I know how you feel with th Gentleman caller. I bought a tin of Bijou a year ago. Everybody seems to love it. It's in the jar. Smoked it maybe 10 times. It tastes like absolutely nothing to me. Had to mix in some Cavendish to make it vaguely palatable.

You caught some nice smallies. Years ago when I fished the BASS tournaments I would switch to Berkley Power worms when the bite was off. Worked for me. 💨

Brian, I bought that most recent larger chimney poker off of eBay. Since I got it on the 5th, I have not put it down. It’s had a strong diet of Rattray’s Hal of the Wynd and Black Mallory, in which both burn down to white ash and it smokes like a freight train.

You definitely hit a feeding window with the bass there. It reminds me of the time my buddy Rod and I ran out of minnows for drop shotting on a fishing trip. Sometimes you just hit it right. Haven’t found a deer tongue blend I like yet. May have to give this a shot.

Brian, I had Gentleman Caller a number of years ago, and it got pretty cloying pretty fast. Deertongue tastes different than it used to. At one time it was included in all sorts of blends, the two that came to mind are the original Revelation and Brindley's. Also London Dock. I'm talking 40 years ago!

If that tin of Irish Flake is 7 years old, then you'll notice quite a distinct difference from that newer tin. During the whole Peterson/Dunhill rejigger, the blend for Irish Flake apparently changed. The newer blend is more dark fired Kentucky forward and doesn't have that licorice taste to it. It's one of my favorite blends of all time, to smoke on its own and to mix with Virginias and VaPers

This is a blend that I’ve been intrigued by but have yet to try. And from what I’ve seen, it’s one of those divisive blends that you either love or hate?! Tough loss for the mountaineers over the weekend - was pulling for them!

College football is back! The best time of year. I was paying attention to the WV game during commercial breaks of watching my Dawgs skull drag Clemson up and down the field at the Mercedes in Atlanta yesterday. I was really really hoping to see WV pull the upset yesterday, but it got away from WV pretty quickly before the rain delay. That Ardor was beautiful. I saw two at the show that had my attention. The rustication on those Ardors is beautiful. I know another guy who loves Gentleman Caller. Maybe I'll give it a shot. Its the deer tongue that always scares me. Haven't had that one, but I do like Crooner from time time- which also has deertounge, but you can definitely taste it in that. Tastes like herbs and vanilla-ish along with the burley.

I purchased a tin of Gentleman Caller a few years ago and it very deertongue heavy. And I rarely pay attention to tin stories, but that one is hilarious....grandma is busy 😆

Funny you don't get the deer tongue. I smelled it in the tin immediately, Been in my jar about a year and I get a big waft every time I open it. How old is your tin?
