Awesome. Im in San Diego and going to do similar with Catalina I'm buying
Wonder if the sea gods enjoy the weapon of mass destruction
I am fixing to buy boat thanks for ur advice
Y'all still sailing? If so, I'd like to see more adventures!
Looks like fun! We don't get to see you docking, but it seems like you've gotten it down. How did you get good at docking? Did you have a coach in the beginning?
I like your positive vibe. And the dog!
Looks like pukey point alright
What happened? No more videos!
Hello I own Catalina 30 hull 203 1976. I had that the same exhaust trouble once . Made it to the dock. Warning for you. Get rid of that carpet in the event of getting wet it falls apart and plugs the bilge pump. I replaced my A4 With a diesel. No more boat smell. I have a ray marine auto pilot on my tiller. Works great. Also one improvement I made was making a little shelf on hinges. That 10” helps alot when cooking
Rechargeable, no batteries. Lol correction. There is a battery. Hence rechargeable
Hi there! Thank you for posting this video. I am about to venture on my first Catalina smile repair. What epoxy products did you use? I noticed there was a white "structural compound" and another red colored product you used. Thank you in advance!
When I fix them I grind them use 5200 to fill gap after that check out total fair buy totalboat I have used it on a bunch of keels over the last two seasons and it holds perfectly Don't forget the most important part of the repair. The bolts, with out that it will just come right back
Nice video. We enjoyed our time in Catalina
nice job
Good video! Glad you had Farmer Jack to save the day!
Deck hand Jack at the tiller! Thanks for helping El Jefe
Awesome video 🤩
I have a 1981 C30 Tall rig as well(hull#2239). I noticed when I first got it that it was difficult to hoist the main the last 1'-2'. I found easing the outhaul and also easing the vang enough so the boom can go just above horizontal helped tremendously. Also, if not already done, installing ball bearing sheaves at the mast head help as does cleaning the mast track and applying a dry lube like Mc Lube Sailkote. I have a stack pack now and the sail goes up and down like butter. I head to wind, open the halyard clutch and its falls into the bag all on its own. I would love to see more of the interior of your boat. It looks amazing, especially for its age. Nice choice!
Thank you and where is Shoreline? Elliott probably knows but I don’t 🙃
We are in Shoreline nice video
Well done! Salty Dog credits definitely earned!

Sea lions?
Yessss, we feature them often on our channel, they are so funny and very lazy😜
See Episode 10 for the rest of the story…🤩 czcams.com/video/MY1naqj1qdo/video.html
Nice job! How much do you figure you saved doing the repairs yourself? Do you clean the bottom monthly or have a service?
Boat work is expensive, so if you are on any kind of a budget, try to do it yourself. Peter and I saved at least a thousand bucks doing it ourselves. I pay for a monthly bottom cleaning service, which is well worth it.
Great video! Really cool watching how you get the boat in and out of the water. And the boat looked brand new at the end. Very pretty.
Thanks for watching! Yes, very interesting to see the process, huh?!
@@sailinglugares1329 for sure!!
Could you improve your sound please ?
Sorry to be critical but less loud music and better volume/clarity of speech.
@@markbennett9787 yes, great comment and we do need a sound mic for our phone. The editing software doesn’t decrease the volume like it should but working on finding a new one. Thanks for the feedback and for watching!
If I can offer some advice, you need to full hoist the sail when starting out, there should not be any scallops/sags in the luff - your mainsail is not fully raised. Crank the main halyard until you see a crease down the luff - a small crease on a light air day, a big crease on a breezy day. And absolutely run the reefing lines for your two reef settings, and reef the main when the sail gets hard to control. I'd rig out the permanent topping lift for your boom, or add one if some some reason yours has disappeared. The topping lift holds the boom horizontal when you are putting a reef in/out Check ou7t czcams.com/video/yTHdfe7l5mM/video.html
Thanks so much for the advice! You have a great channel as well. My main sail is not the right size for my C30 tall rig, so I have tried overcranking the halyard to get the sail to the top of the mast with no success, and I still have those scallops at the bottom. Could the outhaul be overtightened?
@@sailinglugares1329 The outhaul only adjusts the shape of the foot, it will have little effect on the luff. If the sail is too long in the luff (means the P dimension is too great), you should have a sailmaker cut the sail down to size, otherwise you will be sailing forever with too much heel and too little drive. Like most sailboat problems, the proper application of some money makes the problem go away.
@@SailFanatics thanks for the advice. The main sail is actually too short for my tall rig mast. I relaxed the outhaul the last time out on the water and I was able to get the main up a little more and those horizontal scallops lessened quite a bit.
@@sailinglugares1329 The outhaul should be fully eased when the sail is down. Raise the mail fully, so the luff has a crease, then adjust the outhaul for the desired foot shape. Whats the deal with your reefing lines...gotta have those in place,
The C30 is a great boat to learn sailing! They are plentiful and cheap, but because of the age, they require a lot of work. You can easily buy one for less than $10k if you check around.
Ok that was awesome. Thank you for posting. We just bought a Catalina 30 anyways we love your video’s keep up the good work
Thank you so much!! Congratulations on your Cat 30 and excited for your journey🤩⛵️. Just curious, are you new to sailing or a seasoned pro?
Omg I’m over here holding my heart! Thankful y’all are safe safe safe!!!!! Glad you explained it bc I know this will help another family!!
We have a lot to learn and probably need to wear life jackets 😬🥴.
Love this shot of all three of you! Feeling like I’m here with y’all!!! Keep showing that stuff! So good!!!!!
Ahhh…thanks for watching 🥰
Snowy cracks me up! Not worried about a thing!
I know, right?! Thanks for watching 🤩
What were the winds that day? Assume you guys use some kind of a marine forecast to determine go or no go??? Have you actually practiced a real “captain overboard” rescue? One “lucky”wind gust away from having to do it for real…Murphy’s Law!
Probably a small craft advisory that day, (wind > 20kt). We should not have been out there., but it was warm, and the sun was out, what could possibly go wrong?!!🤪 All joking aside, next time we are out in brisk wind, I will take the opportunity to practice reefing the main 'sl, and actually wearing a life jacket. I did buy a higher quality shackle for the genoa.
@@TheSnowPistol You wont be reefing the main until you have your reefing lines set on the sail - you dont want to try to rig a reefing line at the time you need... they are meant to be permanently in place.
looking at a cat 30 myself. will be my first boat. what are some things to look for when searching for a used one?
The engine is number 1 priority on a used boat. Make sure it works well, because replacing an engine could easily exceed the cost of the boat. The other issue is the fiberglass on the bottom, because there will be blisters, which can be fixed, but expensive if you don't do it yourself.
He should be happy that it's an Atomic 4! Extremely reliable, cheaper fuel, 30 hp, I wish my boat still had its Atomic 4, a previous owner took it out.
Stay tuned! We had some major issues with the A-4, but it is like the energizer bunny, it just keeps going!
Looks very fun and glad you had a relaxing day!
you chose a great boat. super easy to work on I beyond love my catalina
Hi Sailing Artemis! Thanks for the watch and comment, wait for next weeks episode…😳 We thought of you… I’ll send the picture over in Instagram 🤩
And you guys are so cute!!
Great video even though a little stinky🤮. Love the heart valve explanation! Could actually relate to my mother. Glad you got your problem fixed!
Yes, stinky for sure😂 Glad you enjoyed the heart valve comparison, really quite interesting.
What’s next on the repair list and where is the next sailing destination?
OMG! Huge problems with the engine while on open water. Stay tuned!!
Out of the 145 miles, how much under sail? How much by motor? Thx.
Unfortunately, we were under motor the entire trip because we were in a rush to get back for my sons job. Peter tried here and there to grab a few more knots of speed with the sails, but not much luck. The main goal was to transport this boat as fast as possible to Ventura for the repair job, so there was no time to tack back and forth.
How much is the slip rental?
Hi! Slip fees vary, but we pay about $15 per foot for our $30 foot boat monthly. Thanks for the question.
Nice job with the “landing!” Always tricky…😅
Thanks! And yes, for sure.
Love your adventures!
Thank you for watching🫶
