I really like the art style and animation. I just wish all the characters weren't so ugly too look at. But like, the background, lighting, and a lot of the shots look really good. I legit didn't even know this was a reboot though, this has nothing to do with the original. More than most "reboots" do

The animation style was also just sloppy too. I feel like shows like the Boondocks/even the Proud Family set the bar for black animated shows, and this show had REALLY silted/lazy animation

It’s made for hate-watching. We live in a reality where it’s actually profitable to make shows that are supposed to be hated by people, because people watch it and then tell everyone how bad it is, and so more people check it out.

Good shows like The Boondocks, the Venture Bros and Morel Orel should have shown animators that you need to do better.

I can’t even lie, watching this video made me really want to watch this show. I saw that a reboot of some show that I never watched came out on Netflix and I started seeing videos come out about it saying it was bad (I didn’t watch any videos, but it says that it was bad in the thumbnail). When I got to this video I finally cracked and wanted to find out what was so bad about this new show. Nothing apparently? Ok, let me backtrack a little because I don’t want to undermine your video as I did enjoy it a ton and can understand some of your points. This is not a good reboot, period. Without even watching good times I can say that this is very obviously not a good reboot, and I assume it was an original show that the network forced the good times IP onto. That being said, when you said that you didn’t know who this ow was for I would massively have to disagree with your sentiment that it is for no one, for it seems to be aiming for a demographic that wants a more raunchy proud family. You were describing the episode premises and when I heard them it sounded, well, interesting? It sounds like a good idea to have a modern day show tackle some of the struggles of lower class families. Why listening to you talk I was also watching the footage. I know that you said that the animation wasn’t good (and maybe as an animator myself and I’m a little biased) but this show looks genuinely incredible! All the character designs are visually appealing and give out a lot of personality. Like, I don’t even know what to say more about it, it’s like a spiderverse take on the animation style of rise of the teenage mutant ninja turtles, and I’m kind of in awe? In conclusion, I liked your video, but I guess it kind of convinced me the opposite of what you were trying to convey. Sorry

Can I just say that I've never actually seen the original. Watched this and just went "what the fuck is going on anywhere" like nothing is related to anything. They do a fucking Elon musk episode and I just stared like.. does Elon have anything to do with what the premise of the show is

I don't know about this show. I watched the entire series and I kind of see why people think it's bad. It is bad, trust me. And they shouldn't have did that to original Good Times. But as I was watching it, I noticed this: The show is bad to let the bad know how bad they are doing. They referring to the black community. The show actually has some good messages like the tampon girlies vs the pads girlies. And how past generations stick to the rules which are different in a new generation. I don't know how to interpret this show but I took a quick analysis on it and I can actually see why the show is bad. It's to let the community know how bad these stereotypes are and how we're living up to them without even knowing.

Sometimes a show gets made that you can’t figure out how it gets that far into production. Especially with animation, where it takes a while to make. The tone doesn’t fit. It’d be one thing to put tomfoolery and minstrelsy like this into a reboot of the PJ’s, but Good Times was never about absurdist high concept. Even if it were done well these would be odd choices.

i felt the exact same way about the show alienating any and all audiences. i've never watched the original Good Times and didn't even know it was based on a real-life sitcom. there are certain moments in some of the episodes where the art style they were trying to go for really shines, and i really wish they kept doing that and conceptualized the show into being its own thing instead of claiming to be a franchise it has literally nothing to do with. also, i really, really hated the stereotyping in the show. even shows like Family Guy that do stereotyping for a living are bad enough on their own, but this just felt super distasteful

9:24 the last few episodes this season seemed like video game side missions. Disappointing to say the least to those who have followed the real life story.

The original Good Times was a look at how a Black family functions in the suburbs and the Struggles and development of that through Comedy. Netflix Good Times is trying to be Family Guy but Black. with Animation style indistinguishable to every Adult Animation made since Family Guy.

White kid growing up when the original Good Times ran. John Amos was a father figure to me. A real alpha dog. Gentle giant. Great role model for boys of all races to look up to. The only thing that didn't ring true about the show was, like almost all t.v. shows, the lack of family resemblance between the parents and the kids. That part didn't really fly, unless they were all adopted, and that wasn't part of the plot. Am I the only one who never bought Jimmy Walker as John Amos's son? It would've been a better show if the sons were more like their father, and learning how to be strong without being an asshole, which was the energy I always got from Amos, in everything he ever acted in. Anyway, thinks for sparing me ever wasting time on the show. I'd probably watch an episode or two out of nostalgia.

Well X-Men 97 came out around the same time and it's one of the greatest animated shows ever while also being a sequel series. Guess the universe had to balance it out with this.

Am i the only that thinks it doesnt look that bad? It looks like a slightly more crude french animation ive seen, and the low frames doesnt really bother me. I havent watched the show so i dont know about the story, but there shows that look worse
