Cyberthon VI: VAT
After the success of Spectrum, the Cyberthon artists were invited by Telstra to create a submission for an exhibition called The Edge, to be displayed at the Telstra Corporate Center on Exhibition Street. This demo was presented to Telstra at an annual meeting held at Dallas Brooks Hall.
The demo shows a CGI artists impression of the proposed ‘The Edge exhibition’ space as well as a simulation of the media submission process via the interactive Cyberthon VAT (V=Video, A=Audio, T=Text) porthole created using Deluxe Paint, with presentation edited in Scala on an Amiga 2000.
Animation loops that appear in simulated submission section were created by Ian Haig, Cyber Dada (Troy Innocent and Dale Nason), Don’t Shoot the Messenger (Steve Middleton & Attillio Gangemi), Tekno Mandala (Adem Jaffers), Julian Wong, Mish Fingers (Misha Hollenbach), Derek Shiel, Martine Corompt, and Force Fed (Stuart McCormick). Video camera footage was shot by Dale Nason from the back of a Chris Wrights moving van. 35mm still photographs were taken by Tao Wiess. Audio track was mixed by DJ Visitor (Andrew Till).
This work is part of the Cyberthon Archive, generously donated to ACMI by Adem Jaffers.

Great movie film of parade. Was it 8m or 16m?. My father took similar footage of the 1964 parade with a colour 8m Fuji movie camera
Very nice. Thanks.❤
To the a frame check the bolts right frame welding those . Bounce like that beach ball through every storm. Solid land.😮*
there was a heidelberg track - gone for the olympics = some plaques around some heidelberg west shopping centre showing racing cars on dirt 1952?
•• Cerimônia de Abertura dos Jogos Olímpicos de Melbourne em 1956. 18 / 07 / 2024.
Came across this by accident. I was there! On day 3, as a 10 yo who had never seen tennis played before. It was an instant love story. Loved Lew Hoad but Ken Rosewall was and remained my favourite. I was delighted to see him amongst the elite spectators at the recent Wimbledon final.
Thank you for uploading this treasure of an abstract animation, but... Isn't the audio 15 seconds delayed?
Before Title IX, boys-only PE classes worked up such a sweat that everybody showered before returning to class
Great video. Many thanks....
Roberta Flack!
This is the UK version.
Says, "For the girls ... basketball" Shows girls playing netball
Wow. Just a bit before my time. Steam trains were gone by then. Foys closed down in 1967.
Boring and shit story, wonder why I had this bookmarked.
VERY interesting indeed! Good to compare the buildings with google maps today. Most of them are long gone. Other items, Jack Perry (zig and zag) was outed after sexual assault accusations in coming years.
I’m finding these reels most interesting and I recognise some of the locations. However wish someone could have done some editing and introduced captions to identify places and what was going on. Narration would be even better. Great work by the volunteers.
Remote controlled Jindivick I knew about but Canberra and Meteor, that was bold. Black Knight and Blue Streak were successful projects, Labor politicians felt differently and scraped it along with TSR2 but Skylark went on to be a very successful platform.
Hats off to the hard work of these volunteers. I was aged about seven when this was being done. I remember well those days lopping up big trees before chainsaws.
Yes. Good Old Melbourne Town. It had to be Pre- War. You never gave the year.
Look at the size of the band from HMAS Cerberus ! The band today is probably about a third smaller.
My Grandfather Rocky worked at the docs for years.
this is the railway i knew and worked on pity what's shown is all gone a real railway shown here
To cold
It’s absolutely incredible how he explains how much work goes into designing a game and it’s absolutely incredible to think how much content gets cut due to limits and deadlines, makes me wonder how much different shadow of the colossus would have been if they could have finished everything they wanted.
Great to see the main street before the East Gippsland Shire Council ripped out the established shade trees and replaced them with useless small ornamental trees. Another waste of money from a Shire that despises large deciduous shade trees in its towns … 😵
Wow, such an interesting video. Didn’t know Holmesglen looked like this back in the old days, the current one that we have to do this day looks more modern compared to this one
Love the use of safety squints!
Ah, the days when we actually owned and operated our own ships!
Wow. I was there that day. One of the thousands of kids sitting at the front. I miss old Melbourne
Regardless of it being 1956, the players were striking the ball with great power, skill and accuracy. Thanks for this.
Pity they forgot to include a railway line.
Kojima is an actual certified artistic and technical genius. Unparalleled in his field. Nothing is and will ever be like him.
Remember watching this on telly when skiving off school, certainly does bring back memories 👍
Not much happening there that would be allowed today, great viewing.
Now the site of Holmesglen TAFE, it was actually the Commonwealth Tank Factory during WW2, they built tanks there for the Australian Army.
These problems are still present in Melbourne in 2024. Uncontrolled urban sprawl with inadequate infrastructure is the neverending problem here.
@ACMI Collection - The building under construction at the start isn't the Gas & Fuel towers. And Northland Shopping Centre isn't in the film, either - it's Chadstone. Northland hadn't yet been built...
What year is this?
Port of China now, what stupid Drongo allowed that to happen, total disgrace to all Australians,Traitors in our own Government.you will be sorry in the long run for this disgrace.
This was Hoads best year as a player as he won the first 3 slams only to be thwarted by Kenny at Forest Hills to stop his grand slam quest. Rosewall also prevented Trabert from winning a grand slam as well.
The 1952 1st edition is a better film and available at the Library of Congress.
Yes, it has some drawbacks, though. the focal lad is obviously middle class, with access to the hot water, clean clothes, grooming aids that many might have lacked in 1950. And the shot of his lovely ass--surprising in the 1950s--is certainly pleasanter thn this poor chumps general presentation.
I love this video, John Whitney was a genius. Please, is this video in the public domain? Can I use it for a music video project free from copyright?

how not to cut a melon ....
OH&S nightmare! some of the guys look like they are stoned. #1 Lesson to be learnt, especially if you know it's being filmed... DO NOT strip down to only your baggy white and do the navy gig 4:02 because when you fall or sit down.. it will look like you shat yourself 5:16
It's crazy Im 33yrs old have eaten countless amounts of goats and sheep. I lived in the middle east for about a decade, in one of the hottest places on earth, hell I've slaughtered and skinned over 50 sheep and goat myself, and I'm just learning what fly strike is lol
