We're in Buderim, Qld. Australia. Our channel's about the food we grow, catch & produce for ourselves, my beekeeping, fishing, cooking, bread baking & some native wildlife visitors in our own backyard.
Beekeeping: A Feeder / Donor Hive.
I'm showing the advantages of owning a feeder hive. Taking a frame of brood from a large colony of bees can be quite daunting. It's so much easier to remove a frame of bees from a dedicated feeder hive. A feeder hive is also useful for beginner beekeepers to become familiar with finding the queen & learning how to read the brood.

Processing Passionfruit for the Freezer & Making a Passionfruit Drink.
zhlédnutí 319KPřed 7 lety
We were given a beautiful bin of passionfruit seconds, 55 liters all up. We pulped them, strained out the juice, froze the juice & made a beautiful passionfruit w ginger drink using the flesh from around the seeds.
Beekeeping: Finally a Honey Flow.

It's been around 9 months since we got some decent honey. It's great to be able to show off some beautiful frames of honey.
Beekeeping: How To Kill Less Bees When Replacing Boxes.
zhlédnutí 6KPřed 7 lety
I'm demonstrating how to kill less bees while replacing frames, boxes & lids. We also do a split as well as we show how I close a hive up, ready to move a short distance.
Beekeeping: Lighting a Bee Smoker Plus a Few Tips.

I'm using wood shavings as fuel. I'm using old masking tape or petroleum jelly as a fire starter.
Juicing My Home-Grown Sugar Cane By Hand.
zhlédnutí 163KPřed 7 lety
We bought a squid press/ sugar cane press to try first. It took 2 hours to get the juice out of one stalk. We decided it was sold as a sugar cane press under false pretenses. We requested a refund & we offered to send it back. They gave us US$65 of the the original US$105 back as a refund if we kept the press, which we accepted. We bought another hand press which did the job beautifully, howeve...

Jeff's Strawberry Runner Strategy.
zhlédnutí 9KPřed 7 lety
My strategy for growing Strawberry runners. I mark the plants with the sweetest strawberries, then pull the other plant out. Once I have enough runners established in the gap, I start cutting any new runners off.
Beekeeping: Bees Washboarding & Fanning During Hot Weather.
zhlédnutí 3,8KPřed 7 lety
The bees in my observation hive are flat out wash boarding & fanning during hot weather. They're doing a lot wash boarding inside the hive as well as the outside. You can see how beautifully the bees position themselves so as to direct the air where the hive as a whole wants it to go.
Beekeeping: Flow Hive Inspection - Sharon & Ian at Eumundi, Australia.
zhlédnutí 8KPřed 7 lety
Sharon & Ian asked me to check on their flow hive 8 months after picking the bees up in Feb. '16. They are thrilled with how their flow hive is progressing. It was mid-spring, so we did a pre-emptive swarm control strategy.
Beekeeping: Unpainted Galvanized Lid vs Painted Galvanized Lid.
zhlédnutí 2,4KPřed 7 lety
It's in the middle of Spring now. It's an 80degF. day The unpainted galvanized lid measured 120degF. The painted lid measured 100degF. A 20 degree difference. I'm recommending that beekeepers paint their galvanized lids white.
Beekeeping: Strengthening a Weak Hive's Population.
zhlédnutí 15KPřed 7 lety
This is how I strengthen the population of a weak colony of bees. Only do this during good weather. Using the newspaper method combined with a cardboard wear plate & taking 4 frames of bees from 4 different hives.
Beekeeping: Free Wood For Lids, Floors & Box Repairs.
zhlédnutí 2,5KPřed 7 lety
I'm constantly on the lookout for free wood I can use to make beehive lids, bottom boards & box repairs. Any pine timber can be treated with copper naphthenate to prevent dry rot.
Beekeeping: Garden of Eden Bee Rescue.
zhlédnutí 7KPřed 7 lety
The bees moved into an upside down flower pot at Eden's garden in Nambour on the Sunshine Coast. We moved the colony into a bee box. We found a beautiful looking queen. The colony was down in numbers so I added a couple of frames of brood to it.

Straight grained paperbark. Come on Jeff, try some twisted knotty blackwood mate 😂😂😂
32 liters how long does it take to become salt?
This video is a ripper , this recipe is still going into peoples kitchens like mine and other viewers , I got given a number of chokes so I’m going to make this , it looks awesome , I do love a good chutney .
i,ve been growing veggies here for 25 years , Speaks for itself
I have this tool and i had no idea what it was for! Thanks so much!
It's like they're in bed and you're putting the blanket on them :')
Thank you so much for making this video. I have them and not sure what to do with it😅
Champion, thankyou!
Thank you for the idea about the seeds. I’m going to try your method to get extra juice with ginger especially I like ginger drink. ❤
The skin is extremely good for its health benefits!
Thank you
Thank you for the recipe Jeff, it is delicious!
That bird looks like of someone had to draw a crow from memory under extreme time pressure.
Going to try this here in Arizona🌵Thank you! 🦘
I’m still finding your videos so helpful! I hope you are both well. We have a very abundant paw paw tree and was glad to find this video. I’ve been making your crystallised ginger for years now, so I was extra glad to see this paw paw recipe uses it. Thank you again for your videos. Even though you haven’t posted a video on a few years, they continue to be very helpful. All the best 💕
that was really interesting. I'm trying that now, but just through evaporation. It's going to take a very long time!
Significant loss of bird life on this planet in the last century is the saddest and the most depressing thing that breaks my heart.
Amazing thank you; also flip flops lol
Great video 👌 took me 10 years to see it
That was excellent mate…thanks
The derp look when facing forwards is so funny and cute. And the call is different, for i am a "stinking Western c**t."
🥰🥰🥰😍
The way to get just the pupae without coccons ist to freez the comb and than crushing it by rubbing it between your hands. Use isolated rubber gloves for example. Wax and coccons chips away but the solid frozen pupae stay intakt. Than you can sift out the pupae. You have to worke quick though or in a cold environment. I gave some deep fried and slightly salted to several persons - all were skeptical at the beginning but all confessed that they taste really good. I think the taste is like a mix of roasted peanuts and walnuts. You can use the drone combs which you are sometimes discarding anyway as a method to keep the varroa mites in check - this way you also get the biggest larvae/pupae - if you don't go after queen cells will say 😉.
The currawongs are down again from the Snowy Mountains which are about an hour or so south of here. They arrived here just before sunset, flying to and calling from the trees they frequent in our driveway and in our western windbreak. As Slim Dusty sang it, when they come down from the mountains the switch to cold weather is about a week away. I used to doubt their timing but they are spot on every year with this migration so I associate hearing their calls with heralding the imminent end of indian summer days and the beginning of equinoxial gales or foggy crisp autumn mornings.
Lol 😅😂 Arnold Swar lol
We've just had one on the balcony. We live near Gold Coast. I've only been here a year and a half and only lived in Australia 7 years so a bit unfamiliar with a lot of the bird calls. Ver rarely seen currawongs near the house. It came to see why the butcherbirds, doves and magpie larks were on there (Food). I tried to toss it a little meat but the food went through the balcony wires so a butcherbird dived after the food and startled the currawong which flew away. I then heard an unfamiliar bird call and came to this video to find out of it was the currawong and sure enough it's the same call. :)
Exactly what I needed, thanks!
You’ve just helped me save $40 Australian dollars!!! That’s what they want for a bucket of compost worms here in Sydney. Thank you for your informative vdo now I can get them for free from my own garden.
I used to witness this in my previous home. Magpies were like top dog 😂
Making another batch. Thanks again. ❤
Not a Magpie?
No they have more white feathers and their eyes are not orange
Appreciate that video
She's hard working woman God Bless 🙏 you! And it's an honor to have you visit our channel, we can discuss more about our experiences in harvesting and building farms.
So cute!
Thank you so much for making this video. I wish I had seen it before I ordered the squid press for sugar cane juicing only to find it really doesn't work for that purpose. I have since been blending the cleaned sections in my vitamix w additional water then squeezing out the juice with a nut milk bag or t-shirt and this works much better than the squid press.
Kangaroo poo mate it works a treat and never goes out.
The Chinese and other Asian cultures eat it rare, I tried it and its OK but just can't make myself like it.
Hi there one day I hope to see you soon. I hope you are doing well.
Very good thank u I going to do it
You've inspired me. I think I'm going to set up something for the bees in my garden. I came to watch your video cos I found these insects in my garden. Now I think I know what they are!
❤ Recently and now we are being hammering every day. Rain our verandah is wall to wall rainbow lorikeets. Totally understand 😂
Very different to the Currawongs in WA.
We are so blessed in this beautiful country with its bush.....and the Currawong !!!!
CN you freeze it like to stuff them how do I do that thank you very much ❤❤❤
Thanks for sharing a delicious recipe.
Their yellow eyes makes them look spooky like hell. I ve never been down under... the closest was Malaysia (many times).😂
They look like something out of Harry Potter
Jeff do you still make videos ? 😊
Been making this reciepe for a decade. If you are still around this video is appreciated
