550-650K is honestly the very exact lowest you can buy a normal single family house in san diego and than there is that 300K dollar type down payment which still includes a monthly mortgage that's around 3k per month and than there is utilities taxes and insurance to pay I love the city and people of san diego with all my heart but at this point it's just not worth it man I'd be totally cool with paying a mortgage of over 4K a month as long as my down payment price doesn't buy me a nice house here in Oregon I never been a fan of manufactured homes but when you can save half a million dollars by living in one in san diego especially if its in a good location making it even safer than it may be the way to go honestly I'd do anything for the home owner life in san diego even put 80% of my income into my house just so I can live in My favorite city my friend who lives there lives in a 2m house his parents got for under 500k 20 years ago I would not get a house in san diego for investment purposes just so I can live the respected homeowner life in my favorite city I love those 1920s stone castle style homes in san diego but it will never feel right for 900 sq homes being 950K especially when it's not even close to the ocean the only way I could live in san diego honestly is if my dad agreed to move back there and sell his house here in Oregon being a solo home owner would be a huge challenge there

Relatively recent transplant here, 2019. I agree with the things Dan pointed out in this video. The other thing I would mention is the water. I can't bring myself to drink water from the tap. I go to a water store to get purified water. There's delivery too, if preferred.

San Diego, by it's geographical position, must be an enclave and conservative. This is why it doesn't have the problems of the LA areas. What I find distinctive in San Diego are the older neighborhoods. People have stayed on and kept up. In most big cities, old neighborhoods are artifacts of demographic shift: a flight of one group and an influx of another, and often for the worse.

Here is what you really need to consider before moving to San Diego
.. #1 the cost of living over everything else. San Diego is ranked number one the most expensive city in the nation to live in. So throw out all of that nonsense about the weather traffic homelessneeding wetsuits nonsense. If you’re coming here from anywhere besides Hawaii, the last thing you’re gonna need to worry about is a damn wetsuit #2 there is no #2 The only thing you need to worry about if you are moving here is going to be the cost of living. Our gas prices are the highest you will notice that immediately. Rent prices In San Diego are 65% higher than the nation average I have lived in San Diego all of my life. I have traveled all over the country from Portland, Oregon to Portland Maine. San Diego is the best city in the country. The only reason people leave San Diego to move out of state is because of the cost of living.

I think I would love to buy either a 2bed/2bath high rise condo with an ocean view or a 2-3 bed town home in a nice neighborhood/suburb with decent walkability and good proximity to the beach. What kind of income level for a couple would be needed to have that.

I am leaving California I’m moving to Texas. The amount of inflation in the state of California is insane. Everything’s going up gas food insurance registration fees!! Just fees and fees now electricity bills going up and they’re finding new ways just to charge us more money! Also corporate taking an advantage of all this in California 10 x 20 storage cost you about $600. If you get anything bigger might cost you $1000 with drive up access in Los Angeles.! Rent for one bedroom apartment is at $1800 in the ghetto! If you want a two bedroom will cost you 2500$ three bedrooms 3000$ in the ghetto! Laws are just ridiculous. School system are a joke. Every side hustle is taken by migrants.! No opportunities very small shop/store will cost you about 2500$ 3000$ for something size of a room with double deposit three year lease term or more in horrible shopping center! Traffic is horrible insurance is so expensive you’re looking at 350$ for just one car minimum! everyone is price gouging thrift stores Goodwill’s swapmeet vendors! if it goes for 100$ brand new at the store and you’re looking to buy a secondhand through the marketplace or locally you’re looking to pay maybe $80 if not 100 and people will not go down đŸ€Šâ€â™‚ïž which makes no sense! Hopefully I get to leave by December 🙏 cuz I can’t take it no more this place is eating my bank account

@@gophukyurselvs3621 the high cost of living is definitely an important thing to know about living here for sure! already did a couple other videos on that topic and feel like it's a pretty well known fact. in this video I wanted to capture a couple of other things about san diego people outside of san diego may not be aware of and give some local tips!

@@SanDiegoNeighborhoods if you’re going to make a list of pros and cons of relocating to San Diego. The cost of living is most definitely number #1. You could’ve touched on the subject and other videos, but you should’ve reiterated here. Do you think with the 65% higher average rent prices here in San Diego. Someone’s going to have an extra $300 to $400 for a wetsuit? I honestly feel if someone’s watching this video with serious thoughts of relocating here. None of those things you listed would be things to worry really about. Cost-of-living Average price to buy a home is hovering around $900,000. Average monthly rent is $2980. Only Hawaii comes close to us when it comes to cost of gas, which is crazy considering there in Island with zero oil Wells. If you’re looking to move here, make a list of all the things that you currently pay for and add a minimum 10% to all of those cost. That’s the harsh reality. If you can afford to live here, great then you can worry about what little rain we get in May and June. Think about getting a wetsuit for the beach and all the homeless people you have to walk over to get there lol 😂

If you’re a millionaire you’ll fit right in. Otherwise it’s 4,000.00 a month for a decent apartment. Looking to leave here. Too crowded, NO PARKING, crazy greedy landlords. Beautiful yes, pricing us locals out.

    Umm
.its getting stupid ridiculous for rents here. If you have 800,000 dollars to put down on a two bedroom house and like a basic looking house then yes. Come enjoy. It’s getting out of control.

You'll find that they are not really around the desirable buildings and shopping areas and restaurants. Maybe here and there. But the majority are on off streets.

From a native Texan standpoint the biases on your end definitely shows And you sold Texas a bit short in more ways then one In fact if I hadn’t known any better I would’ve questioned rather or not your visits to Tx were in the backwoods rather then the cities themselves bcuz this dust storm tht your talking abt Texas gets I’ve never heard of tht in my 36 years of living But wht I have heard of and also wht you failed to mention is tht California is proned to hurricanes &&tornados as well,In addition to droughts, volcanoes && landslides tht you all frequently get And specking of which! Did y’all evr fully recover from tht earthquake back in 2022 or wht abt tht major flooding tht occurred last year tht caused rivers to overflow mudslides and alot of people to lose their lives just curious? And those beaches in California is laughable compared to other places in the U.S. like Hawaii,Florida hell even certain parts of Alabama have way better beaches then wht you’ll find in California,I’m srry love but the jig is up Cuz cali is no longer the beautiful state we’ve all come to appreciate and love Now it’s only a shadow of wht it used to be I know tht you Californians want to keep a hold of tht title but the once undefeated && undisputed has now become both defeated && called into dispute,by none other then the great state itself “TEXAS” wht would this nation be w/o it, If millions of fleeing California refugees didn’t have anywhere to run!I mean from all the homeless tents && folks to the drug addicts and heroin needles found all throughout the state I had one couple tell me tht even the beaches there not tht enjoyable anymore from all the needles laying all in the sand and the addicts shooting up in broad daylight not to mention wht abt the homeless people urinating && đŸ’©đŸšœEverywhere See tht would never fly here in tx But wht has flew and landed here in the great “FLAT”state as you called it was alot of Fortune 500 companies coming in from Cali even Elon musk said it was like a tug-of-war trying to get in and out of the office do to all the homeless && drug addicts camped outside begging and harassing him But you were right abt one thing we definitely have tht state pride tht your not going to find anywhere else and especially in California gangs vs gangs Mexicans vs blacks i mean the constant warfare it’s like y’all are living in a video game (GTA) or something And the 🍒 on top strict gun laws basically you can’t defend yourself in California And thts wht did it for me Cali’s the past And Texas the future And w/ the way things are going I’ll be surprised if people even still remember the name California by 2030 the same year Houston is expected to surpass Chicago as the third in the nation though I think it will happen alot sooner then expected!!!

Thanks for this great video! I've been in my home in SoCal almost 30 years. Retiring in 3 years. I have a good lifestyle, able to go swim in the Bay almost everyday as it's a 10min beautiful walk from my place. Some friends have been talking to me about moving to Jacksonville. They say I could save tons in taxes. However, I hate A/Cs I don't have one in my home as I get a nice breeze...but what I hate the most are bugs. I see a flying đŸȘł and I'm ⚰. Maybe the answer is to downsize and stay in the same area. Hopefully!
