Thanks for the comment mate, in all of my later videos I have used a mic. Sorry the audio is so poor.
do you know about gloves, protection glasses and supports ?
lol! Yes since this video I have bought gloves and eye wear!
Hey John. Thanks for sharing. Very detailed process you presented. Need to do mine too. What was your milage when you done this?
Hi mate I did this at 173k. Good luck
@@johnedwards7118 wow and was this first time the oil been changed on yours? Mine is only at 119k and the shudder is apparent and the revs indicator moves up and down from time to time. Mine hasn’t had the oil changed yet but I would thought the symptoms wouldn’t come at around at least 150-170
@@miroarva1424 I suspect that was the 1st time my gear oil had been out, I am actually looking to change the oil again in a couple of months as this only gets 60% of the old oil out so now it’s had a good mix I’ll drop the oil out again and refill just to ensure the oil is too quality in there. Good luck with the change, let me know how it goes. I’m on insta with the same user name if you have questions or get stuck DM me on there and I’ll get back to you asap.
What the hell? Tell us something
All done now mate, full video on my CZcams channel! Rides so much better now!!
Great video. Massive job! 😮
Was good fun though
Do you no if the engine sump cums off easy I need to replace my gasket?
Hi mate, that’s not a job I have had to do yet, my understanding is that it’s quite easy to do. Should just in bolt however if the last person that had it off used a bit of sealant as well as a gasket could be a bit trickier to get off. Good luck
@@johnedwards7118 thank you
@@user-dt2up9wo4u you’re welcome! Good luck mate.
Well done, mine needed doing when I first got my D3 but wasn’t brave enough to do it, perhaps next time 👍 Very impressed
On the near side lower it looked like you didn’t have to take the driveshaft out. Did you have a trick for that. Thanks
It was a slog, wasn’t all that technically difficult, would have been a nightmare if I was in a rush. The best bit of advice would be give yourself the time. Glad you liked the video. Thanks for getting in touch.
Respect for taking on such a big job
Thanks mate, was a few times when I thought I’d taken on too much in one go, car drives amazing now! Best thing I’ve ever done on it.
the lengthy discussion ....and then the fusebox comes easily out." made me chuckle.
Glad you liked it, getting it back in was one of the worst jobs I’ve ever done!
Fantastic learning video I used your last ones around maintenance. Keep them coming . However if you fancy doing mine your welcome
With the amount of rain we are getting these videos are getting a lot of plats now. Hope it helped. Are you changing yours?
Great done and show how to,👌
Glad you liked it mate! Hopefully it helps
Near me you can hire a garage with a lift for not much a day. Have you thought doing that for such a big job?
Hi Rob, I have thought about it however I do this during daddy day care time, so have to be around to fix bikes and make drinks for the kids during the day. Plus I’m a glutton for punishment!
Great info this mate. Getting my Disco ready for week up in the highlands and this has probably saved me a hunred quid on roof bars. We sleep in the back of our disco with a self inflating mattress, but when you fold down the rear seats, they don't sit flush with the floor in the boot. So we nabbed a pallet and it was the perfect hight to bring the boot floor level with the back seats. Had cut it down slightly so it fit snug in the boot, and then we made some drawers to go in the pallet so we can put the stove in their etc. Could be an idea for a video for you. Also have a look at a unistrut DIY roof rack, another idea for you.
Ah mate! That’s great news, it’s saved you a few quid! I eventually I am going to go for a tent box roof tent. I have never really explored the Uk too much the Disco 3 will be perfect for it.
Thanks very much for showing that!
No problem! It’s a tricky job! Good luck
Took me a couple of days to fit mine on my D3 and a load of drills bits now got a D4 and thinking of getting a Mantec Snorkel but I’ll save up to get loads of carbide dill bits before I start😂
It’s incredible how many drill bits are required! Also quite comforting to know how strong those pilars are!!
please buy some safety glasses other that keep the videos coming
I will do, the raining hot grinder sparks got me a couple of times, deffo on the list now, gloves too!
Looks mickey mint. 👌🍻
Thanks mate! I’m really pleased with it, marks the start of the mods for over landing
Another Great video 😀 Keep them up. I am not sure on this, How long did it take you per headlight ? I might have gone down route of replacing the Headlight lens cover ? What's your thoughts ?
Oh mate! 100% do this! Use the auto glym kit! It was about 30mins per headlamp. Easy AF and great results.
@@johnedwards7118 I think this could be a balance between time and effort. I would like to send you some PPe, How can we make this happen ?
@@johnedwards7118 Sound mate, How do i DM you ?
Love the videos dude, keep them coming!
Thanks for the comment mate! Appreciate it. Got all 4 front arms to do next!!!
Looks great!
Was a nightmare to fit, worth it though!
Well done looks a great job. I’ve seen a few videos and everyone struggles with drilling the A pillar and just gets two bolts in. I got a Dremel for cutting metal in tight spots much more controllable than an large angles grinder, perhaps add one of those to your tool box? Great video 👍
@@roberttruman8332 I’d love a dremel, it’s already on my Christmas list.
@@roberttruman8332 got a dremel now mate! Thanks for the tip!
good job! Thnx for share
Hope it helped buddy! It’s a pig of a job but the truck is running lovely now!
Well done! Not many people would take on this job, and would rather scrap the vehicle. Air suspensions are not complex, but they do need upkeep like any component. You are a true Land Rover enthusiast like most people who watch your videos I'm sure.
Thank for the message, I love that truck despite it being a pain in the bum. The suspension system was a nightmare and I replaced nearly every part however works a treat now. The issue was the coils it was on still used the height sensors to adjust the headlamps
Also good to do the sensor in front of the oil filler cap (The one the blue pipe is pointing to ) I forget the name of it lol but saw it on another vid a while back . Keep up the good work .
Thanks for the comment! I’ll check that out!
Aerosol sprays always work better if they are kept vertical while spraying so that the spray is horizontal especially the spray "duster " always worth remembering .
Thanks for the tip, I’ll bear it in mind in future. Makes sense when I think about it.
Nicely done! I need to do this on my V8 soon, so you've served as inspiration as I was not looking forward to this job. The only thing I would do differently is installing a Sonax Zip Kit whilst the Mechatronic unit is out as well as a metal gasket instead of paper. Keep an eye on that gasket for leaks!
I was dreading this job, easily the biggest I have undertaken! I am still living in fear of the leaks. The only part of that kit I was unimpressed with was that gasket. I’ll upgrade the gasket when I have it off to change the filter next. Good luck doing the job, let me know how you get on. If you get stuck in on Instagram with the same name so bang me a message and I’ll get back to you.
i missed how you got the fuse box out ie the connectors on the back etc the o/s was a walk in the park but the n/s/f i gave up with the fuse box and cut a hole in the inner wing just under where the pipe comes out as you cannot even see the pipe inside the car , i glued a repair patch over the hole i made I've been a panel beater for 54 years so i have a bit of experience and my vehicle is a range rover sport cheers Mark
That is a quality solve! Getting that fuse board back in was the worst job I have ever done! A mate of mine is a mechanic and he told me with a bit of force you can twist it through 90degrees so you can actually see the plug side on and get it in, you have to be very careful twisting it back though. Not a job I will be doing again in a hurry.
Great Video, Keep them up 😀I think the only way to learn is to have a go. I run a busy Agri workshop, we work on things from washing machines/4x4/tractors/mowers/plant/irrigation/cars we all so have to fabricate too. So keep it going with your enthusiasm.😄
Thanks mate, appreciate your comment. I have a few bits that I want to have made up, like a full steel under tray and a winch mount. Please DM me so I can have your details to get this stuff made up when it’s fully mechanically fit.
Great video, I had the same issue with the passenger side in January and wanted to do the driver side but was too scared!, feel more confident to do it now 😀
If we knew what we were doing we would never buy a Discovery 😀 I think you are doing a great job 👍
@@roberttruman8332 hi mate, it’s far far easier than the passenger side no where near the headache of the CJB!!!! It’s a lot closer too on the drivers side. No mechanic yoga this time. The main issue is getting the air vent off without breaking it. Slow build up of constant pressure on the bottom edge did the trick.
@@roberttruman8332 thank you, it’s a little bit of the blind leading the blind but I just found that many of the other videos make everything look so easy. The German channel have me thinking I can rebuild an engine block on a weekend! I couldn’t imagine how much swearing would be involved if I was making those videos!
Was there any improvement on mpg ? Great vid by the way , ive just bought a disco 3 also so binge watching your vids 🤣 have you had any issues with the instrument cluster yet ? ie losing power to it whilst driving ? The speedo the fuel gauge everything goes off ?
Hi mate, there was an improvement, about 4-5mpg on a long run. I’m glad you like the videos and I hope they help. I try to make them more warts and all as I noticed a lot of videos don’t show all the things that go wrong and mistakes made. I’ve not had anything go on my instrument cluster yet. I would recommend that you get a good code scanner as the fault can sometimes be the opposite end of the car from the problem. Thanks for the comment and god luck with the truck.
@@johnedwards7118 I enjoy your vids the way there shot and not edited to death like some others , I will invest in a computer 👍
Great video, Keep them coming, I enjoy them :) Has for them meski bolts under the cross member, You could use a bit set that fits a 10mm ratchet spanner.
I did think about getting a low profile ratchet but I had already broken the gearing on my 1/4 drive trying to get the fill hole open and then had to buy a new 3/8 drive as I broke that one in the diff video, so I was £60 down replacing the tools! My wife is understanding but to a point! So I just had to do those bolts under the cross members the hard way.
@@johnedwards7118 If you had a Po Box, I will send you some PPE, Oil and grit in the face and arms is not nice, been there loads of times.
You might want to practice off camera before recording. It seems at times you don't really know what you are doing.
Hiya, thanks for the comment, I’ll take it on board. It’s just a hobby and I do it all in one take, I have found a lot of videos make these jobs seem a lot easier than they are, I want to try to convey that they are quite tricky jobs and things never go to plan, and that it’s ok that they don’t as long as you persist. I’m 100% not a pro and am learning as I go. Appreciate the comment and I’ll try and make a few changes on my next video.
@@johnedwards7118 Appreciated and the content is generally good and helpful
Nicely done. Keep the videos coming.
Thanks mate, I have never had so much oil in my eyes in my life! Messiest job ever!
Facing forward is then a RAM air input, or so people say. By the time the air has made it down the pipe and round the bends will it be? Facing backwards would you get an area of dead air or even lower pressure air resulting in air being drawn out? You’ll have to drive it both ways to check performance and see if you notice any difference? I really don’t know. A separate video in its self, more content 👍😀
Looks like I’ll have to fire up the GAP tool and measure the performance.
Removing the fill-plug also prevents an air-lock when you are draining the oil.
Thanks for the comment, very useful
Thanks for the video, really helpful. I'm going to do mine next week. My Disco is the same age as yours.
Good luck mate! I hope the hulk didn’t do yours up! I am doing the gearbox and transfer case oil, filter and seals this weekend.
Thanks for another Great Video 😀 I am about to do this job and change the oil in the transfer case, I believe front dif hold's 0.6 Lts rear dif 1.1 Lts and transfer box 1.5 Lts. Plusgas spray i think is the best on the market. Keep the vid's coming i do enjoy them. 😃
I am doing the transfer case this weekend, I have also bought all the seals on the mechatronic unit to so will replace them while I am in there.
@@johnedwards7118 The auto gear box i believe holds 3.5 to 4 lts of oil.
What socket set do you use
Hi mate, I have a small socket set from Halfords,
Hi, Great Vid, When I have been looking for this type of problem, Take the fuse out for the air suspension, leave of night, this will rule out wheel height sensors, then i would do what you did check for air leaks, external and internal are harder to detect. For me I think you problem is with the air diverter valve near the compressor and tank. To test swop the front air pipe with the rear. Keep up the vid's 😀
Thanks mate! You were bang on, I put a new AMK compressor in and then swapped out the central valve along with all new airlines. All sorted now. Thanks again for the comment
Great video :) This is just my thought, I would use heat shrink to protect the socket, Silicone grease on the micro switch and motor bike chain oil/grease on the latch. Keep this great content going..
Mate!!! That’s a great idea! Why didn’t I think of that! If the balloon breaks or decays (I suspect it will) 100% I’m doing that!!! Thanks for the comment.
Great video :) I do love land Rover content :) 😀
Same here!
Nice one! Looks heaps better 💪.
Thanks 👍
Very useful, thanks for sharing 👍
Glad it has helped!
I think they came out great. Very sturdy at a great price. If anything, maybe sanding them down and spraying them black. But all in all they look good on the Rover and really make an already sporty vehicle look even better 👍
Oh I hadn’t even thought of spraying them!! That’s a class idea thanks!
Hi, is it just the large washer holding it in the fitted rails?
Yes mate, 30mm M8 washer fits the standard rails perfectly!
@@johnedwards7118 Thanks for the reply, seems a good easier option.
Great vid, looks like a sensible option
Thanks mate, it does the job, I will upgrade to an overland roof rack one day but couldn’t face paying the Thule prices
Thanks for your video it was very helpful. Must say the air was much bluer here!!! Having put it all back together I found the car wouldn’t start so had to strip it again and found the connectors at the rear weren’t making proper contact. Reconnected it surprisingly quick time and all appears well. Now to rid myself of the wet footwell. I did the drivers side which was much quicker. No water that side but when I checked it I could see the end of the pipe was perished, so this was preventative. Must say I have No desire to do it again, even in the sun!
Yes mate! That passenger side is a nightmare. You’re better than me I still have the drivers side to do!
Never knew about the height adjustment on the latch. Great video. Keep em coming! Cheers!
You’re welcome! Was really annoying having a loose corner. Was pleased I have done that now. Thanks for the comment!
Hi great video and we’ll timed as I was going to do this at the weekend. My bottle is fine but I’m getting a low coolant level alert but it is fine. Seems that the sensors has a float and over time the float decays and gets stuck, hence the alert. Was the bleeding easy? I thought the was another bleed location under the engine cover? Also when do you close the bleed locations once it’s all done? Thanks Bob
Hi Bob, pleased this has helped. The clamp at the bottom of the coolant system where I drained the coolant from is fiddly, my hose was stuck well on and the clamp doesn’t slide down the pipe like normal as it gets caught on the clasp above. I’m sorry my footage doesn’t show it very well, I got my pliers and opened the clasp up the zip ties the pliers so it would stay open so I could use two hands on the pipe. Once the pipe was off the system drained in a minuet maybe 2 then I just put my hose in till it ran clear. The 1st bleed screw behind the fan will leak 1st, you will hear the air coming out when you do your 1st pour. Then when that bubbles out I closed it off leaving the bleed tap open on the new tank, then start the car and warm it up, keep topping it up as you go then when the tank screw bleeds close that up too, let the car cool off, check the cold level then top it up if needed. Hope this helps. Good luck let me know how it goes.
Great thank you. I’ll give it a go and see what happens 👍
