How Does ZeroTier Actually Work?
In this video Tony takes a look under the hood of ZeroTier to understand how it builds connections dynamically between endpoints on the network. He discovers some interesting things along the way that were a bit unexpected as well.

Thank you very much!
hey Jordan, Tony, Chris, mighty trio you are in one place. Been driving with your recorded podcasts over the years :)
Great video! Thank you!
Thank you for the video.
This is an awesome video! Thanks for putting in this hard work!
Thanks ,how we can unlock locked lab
Thanks for the video, helped me out, you explained everything very well. :D
You are amazing … clear ,simple 😊
Why not just use a router going to cloud0 with a nat config? This allows internal device packets exiting getting natted and still leaving the wire via cloud0. But i suppose this is just as doable.
I have been looking for a solution to this scenario for a long time, until I found the solution through this video. THANKS So mush
hi, i cant find the Nested vitalization command , where can i find it
Superb and informative!
just installed a first node in bare metal EVE and was curious how to get it hooked up to the internet. Can't thank you enough for making it super easy for me!
I have followed all the steps as explained in the video but can't still have internet, i connet mt cloud to a cisco router but cant ping the gateway.
O cara é fera 👏👏👏👏👏👏
I need help to take Firewall (PA or other) GUI access, LAB hosted in GCP
As someone that spent most of my professional career so far about 8 years in Emacs, i recently ditched it entirely, it''s awesome don't get me wrong, but compiled from scratch stripped down of Code oss, is equally productive as Emacs or vim, i still use the 100 shortcuts, but the caveat is that it doesn't break each 2 days. Like just last week before i switched, i changed one of my keybinds lsp-treemacs-errors-list a simple command that should bring the popup panel with the error list if it's hidden, i just hide it when i write code anyways. Problem is that for some reason changing the key-bind, made Emacs decided that tab will now open the panel and i can't use tabs anymore, i did fix it after 10 hours of debugging packages and configs. Yes when it works its great, when it doesn't well 10 hours of debugging your editor is anything but fun. code oss, worked out of the box, even though i deleted 80% of the code there and stripped it down to an editor, with just fzf with a search tool and the only other active panel that i left from the original version was the plugin manager, and the fuzzy file finder with C-p. A lot of people nowadays say oh you don't use vim, you are not a great programmer...ok buddy, my paycheck says otherwise and so do the team that i lead. It's not about the editor, at the end of the day it's about what you produce with it.
tried following your blog, but it is giving me an error "could not fetch image resource:" How do I navigate it?
After a reboot, I can no longer ping my gateway from within EVE-NG. Any suggestions? I suck with Linux so that's my main problem :)

the lack of comprehensive and solid documentation is significant. Very basic documentation for such a complex solution.
Very cool video, I appreciate you guys for your openness. To continue the discussion, I don't like the term "Syndrome", because i feel it implies this is a condition, like a mental disease, as if you could just take some pills and be cured. In my opinion, imposter syndrome is actually several things, a cumulation of inefficient ways that we think and feel about ourselves, but also combined with the genuine challenges that we all face at work or with ourselves.
Thanks for the video. I can connect to the cloud directly from devices and access the internet without any issue. I have tried placing a router in front of a topology and performing NAT translation on the router to the range used for the cloud. This does not seem to work for me. Do you have any solution to accommodate this?
Thanks a lot, Great video it helped a lot !!
Hi man, the GCP put my machine down when i connect like your demonstration...
Wonderful guide.. thank you for your valuable efforts..
Awesome. THANK YOU VERY MUCH. Tony, you are my hero. Q: Could you clarify why won't it work when I try to directly connect to Cloud 0, and give the node an IP address from the internal IP range?
Same question
hello, the github link is not working, where are the commands. thank you
Thanks a lot, this is amazing, I like ZeroTier from the start, and knowing how it works and that it's secure is nice :)
The link for the commands is not opening at all.
What's the point of lying saying that you'll put that command on the show notes (not there) and b\log site (not accessible) :(
Lying? This video is nearly two years old. We've since shutdown the podcast and the site is no longer online. I'm sorry you're disappointed by a two year old link no longer being available but please don't assume anyone was lying when they said that the files would be around. Things change.
@@NetworkCollective Hi Tony, any chance you could re-create this video again please? I'm struggling to get it to work and sure would appreciate you taking the time to do this. Thanks so much for creating this video tutorial, the vast majority of people recognise great work when they see it. Thank you!
@@NetworkCollective take the video down or upkeep your content... That's why your channel is a** and didn't make it. You're wasting peoples time. I like how you justified it. How about solve the problem instead of giving an excuse that its an old video. Take it down if its no longer applicable. The video age doesnt justify it still being up and no longer relevant. I almost subscribed till I saw your ignorant comment.
@@garretttuttle9135 aren't you charming.
Thanks Tony, for sharing the video. Indeed you resolve one of the issues in eve-ng. One more favour i need from you. How do I make the configuration persistence in the VM. I tried the link you provided but i get 404 error. Thank you so much for your help.
for future viewers, you need to choose CLOUD1 vpc --- cloud1
Nice presentation.
I see nothing in the notes but a link that isn't working
hello can someone send me the cmd's. the accompanying blog post: link is not working
excellent!
works great.. thanks for the video..it simplifies a lot of things
Hi Is there anyway to setup a cloud with dhcp option. I want to use cloud with dhcp (It will distribute the IPs to connected devices automatically). Thanks
You need to install and configure dhcp server. In the conf file, put subnet and mask configured on cloud1 interface.
thank you for showing the command how to get to the interfaces.
I agree with you so much. Finally, someone who is actually fr. VIM is suitable for a very certain type of code and workflow. VIM will just not give you the number of essential details that VSCode will provide out of the box. Those details are absolutely necessary for a lot of workflows these days. And another thing that I found very weird is when people say that VIM saves you time while coding. VIM makes the writing process very efficient but it will save time only for a very few people who are either writing the same kind of code again and again that they have it memorized or they are 60-year-old aces of the industry. The rest of us write 20 lines of code and spend 20 minutes on StackOverflow so the time argument does not really work for people like me. The setup that I find the best is VSCode with the new neovim extension. It does not emulate VIM in VSCode but connects to neovim and creates an instance of it in VSCode. Coding is thinking and thinking is not about how fast you can write or edit code. It is about how good of a solution you can come up with for a very particular problem.
Thank you very much sir. I install eve ng in vmware workstation player on my lunix laptop, but the ping to my physical laptop(lunix) to my lab failed; can you help me please? Thank you.
Is the engine are open source so you can understand how it works from the code itself
Hi. Thanks for that. Have you ever consider yourself, create a practical network course, exploring the facets of the networking using even-ng and then apply the theory. Most of the internet courses are theory massive, this was exactly that I looked for. So I don't have money to pay for the instances, then I have created a eve-ng server at home and config the zerotier which worked like a charm. God Bless you heaps. Cheers mate!
The net element, in which interface works? , bridge, cloud1..2.., What is the difference between bridge and cloud interfaces?
Bridge is linked to pnet0, cloud interfaces are liked to the other pnet interfaces. Cloud interfaces are used to make links internal to the lab. They explain them well in the cookbook.
while i can connect out, my download speeds are just aweful. Thoughts?
Not working at all for me, I am able to follow the exact steps and all verification commands match yours but when i come to verify with the VPC it says host not reachable.
Thanks a lot 🙏🙏🙏
Hi Tony, I was wondering if its possible to set up a wireless lab using this zerotier solution together with eve-ng on cloud. Im thinking of the topology like this: physyical access-point -> physical switch -> pc with zerotier -> eve-ng cloud -> vWLC VM. Do you think that this is possible?
the link in your description is broken
