I set the microphone to its middle (instead of high) gain setting, and increased the gain in the camera to compensate. I could not get the longer lens to work with the focus motor (for zoom), so I reverted to just plunking the camera straight onto the fluid head and pulling zoom by hand. @@genecreamers4480 I'm between the perimeter fence and NE Marine Drive. It's as close as it gets, except maybe the bike path under the approach, but then it's only incoming 28R and really hard to read tail numbers.
Hello if someday I'm seeing you spotting airplanes I'll honk you driving by Marine drive 😁😁 also it was weird to see a A330 taking off from Rwy 28R the heavy ones usually use the 28L because it's a longer runaway.
I guess bean counters say the extra ~1200 feet of runway isn't worth a few more seconds of taxiing.🤔
I work right by KTTD, I absolutely adore anyone that takes the time to spot at KPDX, might not be super interesting all the time but we do get a few awesome birds!

My guess is those Chinook may have been heading to central Oregon to help fight wildfires.
I couldn't tell what they were until I was editing the footage.
I saw a TV news clip that showed a Sierra Pacific 737 and said that woodland firefighters had arrived at PDX on it. The passengers at 24:13 look military from here, but I suppose they might be firemen.

5:07 The A330 landing footage is unstable because the biggest rain spell of the day was just ending and I was trying to hold the bag I use to cover the camera in one hand and also keep my umbrella hat from blowing away with one foot. 😮😅

I want to go planespotting here but unfortunately there aren’t really any good spots, especially with the road being taken over by the homeless camps
I have neither seen camps on Marine Drive nor on 82nd Way. Most spotters film from atop the parking structure anyway.

Same day. You can see it arriving on the parallel runway at 21:35. I was at the filming location for about eight hours, and spent another three hours walking plus two more on public transit in getting there and back.
The longer lens arrived, as well as the stronger gimbal. I need a different adapter to get the new (used) lens to fit on the new (used) gimbal, so I'm still using the EF-M 55-200mm here. There was no 4kHz interference that I could hear, nor see in the spectrograph, so maybe the previous gimbal was causing it.

I'm thinking of getting a longer lens. All the obvious choices necessitate a stronger gimbal. Suppose I would need a bigger backpack too ..
