    Hey, lovely to see my videos getting more and more popular now haha :) I agree that the Triangle should have stayed as it is, but at the same time, I'd have given it a number (maybe the 7), to allow easier identification for it. Also, I find it quite stupid that there is no more direct bus between Herne Bay and Whitstable. Yes, the train exists, absolutely, but it's quite a long walk away from both town centres and the bus provides this great convenient connection serving areas of both Herne Bay and Whitstable that are a long walk away from the train station. At the very least, IMO, extend the 401 to Herne Bay and the 601 to Whitstable.

    Here in Exeter I think a new station should be built at Honiton Road where the Avocet line crosses the A3015 on a bridge. This would create a 5 min walking distance connection with the Park & Ride next to the M5 junction (there are bus stops next to the bridge anyway so walking to the P&R wouldn't even be necessary for buses going via Heavitree). This would help relieve pressure off the busy 4 bus going to Exeter St Davids station as well as creating a new railway interchange outside the city centre.

    You know nothing about buses in the real world stagecoach obviously disagree with you otherwise they wouldn't be doing it. Presumably people aren't using at 15 minute intervals . The triangle branding looks crap and the buses recommended stagecoach don't ow. How about a compromise T 1-5 route thing still triangle shaped possibly with apart of the triangle network thing on them and using stagecoach gold buses. Would people use an express at the end of the day it's money company councils and public mix it together and you get a service and nobody ever thinks it perfect and integration with other transport doesn't work as buses and trains are in many places seperate as well

    Tonbridge-Redhill is an under-appreciated line, with some lovely scenery, particularly in the spring when all the hedges are 'iced' with early plum and blackthorn blossom. At one point it had a half-hourly service, courtesy of KCC, who wanted a link from the Medway towns to Gatwick. Covid and council cuts did for that, but I do think it could be part of a more frequent 'Medway Metro', maybe all the way from Sheerness to Gatwick, via Maidstone and Paddock Wood, giving easy connections to Croydon, Tunbridge Wells, and Gravesend/Bluewater. Lots of attractions en-route, too, if someone put on some connecting bus services: Chartwell, plus Hever and Chiddingstone castles (from Edenbridge); Penshurst Place, Tonbridge castle, Paddock Wood/Beltring hop farm; Yalding lock and village; West Farleigh station; Maidstone carriage museum and archbishop's palace; Allington lock and castle (needs a new station); Aylesford village and friary; Snodland (Kent's largest village); Rochester castle; Chatham Dockyard; Sittingbourne steam railway, Isle of Sheppey ...

    Great video - your arguments are prety persuasive! My ideas are to make the London Overground network more effective: at present, the OG 'loop' connects with many of the radial lines to/from central London, but there are some 'misses', and I suggest: (1) Bermondsey, linking the OG Windrush to the SE suburban lines via Greenwich, Lewisham and Grove Park - this could enable the OG New X branch to be closed and higher frequencies put on the other Windrush branches ; (2) Loughborough Junction high-level, Windrush to Thameslink Sutton branch; (3) Brixton high-level (no further comment needed!); (4) Acton (south of S.Acton station), Mildmay Richmond branch (and W.London Orbital, when it arrives) to the District and Piccadilly lines; (5) Old Oak Common - hopefully they are going to build platforms on both Mildmay branches, linking to the new GWML/Elizabeth line station; (6) some way of linking the Mildmay line with the Northern line Hampstead branch (ideas on a postcard, please); and finally (7) Tuffnel Park, Northern line Barnet branch to the Suffragette line (Goblin).

  • @ricktownend9144
    @ricktownend9144 Před 27 dny

    It's certainly not a comfortable station, and it looks unloved. It's lonely - not well used because the service (every 15 minutes for much of the day) is relatively poor. The 38 bus from near the station is every 5 minutes, direct to the heart of the west end. A tube-level frequency would transform usage - as it has on the Croydon and Manchester trams, and the DLR. You can beat the 38 by going to Highbury & Islington and changing to the Victoria line; more trains would encourage people to do that. Maybe the GN&City line as a whole could be give a new purpose by extending it from Moorgate - my suggestion would be via Mansion House (with links also to the Waterloo & City, and the Central line bank platforms), the Globe theatre and then London Bridge to continue on the Peckham Rye lines (lots of connections there) so linking up Enfield, Potters Bar and Alexandra Palace in the north to Streatham, Croydon, Crystal Palace and Beckenham in the south - effectively a new tube (or perhaps Overground) line. Also, it might be expensive to rebuild Old Street or Moorgate to give cross-platform interchange with the Northern line, but it would really improve the passenger experience!

  • @ASlowKiwi1
    @ASlowKiwi1 Před měsícem

    I think it is a waste of time and money having two routes operate what used to be one full route. Decreasing the frequency also makes the buses a lot more busier (even if they weren't already). The chances of connecting with each bus, depending which direction you go, is also just annoying. It wastes everyone's time.

  • @MannyAntipov
    @MannyAntipov Před měsícem

    It seems that Stagecoach has been doing away with route branding ever since their corporate reshaping in 2020. Here in Stagecoach South territory we had a number of bus routes that had been given names rather than numbers, such as the Kite (Aldershot-Guildford), YoYo (Farnborough-Prospect Estate) and Link (Basingstoke-Newbury), after a larger exercise in branding bus routes after children's toys in the 2000s. Those that have stayed have been slowly faded away over the past few years now they've been diluted into the new livery, with the names recently reverting to numbers (20, 6 and 32 respectively) which isn't as memorable. On your point regarding bus-train integration, I'd argue there is an element of ticketing being available for both modes, this coming in the form of Plusbus - a day ticket for bus travel at the area of the destination station. However, this can only be bought from an origin station, so it can't be bought on a bus. There is also little publicity about its existence, so it's hardly surprising when bus drivers are confused with me showing the Plusbus to them. There are also certain locations where every effort is gone into promoting dual-mode transport, be it displaying bus timetable leaflets in the station concourse or showing train times on the next-stop digital displays throughout an area, but it's hit or miss. Above all, an excellent video. (Apologies for the very long comment!)

  • @AJSAN1971
    @AJSAN1971 Před měsícem

    Whilst your suggestions are all laudable they do have one thing in common, cost. Cost eats into profits. Electric buses are lovely but they are way more expensive than a diesel powered one, they also have limited range which would have to be incorporated into the timetable (journeys may have to be shortened to get the vehicles onto charge points). Inter company availability of tickets is a nightmare to organise, I've just finished (as part of a team) almost a year of negotiations with another bus operator so we can accept each others tickets. Have you sent this video directly to Stagecoach? I would and also Kent County Council (do they help financially with the service?). Good luck.

    • @JezzTransport
      @JezzTransport Před měsícem

      While the improvements would be costly, it's worth it as a good service would actually encourage people to use it. I am a big subscriber to the "build it well and they will come" mentality. The ticketing system would be implemented at a national level so it's not limited to the triangle but I just felt I had to mention it Sadly sending it to KCC or CCC would have little to no impact on bus services due to restrictions in bus deregulation rules.

    • @AJSAN1971
      @AJSAN1971 Před měsícem

      Both KCC and CCC are able to offer financial support to operators to provide socially necessary but loss making journeys on otherwise commercial journeys. I don't think a nationwide, all mode ticketing scheme, whilst a laudable idea, would ever be possible without nationalisation of the entire transport network and even then there would be major issues with "divvying up" the takings.

    You make some good points, but you have overlooked what research has shown. There are very few through passengers from Ashford to Brighton. The most popular destination is Eastbourne. There is not much of a case for re-opening the line to Dungeness as there would be too few passengers. As regards the Javelin, under all the rules and regulation of transport, the railways are not allowed to deliberately take passengers the long way around for the purpose of charging more. That means the fare on the Javelin Train from Hastings via Ashford to St Pancras could not cost more than to Victoria or Charing X. There is a safety restriction on the installation of new 3rd rail electrification, so it would have to be catenary which is more expensive and cannot be funded. Thanks for uploading.

    • @JezzTransport
      @JezzTransport Před 2 měsíci

      Maybe more people would use the train along the south coast if service was better designed to do this. Same thing for reopening the dungeness line, If we build some well designed and thoughtful TOD around the station then it will make the reopening worth it. With regards to the HS1 surcharge I would say that the price should not be any more than going the legacy route and the Surcharge should be abolished and service should be brought up to meet demand rather than reducing demand to meet service, especially when HS1 is underutilised with a lot of room for more services to run (currently HS1 has 5 trains an hour when it was designed to handle 16)

    • @AllensTrains
      @AllensTrains Před 2 měsíci

      @@JezzTransport We have been all around this issue with the government. We can't run a Javelin train on the Marsh link line in the foreseeable future. Firstly, the line would need to be electrified with catenary, and secondly a new track formation would have to be constructed at Ashford to allow trains from Hastings to cross to the HS1.

  • @johnHippisley
    @johnHippisley Před 3 měsíci

    It's been looked at but because it's on a flood plain that floods, the whole station would have to be elevated along with a car park, and as it's designated as a SSI, it's unlikely it will ever get passed by planning whoever is in charge politically! I suggested back in the 1990's it was a no brainer, reducing traffic pollution caused by Sturry Crossing and Cantering West Station as traffic all over the city comes to a standstill waiting for the trains. The costs would be expensive too and links to the city centre would create more bus journeys. I included in my costed proposals two alternative options one was a cable car which would provide incredible views of the city without blocking views of residential property or a maglev monorail to take people in and out of the city to the Bus Station. Both solutions worked out cheaper than off slips and by-pass options currently under consideration by KCC and Uk Gov! A cable car to the UKC would also take most of the traffic off the existing roads? Costs have gone up significantly since I costed it but still worth considering, as it says in the video Thanet Parkway is proving popular, maybe the risks and costs make it prohibitively impossible!

    • @JezzTransport
      @JezzTransport Před 3 měsíci

      I think the hardest part would be the car park which I think is less of a priority when the park and ride is quite close and the main reason for it is for interchange, park and ride and a station for local people is a secondary function (although it is important that it does this). The idea of a monorail or cable car sounds like a bit of a gimmick when a bus, trolleybus or tram would do an equally good job. I might do a video on reopening the crab and winkle which would also act as a better way to connect the university

Re connect Matlock and Buxton . I've speculated myself on the Stansted-Luton- Milton Keynes route (particularly using what is available of the old trackbed from Luton (and originally Hertford) to Leighton Buzzard... though within Luton and Dunstable that trackbed is unavailable having been converted into a guided busway, so my instinct is to instead skirt the south side of both towns and try to connect with the Midland main line at Luton airport parkway Beyond that, I'd also considered reinstating the former line from Braintree to Bishop's Stortford (but diverting it into Stansted) Around Buckinghamshire, Bedfordshire and Northamptonshire there is plenty of potential, but a lot of that would be for entire new lines rather than just new stations on existing lines to serve substantial towns like Daventry, Rushden, Brackley, Buckingham and Towcester while also addressing the lack of east-west routes by railin the region (outside the Marston Vale line and (once completed) the route from Bletchley to Bicester/Oxford)

    I think that's a pretty ambitious upgrade programme, but it's good to aim high. Electrification seems like the most obvious infrastructure upgrade - this would provide greater capacity on Marshlink, and make through running beyond Ashford and Hastings a lot easier. There would also be the benefit of newer trains for Marshlink, and releasing the 171s for use elsewhere in the country.

    During the mid 2000's, the administration planned to renovate the whole network in Mallorca by electrifying all lines and bought new rail stock. Amongst them, this tram was supposed to be used in a new tram line in Manacor-Artà. When the 2008 crisis hit, everything came to a complete stop (electrification didn't finish until a few years ago) and the whole tram line got axed. Since they already had the stock for it, they decided to use it as extra muscle during peak hours/holidays, doing express services as well as low demand services.

    Nice one - I didn't know the Soller trains need to run round. Also it's curious that the horn is very similar to those on London Underground trains.

    Great video, I've subscribed! I also visited Thanet Parkway Station recently and while I'm pleased to see a new railway station opened. I was disappointed with the lack of service and the access to the village is also pretty terrible.
