I transcribe video game music and record myself performing it on the keyboard (a korg x50)
Original battle theme w/ Golden Sun soundfont
So I recently played through GS 1 and 2 for the first time in like 10 years, and got a powerful reminder of why I loved the series so much. I downloaded the ripped GBA soundfont as a sf2 file and thought it would be fun to use it in a project. It's not entirely in Sakuraba's style, but I wanted to do something a bit different and experimental, building on a sketch I had laying around from 2011.

Someone suggested using a Golden Sun soundfont, and I just couldn't resist going all out with pan flutes and delay. A bit sacrilegious, but it sounds pretty good :D

The eight little preludes and fugues, presumably not actually written by Bach, are relatively simple and fun pieces to play for a beginner. Thought I'd go for a brassy sound for this one.

Golden Sun - Palace theme (remake)

Thought it would be fun to do an "organ" arrangement of this track, which was the first one I recorded, back in 2010. I used a mixture of strings, brass, and woodwind sounds for the main part, the only addition is the solo flute and oboe (seen in the second frame)

This was another of my early recordings in desperate need of improvement. It got a bit rushed, but I think it's acceptable. Figured I would implement the organ pedals again for this one, allowing me to play up to three parts simultaneously :)

Looking back to my first recordings 8 years ago, it's a bit embarrassing how terrible the overall quality was. I still don't really know what I'm doing, but I dare to say this is a major improvement over the first one. Sadly, I don't have the time for any more of these right now. For the handful of GS fans who are still with me, hope you enjoy!

Here's my version of Uematsu's cool ragtime piece! I'm not a stranger to this style of music, so my left hand tackles the jumps relatively well. There still are some inaccuracies that bother me, but this is the best I can do right now :)

These pedals were originally part of an old organ that I inherited. The electronic components were deteriorating and the instrument eventually became unplayable, but thanks to a MBP25 bass pedal electronic kit, the pedals can be used as midi input for the keyboard!

This has to be one of the greatest battle themes out there. Love the rhythmic stuff in part 1 and of course that good old chromatic chord progression in part 3. Simple, but highly effective!

The way you move your hands playing this reminds me more of someone petting a very big cat or running your hand through hair than playing a piano and i love that. It looks very personal, if that makes sense.

The ending is perfect, cause it shows us all the Lighthouses and the lighthouse where the real Heroes from Golden Sun 1 Died, Sautros and Menardi (hopefully i spelled their names right)!!!
13 years later I’m watching this and I’m gonna try this one out with my teacher! Hoping I feel confident enough to share when I get it down, even to this day this is a spectacular performance of this song!
