Deano's Garage
United Kingdom
Registrace 28. 01. 2016
In a basic Garage here in Hampshire, England in my spare time, I strip down, service, save from the wreckers or breakers, various motorbikes and have been doing so for about 6 years now. I demonstrate, how I go about certain tasks on certain motorcycles, and try to show all, that with some basic knowledge, use of manuals or info from Forums, search engines or CZcams, you too can have the confidence to tackle almost anything, do almost anything to bring that dream motorbike back from the grave. All for very little cost, and all from the warmth or cold, of the good old Garage !

The toolset is available at my local parts store. In New Zealand the store is called Supercheap. Same set you got. So, a little trip in the morning.
I have had my 2008 estima hybrid for a year now. I have a Kenwood radio with screen and hope to get it in easy enough. Thanks for the tutorial. Now need those plastic things
That square button that says LOCK next to the gearstick, releases the gear stick you can move it out of the way. No need to start the engine.
Good to see you back!
Just a heads up but i think you have the light upside down. The high beam should be on the bottom. Might not make a difference in projection if so then it doesn't matter.
Very informative, doing this job tomorrow.
Is there a second video to this
What are the parts for the clutch plates/friction plates and the clutch gasket.
Serious question - I have one of these I have built myself - nothing like as good a job as this one! I am still learning. My question is how does it handle? I am finding mine has a quite a twitchy front end - really notice any grooves in the road/white lines, etc? I have the same rear shock and standard forks with slightly heavier fork oil.
I found my 16v and now this 8 v handle surprisingly well. Obviously shedding all that weight, and having the alloy tank etc help immensely. I weigh 80kg, so never bothered to change the fork oil and kept it soft on the front. It soakes up the bumps nicely, not at all harsh initially my rear shock had too much preloaded, so backed off the spring. Now both front and rear are very nice. I don't want a sports bike here, I want a cruising, easy going ride, that handles well enough to be fun if I need it to be. Even my brakes are better than I thought they would be. I would say, if your front end is too harsh, drop the oil and come down on the weight, I.e if you have 10w try 7.5w, and be very mindful of the level ( air gap needed) Best of luck. Deano.
When I cut those bits off my K100 tank the seam did leak and I had to use liquid metal to seal it.
I have donevthis twice now, on K100 RS 16v and this 8v you need to get close with a dremmel type cutter but not to close. The key is to tidy it up, they did not take care with welding seams so I added filler in between weld bobbles rather than risk damaging the tank.
Look great. I am nearly there with a K1100LT conversion, with a candy red tank. I love the K100 Y wheels as the 1100 has the 3 spokes (which I'm not keen on) but has a wider back tyre so I kept them and had them power coated in black gold. I ditched the ABS and brakes are great now. Love your rear shock. I too ditched the airbox in favour of light weight intakes. I have both key and finger print ignition which is working great. I got some good ideas from you so many thanks. Hope you have lots of fun on this bike.
Did similar things with my very 1st project. The K100 RS 16v ( see other videos) as you say, not attractive wheels but more tyre choices. Look forward to you sharing the link to video of your 1100 when complete. Good Luck, enjoy the getting there, take your time, I know I did, too much !
Turned out good😊
Thanks, the seat that I made for the single unit, needs some work though, but generally very happy with how it turned out.
What a glorious sound.
Absolutely, it was very very loud this close !
Could not agree more , means you can still find at a relative bargin price though.
One of the most underrated bikes of all time
Oh my god , what are you doing whit that indicator
I know it is hard to comprehend but I think most will agree, it was quite obvious really. Taking old clear off putting new original back on. Surprised it was not obvious to you.
Hi Deano, I got a 2020 crossrunner last year & changed the stock screen for the givi touring screen, it makes a big difference compared to the stock screen, but I have ran into a problem with the 5mm rubber well nuts which hold the screen onto the mounting plates, two out of the four well nuts have started to perish & the screen was rattling, so it looks like the added weight on the givi screen over the stock screen is a problem.
I can't wiggle my switch out, it's like it's stuck in there, any advice?
Otro autodidacta que monta la tapa del filtro centrifugo en forma de estrella al revés!!! 😮😮😮
Hello Deano, I bought this seat unit from Cafe4racer, they are an EU based business so for me in U.K the import tax was not great, but a very good site (be careful I was like a kid in s candy store there) for all the bling and more. Just enter your type of BMW, then select what you want to get overly tempted by, in your case seats. I have finished my project now, although I have drive issues, clutch I believe. Once sorted I will be back to CZcams to add some nice photos and video. Thanks, other Deano
Hi Deano 👍 Another Deano here 🙂 Can I ask where you got the seat unit as that's exactly what I'm looking for, I e been looking at so many an none of them float my boat what's so ever. My opinion on the other seat options are the same as your it seems. Great minds think alike 👍😁 Many thanks 👍 Deano
I use the vac guages..and dont need to take the carbs off...
The Honda service manual for this model and the Honda common service manual are both available online, between them you can see how to sync the carbs...
Hi Dean, have just bought a similar VFR also 31 years old with 63000 miles on the clock, also with 5 previous owners., love to compare what I find when the owner delivers it to me in Llandudno! Like you have bought it as a project at 72 years last was a Kawa Zx12r, What miles has yours done, please Robert😊
Hello Robert, Sorry mate, haven't had the VFR for well over a year now, and can't remember the miles. Good luck with your project mate. Hope all goes/ is well.
Do not do this!!!! It's a 2 min job
Hello Can you let everyone know how, please, without cutting. Thanks, Dean
You dont need to remove the carbs off the bike....to balance the carbs...
Couldn't agree with you more, in fact, it is impossible to balance the carbs with a vacuum gauge if they are not on the bike, it has to be running.
Did the balancing sort out the dead cylinder?
Cleaned contacts outside and inside as well. Works a couple times and quits again. Could something else be involved? Thank you.
Hello You could try looping ( connecting a wire from one wire to the other) eliminating the switch, to see if brake light comes on all the time, which it should. Then you know for sure it is the switch and contacts in it, or wires to it. A switch should be very inexpensive. Good luck.
@@DeanAllen cracked it open and cleaned inside contacts as well. Working now. Thank you.
Nice vid, what is the name/where can I find this service manual?
Thanks, it was a run of the mill, Haynes manual for the FZs 1000.
@@DeanAllen thanks
I was thinking of doing this to a damaged Honda TLR panel because you can't buy new ones that I was good as the old ones but there's a very very difficult looking corner on one of those panels don't know if it would work
Not a Suzuki TLR, with the two scoops in the side fairing panels ? They would be tricky, but heat and practice will prevail in the end. It took me a lot of practice, but you aquire the skills as you keep trying. Good Luck, go for it !
It looks a lot easier on the Honda panel, other than the hole, give it some practice, it is very little cost. Just make sure every thing under is ultra smooth, as if you were preping for paint.
Hello how are you. A question. How did you get the RPM to remain stable? I hope you can help me because CBR f3 I can't remove these variations
Just to clarify why the value on the shims should be facing down, is so it wont be worn off be the cams :) Thanks for the great video :)
I guess so, good point though. I think it would possibly wear off. Doesn't really matter if you have a micrometer to check, but easier to be able to see. Thanks, Dean
can you put clip ons instead of that superbike handlebar? will they fit or will they hit the fairings/fuel tank !?
Sorry mate, no idea this bike is long gone, replaced by many others since.
I loved these bikes :) I had the luck to ride a 750R in 2011.... and also owned a 600R 4jh from 2012 until 2023...(smaller brother of this 750R YZF)
Beautiful retro looking machines, with the Fox eye head lights. Yes the 600R was literally a smaller engined version sharing some parts as the 750R. Wish I had the money and space to own more bikes.
Sounds like someone dialed back the idle speed to make it sound more like a Harley...bad idea for these bikes, they starve the top end for oil when it idles slow
hi, thank you for the YZF 750 video, I have a 93 grey and purple and i need the front fairing.. any idea where i can buy one used or new ? Thank you Manuel
I would like to ask Where did you get The Seat unit i like it Very much.
Very good question, that was a long time ago. As you can see, I bought it 18 months ago, when I first got the bike. I will have to check the paperwork. Definitely came from a European supplier. I will update you later. Good news, I started mine for the first time in 18 months, today, great to hear it through my new exhaust.
Yes, Cafe4racer.eu
Thx 😊
hi, Whats the wind guard your using on the front above the new light ?
Sorry, that was on the bike when I bought it, no idea of make or who from.
no worries , appreciate the reply! @@DeanAllen
The spinner cover was reinstalled the wrong way round, this will have a impact on how it seals on the gasket
Does your new units fit the Toyota orginal reverse camera? I try to get one, but modt of seller says it is not supported original
When I had installed it, I never did get the time to find a way to connect the camera up to the new head unit.
Doesn’t it take the paint off the wheel’s?
No, when added to a cloth, then as shown, you wipe the painted wheel, it lifts the chain dirt and oil right off.
Works wonders
make sure that O ring is also greased for the feed pipe before you put the clutch cover back on as forcing an ungreased o ring into place can cause it to rip with friction and fail
Whats these helmet with 66 number?
6 piston calipers were superb is that why so many guy like myself go out and buy a set of blue or gold dots and do the swap due to the rotors warp on the yzf750 bikes and if you're asking why when you have 6 piston calipers you would go to 4 piston well it seem to solve the problem of rotors warping and why did Yamaha go back to 4 pistons when the r1 has around 150 hp and the yzf 750 has 120 hp with 6 piston the 4 piston must work just as good I like the gold there lighter due to ceramic pistons you also need the break master cylinder from an r1 or r6 to match the 4 piston calipers you also need rotors from a Ducati 916 or other bikes that use those rotors due to the little round things on the rotors hit the brake pads if you keep the 750 rotors now you can just shave a little off the ends of the pads of the blue or gold dots and they'll miss
Awesome.
I was told that you need to upgrade the master cyclinder?????
Hello Bobby, Unsure about ABS, you would definitely need to consult with others through Forums etc, and see if anyone else has, either successful results.
Do these work on an ABS model ???? My bike is 1992 ABS and i want to change to the upgrade.
I have the 2017 model with adjustable screen. Doesn’t do me any good anyway. I’m only 175 cm high, but the wind make quite some noise still. If I bend over slightly it is all quiet. 🤔🇩🇰
I'm in the States. What kind of polish is that?
Autosol metal polish. Been using it for decades here. Kind of a toothpaste consistency.
