Nice interview, always great to hear from Max. He has some very interesting philosophical ideas Max. But I wonder if he would comment on the issue of the Bitcoin base layer being changed by expanding the Bitcoin Script language's op codes. It sounds to me like a pretty dangerous proposition. Two proponents of it are Rusty Russell and Andrew Poelstra. Poelstra is even trying to get rid of the BIP system, which I think would be disastrous for Bitcoin. The BIP system is the equivalent of the RFC system used for the Internet standards.

Important to discuss bitcoin "waste of energy " argument. Doesn't it cost money to run a bankomat? Doesn't it cost money to verify contact info and addresses? Doesn't security of a building or network system cost money? Doesn't printing money cost money, energy, and resources? Sweden had its own tech company that prints and mints kronor? Doesn't it cost Sweden something when it allowed an American transnational corporation to buy it? I lived in Karlstad and Stockholm and had the pleasure to be friends with someone who coded to stop the machines that print money when the colors would distort to reduce the cost of printing money with errors in it. Why doesn't anyone in Sweden address this conversation?

There are many cryptocurrencies that are POW, decentralized, and have a fixed limit. This is important, because not only is the main chain decentralized, but even the concept of cryptocurrency is decentralized too.

It's awesome to see so many newcomers embracing the space. I was very lucky to be early. Right place at the right time. While at UCLA in 2011, I stumbled upon Bitcoin and initially dismissed it as a joke. However, curiosity led me to delve into the white paper. I spent a few weeks exploring and learned a great deal from Charlie Shrem, who was a pioneer in those days. It was a tight-knit community. Eight months later, I invested my student loans of $15,800 in Bitcoin when it was under $5. After graduating in 2015, paid my student loans, declined my internship at Google and left the USA permanently. I cashed out 10 percent of my holdings in 2017 and another 10 percent in 2021. I still retain 80 percent of my original 2011 portfolio, which I intend to hold indefinitely. For me, Bitcoin transcends mere profit; it's about changing the world, challenging a system that predominantly benefits Western countries, and promoting dedollarization to foster a more equitable global economy.

I’m 66, stacked gold 20 years, started stacking sats early (mtgox) lost some, sold some, mined some. So you can teach an old boomer new tricks. A few years ago became convinced it is the future of money. The apex asset as Saylor says. Sold all my gold and silver for bitcoin. Better in one year than gold in 30. In all that time, trying to orange pill hundreds (from before orange pill was even a thing) it got through to maybe two. We are still so unbelievably early.

Joe nailed it when he said the volatlity of Bitcoin is a reflection of the people using it and no fault of Bitcoin itself. Nice one.

Re the apple example, YES, the price of packaging transport maintenance is more expensive than before.

What is to stop bitcoin on the main chain from being squeezed out of being used in any transaction as credit derivatives take its place due to the costs associated with moving on the main chain? And then if almost nobody is settling on the main chain why would miners continue to stand by ready to solve a hash? It generally happens very slowly, but credit and derivatives replace real money. then when the music stops and its clear that the real money cant support the credit claims, leaders will remove real money from the system and then back to fiat. If its too costly to interact with bitcoin on chain, although small circles of people will use Lightning, why would anyone hold and use actual bitcoin...other than a few people out of principle? The large institutions that hold your bitcoin and transact over lightning may not have as much bitcoin as claimed (fractional reserve banking) leading the world down the same path as before
