I prefer growing dewberries since they are a native species of black black berries to my region and have thorns that protect them and if something does eat through the stems I can always put the broken off end into the soil to start a second vine 😂

Those fruit are far from ripe. They are about softball size when fully grown. This happens in September and October in Southern California.

Top tip I have for all you homesteaders out there. It’s often illegal to put razor or barbed wire on a fence or partition hedge to stop people climbing up and over it. However, it is not illegal to grow a spiky plant like a bramble bush over a fence. Trust me when I say that kids aren’t gonna be climbing over that fence or hedge. I learned this the hard way as a child. Nettle plants are great people deterrents too and they make wonderful tea. Nature is your friend if you treat it properly. I found a ladybird (ladybug for you colonials) and put it on my chilli plant that was infested with tiny white flies. That ladybird ate or at least murdered all of them in about two days! My chilli plant lived and I had some great fruit with zero pesticides. Thank you nature. And as all good things come in threes~ I’d plant onions near my strawberries if I were you as it keeps away pests and onions don’t take away from strawberries as the root systems that they use works at different depths. I like the smell of fresh onion and garlic growing in my garden though.

I tried for 2 years to force myself to get into gardening. It ain't for me. All it does is make me angry

To be fair I go to a small feed store personally owned and you can get your stuff powdery it’s called crumbles they make certain textures depending on what you want 😂

We throw them down into the soil to help feed the earthworms and in turn the soil.

I always get my garden set up in the fall right when everything is dead and I pull everything out. That's when I build new beds and put mulch down

It's been proven that the yield is much less when growing tomatoes upside down. The stems evolved in nature to grow up . They work through a capillary system that doesn't work so well upside down
