I shattered my ankle the other day while skating behind an abandoned building. Throughout the entire experience I listened to this compilation. While I was laying on the ground looking at the sky, waiting for the ambulance to arrive, I put this video on and it turned a pretty shitty situation into a moment of appreciation for life. I had a big smile on my face when the paramedics showed up. I had one earbud in the entire time, so I could talk to everyone, but also listen to The Mountain Goats. They had to give me anesthesia so they could set my foot back in place, and while I was high as shit, I was still listening to this. I woke up seeing shapes and weird Picasso-esque people surrounding me, asking if i knew what day it was. I couldn't answer. Terrifying. But John Darnielle was singing Heel Turn 1 in my ear. "I'm not going to die in here" so I knew it was gonna be alright. I'm going to need surgery for my ankle to heal properly and I can't afford it. But if by some miracle I do get the surgery, I plan to listen to this video the entire time.

Thank you for putting this together, you rock! But, now you're going to inevitably get comments about deep cut songs you didn't include here. Mine are: "Sure Do Love You Baby But I Can't Do 60 No More", "Birthday Song: This Time Has Gone", and if we're counting covers, John's take on "Milkcrate", written by Franklin Bruno. Those three are great. But you've got all the real choice songs in here, I can imagine how long this must have taken you. Thanks from the community for doing this excellent work!
