Hi! I avoid using black, I mix my own with ultramarine blue and burnt sienna (about equal measures) green is mixed with variations of ultramarine blue/colbalt blue and cad yellow/yellow ochre and sometimes I even add a little pre mixed green like Sap green. Thank you! I did this in layers, focusing on my mid tones first then adding highlights and my darkest tones once each layer is dry! I’m in the process of designing my next painting, hopefully a seascape for CZcams :)

@@seanfear15 OH, ATHENS!!!!!!!!!!!! Be still my heart!! That is the city I want to visit most; but, sadly, I doubt I ever will. I have 4 rescue doggies from a litter I saved in 2015. They are 9 years old now and we have never been apart even for one night (except if someone was spending the night at the vet). What do you use to make pink? White and magenta just aren't cutting it for me. Thank you!

Thanks so much for watching! It’s just a large synthetic round - I mainly use ivory flats from Rosemary and Co, I get much more variation in my brushwork with these 😀

Thank you! Your workspace sounds like loads of fun! I used Liquin for years but when it came to using it with large paintings, I worked outside due to the fumes. Hope you’ve got a palette knife in there somewhere 😀

@@seanfear15 I built an outside studio leading out from my kitchen door, so it is open to the elements on two sides and it is rain proof. I have a rotating fan on at all times … No brushes for me, always use palette knives

Great question as I’ve spent ages researching - I use roughly the same amount of Liquin throughout each layer, and it’s actually below the recommended dosage.

Thank you so much! I used graphite for the initial sketch and then lightly sprayed it with a fixative then let it dry before I add oils 😃

@@seanfear15 interesting. A new technique I did not know yet.

@Nicole_luciniaart yeah! They say the pencil could raise throughout the oil painting over time if you don’t add a fixative to it, I have a few oil paintings from 5 years ago where I didn’t spray them and they seem OK until now, but only time will tell :)

It’s all about the pressure, angle and paint load when working with palette knives. It could be a good idea practicing with acrylic paint first, that’s what I did and it helped when it came to working with oils.

It depends on the size of the surface, most of the time, I like to use several different sizes ranging from small to large.
