I love these videos thank you for making them
For those of us who are interested in the house and history this didn’t hit the mark. Nothing against the acting or production. If wanting an opportunity to profile the creative team’s work not related to the house that could be another channel. I’d much rather have someone talk us thru the kitchens as they are at the moment and how they’re used. And how things will change with the tea rooms and commercial kitchen.
Sorry that was a waste of my time!
Perfect.
You're confusing Disciple with Apostle!!!!!!!!
I'd love to be able to take a look at the green dining room in person someday, once the conservation work is complete - the arsenic greens, though deadly, really are beautiful, and Scheele's Green (which the shade in that room at least bears a close resemblance to) is my favourite of them. To see it in reality rather than just in pictures would be amazing!
This is amazing. I would have loved to be there (as a visitor) and maybe snuck into the servants quarters and wing and take pictures😅
The guy in the lemon suit looked amazing, would have loved to hear him singing. Also was some of it filmed in the Rockingham arms, seems to look familiar. Thanks Wentworth Wood House.
The young man with the excellent style was TeeDeeVee, the artist our filmmakers were paired with by the South Yorkshire Filmmakers Network for the competition. You can listen to his music here: www.youtube.com/@teedeevee_ The bar scene wasn't shot at the Rockingham arms but was actually a set we have hidden here at Wentworth Woodhouse, which was most recently used for the Netflix series Bodies. We'll share the music video they created with you soon!
The aspect of this house that most fascinates me is the fact that WW is actually houses. I am very curious about the transition. There is a floor plan in this video that gave us a tiny nibble of that space between the two houses. We can see on the floor plan areas labelled the Chapel, Stone and Basin courts. I would really like to see a video that highlights and explains in greater detail these transition spaces between between the two structures. It would be nice to see the transition spaces in the interior as well. Thanks for your consideration.
Keep up the great work, we can't afford to lose these wonderful buildings. 👏
Fabulous! Huge amount of work but will be worth every penny when it's finished & I can't wait to see the difference. 🙏
This is so interesting to me because I m actually a descendant of Thomas Wentworth!!
How old is the staircase?
Thanks Adam and Wentworth Wood House for the update.
Thank you from California, Digital Team!!!!
Our pleasure!
The worst part is having to listen to the parrot laugh at you as you clean up the mess 😜
Our family was so thrilled to discover that my husbands family are Wentworths and goes back here to his 15th great grandfather!
Love it as it brings Wentworth to life hearing about the women of the house & how they passed their time
One of my favourite places too because it's the original part of Thomas Wentworth's house. Very old, cold and a bit spooky. I imagine Black Tom walking up and down those stairs by candlelight on dark winter days. I wonder we might bump into him one day. 👻
Hopefully we don't or the stairs will fully earn it's name! It would be a great experience though!
Thanks Ryan for your insight. Thanks Wentworth Woodhouse.
Thank you for watching, glad you enjoyed it!
I fell down those stairs on my first shift volunteering for the Christmas display. Unhurt but very embarrassed and no I didn’t feel a spooky push!
I remember that. It's not the first time it's happened 😮
Funny you should say that! I almost fell on those stairs and it was as if I was touched on the back of my knee to try to unbalance me beforehand. The lady next to me wasn't so lucky and did fall but luckily it was the last step onto one of the landings so she didn't get hurt. It might have been a coincidence but I don't understand why both of us would have that happen to them at the same time on the same step!
My husband has fallen off those stairs too. Others have and it's always the very last step.
Are there any photos of how the oak staircase was decorated when the Fitzwillam family lived in the house?
❤ Thrilled that WW is being worked on and saved. Worried about how things are being desensitized and overly modernized. Why is the parking lot so ugly and poorly laid out? It makes WW look like an amusement park. There's a very big difference between creating a public spectacle and a properly restored situation to be experienced by the public. All of the focus seems to point to the former happening, which means that WW is immediately losing its value. We've seen the same thing in Victoria BC where a number of beautiful spaces became "attractive" to tourists... then became "attractions"... then became dated and no longer attractive after a decade. One hundred years or more of beauty, a LOT of money on "upgrades" to modernize, ten years of "use" and then no longer being "useful" so lost to development. If there are policies in place to make certain that restoration of roofing materials and structural methods are sensitive to how the building was built, the same should be taken into consideration for the entire project.
Many thanks for your comments and we hope that we're actively avoiding the outcomes you describe. Across the whole of the site at Wentworth Woodhouse, we're totally committed to the restoration and conservation of the historical fabric of what we acquired back in 2017. Most of the buildings are Grade 1 or Grade 2* listed and we take our responsibilities as custodians of these precious assets very seriously. As we work through what will probably be a twenty-year programme of regeneration, we have a single core aim. We have to secure a sustainable future for the site. This means that the buildings we have and the small piece of land on which they sit, have to be able to generate the revenues needed to pay the costs of upkeep and staffing. Wentworth Woodhouse wasn't sold with a large estate providing income from rents or other commercial activities. We have the buildings and 83 acres of gardens. One of the first things that we did, was to assess the capacity for changes of use within the structures, some of which, like the Stables, had lost almost all of their original interiors during the 20th Century. Thankfully, the roofs and walls of the Stables were largely unaltered and the restoration of this original fabric is a priority, to prevent further decay. Reimagining how these spaces can be used to generate the income that we need is another key challenge, but the focus is on the vision, of creating a sustainable future for Wentworth Woodhouse itself, which in turn, will help it to provide a catalyst for positive change across the whole of South Yorkshire. The new car park is as yet unfinished. Part of it is currently being used as site office space for the works at the Stables and none of the landscaping has been done as the access route into the car park is also being used for site vehicles. The car park will fit into its setting much better once these final works have been completed.
@@OfficialWentworthWoodhouse It's good to hear that this is the utilitarian version of the car park. I absolutely agree that the buildings need to be utilized in regard to maintaining an income for the property and not necessarily be kept in the exact original image. As long as the modern additions, such as the parking, are designed sensitively then that makes a huge difference.
Why do you constantly go so fast? Please slow down take some time so we can get a look at what is on the video.
Thanks for the feedback - we'll take it on board. There is a longer format video in production that will take a slower look around the spaces that we're showing in the Off Limits series.
@@OfficialWentworthWoodhouse thanks 😊
The size of this building is amazing. When you look at the designs on the outside, you could just imagine how it looked in its heyday. I believe this is the second house, looking out towards the gardens?
You're not wrong... the place is vast! This video shows rooms in the Baroque House, which was built before the more well known Palladian East Front. It dates from around 1735. The East Front was largely completed as we see it today, around 1760. The Baroque House replaced an earlier House which stood on the site and dated from the 1630's.
@@OfficialWentworthWoodhouse I have been in the first house with the tour. Did they decide to build the second house because the first was too small? I think the main reason they built the third house was because it Western Baroque was out of style by the time it was finished, so they built the front with East Palladian?
So interesting to hear about the lesser known part of the house. Any stories to tell about the very first house? Thanks Wentworth Wood House.
@@OfficialWentworthWoodhouse when the Fitzwillam family lived there would these rooms have been for the family, servants, or for guests?
What a beautiful amazing house, what a shame it was stripped of all its treasures and neglected for years.

People in service had a better time than the majority of the working class. Regular paid work as well as room and board. With most of your daily needs covered you don't need to make a lot of money to live comfortably.

This may be a stupid question, but does lead roofing affect the soil below? When it rains, does the runoff have toxic properties? Maybe that's a video topic!
Beautiful work! So excited to see what this becomes
Thank you, we can't wait for you to see the outcome of all the hard work!
Great young folks are being trained in a craft which will benefit them in the future.
One of our key factors at Wentworth Woodhouse is engaging with young people through training in all areas to working within the community on projects, so it's stories like these we love being apart of so we can really benefit the future of young people, especially in the heritage sector!
Well done and thank you to everyone involved with Wentworth Woodhouse's regeneration, no matter how small your contribution. Thank you ♥️

Probably only one off the videos I'm not on 😂😂
What is this part of the house, and where was it located? Also, can you see any of these off limits places with the Hidden Tour? Thanks.
These rooms are at the very top of the building not far from the Bedlam wing. You can see some of the rooms in Bedlam on the current Black Diamonds tour, but please book soon as this tour will be coming to an end in December 2024.

Slow down you go to fast and you never give any information on where these rooms are located in the house and what they were used for.
We've put a note in the description about how the rooms were used. They are right at the top of the House with windows that look out over the Chapel and towards the gardens.

It's likely that the rooms were used as bedroom accommodation for guests or servants.
