2024 SCCA June Sprints at Road America - Formula Atlantic, Swift 008.a: 21st to 8th!
Here is my perspective of the 2024 SCCA June Sprints in Formula Atlantic in my new-to-me Swift 008.a. I didn't qualify in this car, so I had to start from the back after fighting a gearbox issue all week. This was my second ever race in this car and first with the new ECU and Toyota engine package that I'm developing. I was still only shifting around 9400 RPM, so there is a ways to go yet. I was able to work through the field in a shortened 10-lap race from P21 to P8. Thank you to everyone who made this whole project come together after almost two years:

Swift 008.a Shakedown Lap at Autobahn Country Club Full Track

This is one of my laps from a recent shakedown of a somewhat new-to-me Swift 008.a Formula Atlantic at Autobahn Country Club's Full Track. We are developing a new ECU package for these aging Formula Atlantic cars to bring them up to modern standards, so this is a test of a new Toyota engine and new ECU package.
2024 Gridlife Rush SR Feature Race 2 at CMP - P20 to P4!

This is the second feature race from the first official weekend of the Gridlife Rush SR national championship. I started P20 due to a mechanical DNF in the qualifying race. I made it up to P4 by the end of the race, so enjoy my run through the field. Thanks to Diversion Motorsports, LLC for the amazing car prep and the entire Rush Auto Works team for putting on such a great event!

Best lap was a 2:11.199 on the second to last lap, I kept picking up time every lap except the last when I came up on traffic in the Kink and lifted partially off the throttle, compromising my exit and the run down to Canada Corner. I finished second in the 9F3 class and fourth overall. Thanks to Palm Rat Golf and Approyo for helping to make this weekend possible!

Saw myself just after the 9 minute mark. Appreciate you guys behaving going past the incident... Not all classes do.
Great drive in a new situation. Man those Formula Continentals are quick in a straight line. Also, so much time flat out, wonderful track.

SO frustrating to watch a clearly superior driver get pulled in the straights due to the SCCA's class structure. PFMs are such great all-around single seaters, but they just don't have the straightline speed of FAs (but fortunately not the 5-digit engine rebuild pricetags either, lol). Thanks for posting this...enjoyed (and envied) every lap, even with the fuel issue at the end!

14:15 I was wondering if you were going to do that. Those cars you were battling with are Swifts aren't they. Fast FAs none the less.
Why are they so much faster on straights?
The pro star Mazda has the RX8 Renesis engine that is fuel injected. Unlike the weber carb'ed 13B in the tube frame club Mazda, that I drove.

@@manuelortiz7731 Vintage races are a much more varied entrant list. Its not unusual to see Indy/CART cars, F1 cars, F2, Formula Atlantic and even F3000 cars on the same grid.

Great driving dude. Fyi there was 1 turn where I think it's like turn 5, it's tricky. It looks like the reason the guy kept pulling away is because he would brake early and cut wide on the first half of the turn, and then cut in and add power causing him to shoot out like that. You did the opposite and that's why he always pulled away. I'm talking about at 12:55
Mixed classes are really frustrating, especially when the higher top speed cars "park" in the corners. Really nice drive! Miss driving my first gen FM :)
Why do they have mixed classes if the faster cars aren't really faster?

Great driving Rob! I’m sure you felt frustrated with those guys slower in the corners, but more hp to get by you again. Glad FB had you in Reels after I watched a different race. We can tell you are super comfortable in that car
