I have to quibble with the halo not saving Petersen's life. What killed Ronnie was a delay in treatment, which is believed to have led to the conditions of him developing a fat embolism. The delay was caused by the concerns over the other driver who, if fine, would mean Petersen would be treated first, and may well have lived.

As a brazilian, i have mixed feelings about Nelson Piquet. He's got a fantastic racing carreer, a very interesting history about how he managed to reach F1 without approval of his family. The man is a living legend, one of the most clever and talented racing drivers that ever lived, but his statements are unnaceptable, so i can't say i'm a fan. The worst of all is that many of his bad behavior are completely pointless, directed against people who never said or did anything against him. Such a shame.

The halo has saved the life of Roman Grosjean, perhaps Fernando Alonso, and is a positive step in safety. As often happens a tragic death happens that leads to innovation like the halo. Safety is in a decent place in F1, major steps are made after tragedies such as Senna’s death, recently Jules Bianchi.
