thing has rubber dampeners in it that go bad but the bike has no way to change them without a whole new basket
There is actually. You can get aftermarket dampers which are better quality Hinson Clutch Cushion Kit (CU216). The job requires quite a bit of messing around with grinding and tapping new threads for bolts.. but seen quite a few people complete the job with minimal tools.
My 23 model started to do the same thing afther the first oil change 1000km(at the dealer) now its at 1500km. But if the engine warms up it goes away.
same for me, exact same km... Also I have some sound coming from the clutch basked then in 3rd gear and reducing speed with no throttle. some rattling noise. Will let my dealer check on that one ... as well as qs sometimes (once per ride) won't find next gear and with in Neutral (stuck in between gears) which is rather annoying and has to be checked (dealer confirmed that's not normal).
My Tracer 9gt with 9k KM has the same irritating noice... its not funny anymore and its like i ride a 300year old lawnmower .. i start to dislike YAMAHA so much that i am thinking of selling that piece of crap. I also have vibrations in my footpegs. I use highQ gasoline .. have stock exhaust and clean everything weekly.. i ride everyday .. And i know the dealership gonna do zero about it cause its NORMAL... sorry but that aint normal... my father rides a kawasaki and it runs like an ioled machine... no strange things to be heard..
have the same noise on my FZ-09 2014 with 50 000 miles.
Plz next time TC - OFF Mode - 1
I have exchanged my mt09 for a new mt10 🙂
That's the signature triple whine. My MT-09 sounded the same and my Tiger 900 which is also a triple has the whine. It's the cam chain tensioner.
They all do it it's just the motor
I just bought a brand new mt09sp and 400 miles on it that’s when it started, brought it to the dealer and they said perfectly normal all 2021-2022 models do that. Mine does it on cold start up and sometimes when it’s hot idling after a long ride
I came here looking for answers for the same issue, I noticed the noise coming from mine today its a 21 with 2800klms but I'm glad too see most saying its a normal sound and it's nothing to worry about
The gen3 model use same camshaft tensioner as the R1, so oilpressure has to build up before enough tension makes the clicking goes away.
@@henrikhh hey thanks man, mine ticking sound seems to stay though even when the bikes warms up is this normal also, thanks
@@henrikhh How long does it take the oil pressure to build? My ticking doesn't seem to go for about 15 mins of riding.
@@daddystu7046 It goes away after reving the engine after 15-20 sec.
@@henrikhh Mine doesn't - however cant notice it if you live in the high rev range ;)
Descompressor automático
The day i got my bike 2 weeks ago, i noticed (knocking sound) came from right side of my engine... I guese it got something to do with the clutch system, the sound will disappear when i pull clutch lever, is that normal?
I had a 2018 model before who had a noisy clutch, but the new model is using cam tensioner who works with the oil pressure, so they are a bit clicking when engine is cold.
yamaha synonyms with tensioner issue most of their bike sooner or later will face this kine of problem, even my MT07 started to making noise @ 10k mileage, my new 2021MT09(v3) suspected to have clutch issue and need to send back to factory for futher action.
after looking at the new one I don't like the 18 model lol especially when it's a much better bike now too
Hi can you fixed problem?
Thanks for posting this. The comments are very helpful!
cam chain is loose
Why take the time too point atfour screws then not even put the camera on the two screws on the side
I drove to the limit and stopped being a bit slow .. ;)
I drove to the limit and stopped being a bit slow .. ;)
For me the Yamaha Mt 09 2018 so is the best in shape compared to 2021
😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
2018
engine SOUND not noise...
Why dose yamaha make the mt09 look such a mess compared to the 7 or 10.
It might not be pretty but I think it looks pretty aggressive and I like that. Function and performance over aesthetics for me... but each to their own.
2018
My MT09 have the same noise 1:15 I will contact yamaha to question them about this strange dirty noise. I live in france, i think we have not the same antipolution standard.
