    I used to be okay with a messy back but I'm more mindful because I really don't like wasting thread, if I can help it! I'm still moderately messy, definitely could never call my work the same on the front as the back.

    Silly question as I’m trying to get into embroidery- if you’re using that transparent paper, after you’re done embroidering, wouldn’t you not feel the fabric as the paper is on top of it?

    • @crewelghoul
      @crewelghoul Před 9 dny

      Not silly at all! The transparent paper is actually water soluble! So you can remove it and you'll just have the fabric. The one thing I like to recommend if you use it though is to soak the embroidery in a dish of water for a few minutes, otherwise some of the stabilizer can act kind of like glue and make the fabric and embroidery stiff. :)

    Thank you. I learned something wicked cool and extremely useful from you in this video. that lil tomato has a USE? well, of course it does! That's what you reminded me: things we think are only for decoration are often valuable tools in cool packaging. Find the use. You're a star. Thank you. And for those with the followup question: "Emery, or corundite, is a dark granular rock used to make an abrasive powder." two things I learned today so far. too cool.

    Hi your videos are so helpful. I Just started embroidery. Is it ok to use the cheaper polyester thread? Or only dmc?

    • @crewelghoul
      @crewelghoul Před 9 dny

      Hey there! I'm so glad you've found them helpful. DMC is definitely not necessary, but I'd recommend finding a cotton floss instead of polyester because it's a lot easier to work with and learn with! You can find a lot of generic threads at most chain craft stores and I believe most of them are totally fine to start with. :)

    Re: copyright. If you add your own spin on some design, ie embroider on top, then it is not copyright infringement, wether licenced or not. What you are not allowed to do is say frame a piece of unadulterated fabric , and sign your name to it. If you upholster a chair amd say oh this is ( name of designer) it is correct. But if you do the same amd claim it is your own design then it is a breach. I worked at a patents office so I guess this law is generally true worldwide.

    I'm very new to this kind of embroidery. Is it ok to use a iron on pelon interfacing on the back of a T-shirt before starting the project? Also, do I need a stabilizer on the back AND the wash away stabilizer on the front on a thin T-shirt?

    • @crewelghoul
      @crewelghoul Před 9 dny

      I don't have any experience with iron on interfacing, I'd try it on a piece of scrap fabric first to make sure you're able to easily stitch through it. And it wouldn't hurt to have stabilizer on the back and the wash away on the front especially for fabrics that are thin and stretchy!
