The Bank of America Chicago Half Marathon is the 2nd part of the Chicago Distance Series. This is my 3rd time running this race and it did not disappoint. I had a pretty solid pace until mile 8. The heat got the better of me and I just missed a sub 2 hour half by a few seconds. I will now refocus and start training for the Berlin Marathon this Monday! London Marathon 2024 - running for charity with RNID. Spoiler alert - I cried at the end.

The London Marathon 2024! I just completed my third major marathon of the school year, and London was absolutely incredible! It was my first time running the London marathon, and my goal was to enjoy every moment-and boy, did I have a blast! Running for RNID (Royal National Institute for Deaf People) was fantastic; their support at three different spots along the course was invaluable. While I ...

Great video, thanks a lot!
Thank you for watching! :)
5:15 before you started talking about the Mach 6. Just saying……..
Thanks for watching Tom. CZcams put chapters on some of my videos but not this one for some reason. Not sure if you're a Hoka fan, but I love this shoe, it's still in my rotation for marathon training.
I have the gel nimbus 25 and they are soo comfy. It’s the only shoe I run in as I’m happy to run slow and short and long.
The 25s are one of my all time favorite shoes. Such a comfortable ride!
Great review! Would you say this shoe runs true to size? I've heard some people mention that this shoe is a little short in length...
I feel like it’s true to size. I am a size 9 and there is plenty of room. If anything I have to remember to cinch down the laces because there is a little slippage.
@@darylbickford Sounds good! Looking into getting a pair myself for faster long runs with something that could provide a decent amount of cushioning. Also, thank you for the extremely quick response! Just subscribed!
@@samkovalchik5655 Appreciate the sub. You’ll love these shoes. Let me know how it goes.
Love the fact you filmed during your race; I don’t think I could ever be able to multi-task that well. Lol Your energy is contagious! Great job on a well-executed race!
Thank you so much! Running London was such an amazing experience.
You’re awesome man! I appreciate your review and your honesty and humbleness about being newer to shoe reviews.
I appreciate the comment! I've been running a long time but talking about shoes is totally new to me! Looking forward to doing some reviews in the next few weeks.
Good to come across your channel… we met in London earlier this year at Kofuzi shakeout run
That is CRAZY!!!! That run was such a fun time - any races coming up?
I just did my first run in the Rebel and really liked it. I normally like a bit more cushion, but they're so comfortable. New Balance SC Trainer 3 or Asics Superblast for your long runs.
This shoe has that perfect combination of cushion and firmness. I have heard so much good things about the Superblast - I might need to give them a try for the long runs.
Enjoyed the video! I’m glad I ran into you there.
Thanks! Hope the race went well!
Excellent video!
Thank you! I had such a fun time running this race!!!
Well done
Thank you!!! :)
Looks amazing! What was the charity application process like for London? Did you apply to several? My experience with finding a charity at NYC marathon was surprisingly tough!
Thanks. London was a blast. It was an easy process. If I’m not mistaken London is one of the biggest fundraisers for the world majors - meaning there are a lot of charities. I applied to 4 different charities. Two were full and two said yes. I would start the process as soon as you can!
Nice review. Relatable. My Nimbus 25 are at 126 miles and still feel/look great. I bought the 26’s and they are at 94 miles. Same thing, feel and look great. Wore them to a Pearl Jam concert a few nights ago and felt great standing in them for almost the 2.5ish hours they played. Looking to get some New Balance More V4
I just bought a pair of NB Fuel Cell V4 for my daily trainers. I might have to look at the fresh foams for my longer runs! I hope the Pearl Jam concert was fun! I’ve never seen them live.
Great job!!! It's Ms. Michelle in case you are wondering
Thank you !!!!🙏
Congrats Daryl on a well-executed race! London looks like a blast
Thank you Tom! Such a great day. See you at the Chicago Half!
Just ordered a pair of these, keen to smash out some parkruns in them!
These are some fast and light shoes! Enjoy!
Great video , enjoying. Glad you had a great day in my favourite city ever, big hug man. Keep in touch , subscribed already 😊
Thank you! Come run Chicago!!
I bet that Ankle collar would tear to shreds my Achilles Tendon 😢, the weight and the colors are not appealing.
I usually wear no show socks but had to switch to ankle socks for these.
Yes colourways are not good ....
Test! Good luck in London
Thanks! 😃
Such a fun race! Great Job with the PR! 🔥
Thanks! Are you running the Chicago half??
@@darylbickford Yes, the Bank Of America Half. See you there?? 🔥
@@Louieg_fitness Yes!!! Let’s gooooo
Nice seeing you today! Did you end up PR’ing? Good luck in London. It’s gonna be great.
I did PR!!! I was supposed to be running goal marathon pace but I felt good so I pushed and went for it. Good to see you and can’t wait to see how Green Bay goes for you!
For socks , look for "Nike Grip running socks." I had lots of different models over the years, and they male.your feet to like "glue" inside the shoes. The experience of running with your shoes will be improved for the better by a long shot. There are many great running socks around, from big brands like Nike, Adidas or Asics, and some other great ones, but the best of the best for me are the models of Nike Grip. I have been using these socks for more than 15 years now, and they kept getting better and better . By the way, I also love my Asics Gel-Nimbus 26 ! Super stable ,nimble, and versatile for bulky shoes .
Hi which one do you prefer kayano or nimbus. Thank you 🙏
Nimbus for sure! But, I actually prefer the NIMBUS 25s. I feel like they are softer, especially for long runs.
@@darylbickford Thank You for your right advice.! 😊🙌
I love stance socks for my taller socks the run light ones and the feetures socks for ankle socks. Feetures has max light and ultra light cushioning. I have not tried the ultra light cushioning. For winter I have the smartwool hiking socks I use for running and the stance hiking socks for running for extreme cold
Thanks for the recommendation! I’ll have to do some shopping. I haven’t narrowed down my London Marathon “kit” yet. Socks are going to be an important part!
@@darylbickford I used to run in the Nike socks but after running in the feetures and stance socks I could never go back to running in regular athletic socks only running socks for me now lol
This your choice shoe for the marathon or just test driving?
I’m using these for speed work. I just bought a pair of Endorphin Pro 3s for race day- talk about comfortable!!
@@darylbickford can almost do shoe reviews like Kafuzi! 🤣 what are your thoughts on the Adios?
@@Plant_Traced Ha! He knows everything about shoes! This shoe was so lightweight and the continental rubber grip on the outsole gave it so much traction. Literally felt like I was flying! Have a great morning. Off to get my 20 miler in!
What will you use on London marathon race day?
So, for Chicago and NYC I wore the Metaspeed Sky. Chicago the shoe felt fine, but after almost 5 hours on my feet in NYC I think I might need to make a switch. A friend of my told me to look at the Endorphin Pro. Any thoughts?
@@darylbickford Saucony is a very solid brand…I just find it hard to spend $250 on a shoe! lol
@@Plant_Traced Seriously! I tutor after school for shoes!! LOL
@@darylbickford I’ll be watching and rooting for you come marathon time in April! ✌🏻
@@darylbickford I have a nine-year-old I need to send you for math tutoring.🤣
Ankle collar…
If it’s not broke don’t fix right? Notice you picked up the Gel-Nimbus 26…why not a Novablast or other “super” shoe?
Would you recommend Novablast 3 or 4?
Sorry one other question - any good recs for a super shoe? I have the London Marathon coming up and haven’t decided what to use.
@@darylbickford Vaporfly next % 3!
@@darylbickford Novablast 4
I think your use of Gel-Nimbus is on point…great max cushion shoe…I feel is underrated! ☺️
What you trying now that you are retiring these? Nike Invincible 3/4? What about NB SC Elite? Nike Alfa or Vapor fly?
Your shoe recs are on point! I really need to start shopping for some different stuff.
Feel better! ❤️🩹
Thanks!!!!! Perks of working with 600 kids! Enjoy your Sunday!
I wish I was able to take footage of my run, I enjoy watching everyone's videos. Congrats on your finish.
Thank you! I honestly wish I had taken time to film a little bit more than I did! I was struggling near the end!l 🤣
@@darylbickford still a good time considering you ran Chicago a month prior, and I see New York as a much tougher run then Chicago, though when I ran Chicago it was very warm.
@@RichRuns909 Appreciate it. What’s next for you? I have London in April. I tried for Berlin but no luck this year.
@@darylbickford I am running the Revel: White Mountain marathon in New Hampshire in May, most likely the Baltimore Marathon in October and I told my wide I would help pace her in Philadelphia in November. I also may do the Icebreaker marathon this month on Long Island, but if I do, I will just do it for the mileage. Good Luck in Berlin.
@@RichRuns909 That is a busy running year! Can’t wait to see how everything goes for you! Good luck!
Thanks for the video, also running Chicago so watching everything thats on CZcams. Ran New York this year and it felt I binged watched everything on the New York marathon including the 2023 runners that posted on CZcams.
I ran NYC this year too. That was a HARD course, but I had so much fun. The crowd support was amazing. I’ll be at Chicago again this year.
Great effort. I’m running Chicago in 2024 and will be aiming for sub 4 too. Best of luck in the future. 🤘👍🏴 how did the metaspeed feel for the whole duration?
Thanks!! If you have any questions about the marathon let me know. 2024 will be my 6th Chicago marathon! I love these shoes! They gave me (at least mentally) a push when I needed it. I haven’t decided if I’m going to use them for London or try something new. :)
I’m also running London and have just bought the Metaspeed edge+. Haven’t decided if I’m going to use them or the alpha fly. Best of luck with London. 👍
@@nathanman8 I was thinking about those shoes too!!! Training starts soon for London - good luck!!!
Nice video! Great job on the race what a blast it was!
Thank you. What’s next for you ?
@@darylbickford Going to rest for now with no big races planned but put my name in for the NYC Half lottery
Why didn't you show the finish line ???? You showed the whole race but NOT the actual finish line ?????? Most NYC videos show the finish line, which is a logical conclusion to a video about the NYC Marathon. -- From a 22-times NYC Marathon finisher
Funny story. My finish line video file was corrupted. The video froze on an image but you could still hear the audio. Imagine how disappointed I was that I couldn’t show that part. :(.
Also, 22 times!!. That’s amazing. This was most likely my only time running the NYC marathon. I was lucky enough to get in via the lottery.
@@darylbickford Thank you for telling me this was the reason. I feel better knowing it was a camera problem and not a brain problem!!! 😀🤣 You did capture the essence of the race, the excitement from the crowds.
@@darylbickford I am old - I started running it many years ago when it was not quite as hard to get into as it is now. Now I get lifetime Guaranteed Entry because I have done it 15 times or more. That lifetime guaranteed entry is my second-most treasured possession, right after my Frank Sinatra record collection. 😀
@@cathynewyork7918 The NYC crowd was unbelievable!!! Thank you. Hopefully no camera issues for London :).
Such an insane day!! Stoked to see other people having fun with it 😝
I kinda want to try it again. !!!
Thank you for supporting LGBT and Trans Black and Indigenous people. Recommend regular vaccines to protect others.
Don't make our marathon political - it is a beautiful running race, not a political statement.
Currently in New York there are hundreds of placards posted everywhere encouraging people to get vaccinated. We know that without covid-19 vaccines the New York Marathon wouldn't be able to take place. I support Trans, Blacks and Indigenous people to take them. Nothing to do with politics.
🤘🤘. Thank you for watching. I had a great time at the race!
Congratulations on a great race, awesome footage, and a beautiful medal!
Appreciate it. The NYC spectators had their own vibe!!!
Hey man I was wondering if you've met Wrinkle the duck and she and her owner ran the New York City Marathon this year too?
I hope the duck did NOT go into the marathon this year - a duck does NOT belong in our prestigious marathon and makes a mockery of the hard effort that we runners put into our marathon.
@@cathynewyork7918 Oh yes she did. Search up "Duck Runs NYC Marathon Again - gets a medal" and its been uploaded 5 days ago. Wrinkle the Duck and her owner ran the New York city marathon again this year since they do live in New York. They are really popular and if you look at the comments everyone is rooting for her.
This video brought back some memories. You had a blast!
I had so much fun! NYC Marathon was a vibe!!!
@@darylbickford I ran the 50th in 2021. I thought it would be first and last I would run it. I am starting to reconsider…
@@yuthemanAt some point I’ll consider this race again. I put my name in for Berlin so fingers crossed for that!
If you turn that 1.51 first half in to let’s say a 1.58 give or take running around 7 mins slower which is around 30 secs a mile slower you will conserve so much energy.I’m sure you could even split the full distance.I ran a 1.42 half and came in at 3.24 at Chicago this year. That 1.51 half tells me you’ve got it in your locker 👍
I think that’s a great idea. I burnt up too much energy in that first half so next time I’m going to slow down and pace myself better. Also, impressive race for you. What’s next ?
Congrats on the PR and thank you for sharing! You were flying at the half. Was that one of your best halves? Interesting enough, we finished at similar times but you were 9 minutes ahead of me at the half.
Thanks! I felt like I was on pace for a sub 4 for a long time but really lost a lot of ground at mile 17. That’s pretty close to my PR for a half. How was the race for you? Do you have any other races coming up this year? I’m about to register for Chicago again tonight.
@@darylbickford I really wanted a sub 4 too but it wasn't there for me at the end. In the end, I was happy. I got a PR too, and it was just an awesome day with the crowd support. Yes! I am doing the distance series again this year (applied to Chicago today too). I am also doing the Eugene Marathon in April. First time, I'm doing a spring marathon and wondering what winter training in Chicago will be like. Hope to see you out there. We are getting our sub 4s soon. Best of luck in NYC!
