Nope. This is the 10th video (so far) how to fix the hinge on the door FRAME side. Everyone knows this fix because the frame is a solid piece of wood. Why not show the difficult fix on the actual DOOR side where the door is hollow inside? I've used those plastic drywall screw insets to varying, sometimes lasting, sometimes temporary success but I would like to know a more professional, longer lasting fix for HOLLOW door holes that have no backing to put dowels or toothpicks into. Not solid door frames. That's easy. Please. Where are the real fix-it men?

  • @Misiracaltudamecekas-qw8xo

@@MakingHomeBetter thanks for replying. I understand, it’s just questions I have before choosing type of color and protection. I want it to look good in 10 years too and it has to be easy to apply more or remove old stain. There actually are products for removing what we call lasyr paint (glaze) here in Sweden. The only problem is that it will damage my plastic roof. I have to keep looking. I guess some kind of oil based stain is the easiest even though it will get darker every year you apply it.

For anyone making firepits, you need vents. This is an explosion waiting to happen if there is a gas leak. So many CZcamsrs making these firepits and no vents at all. Propane needs vents as low as possible and cross wind placement and natural gas needs at top. Vents!!!

    • @MakingHomeBetter

@@MakingHomeBetter you have a natural gas connection so in your case, your vents should be near the top, not the bottom. For Propane, since Propane is heavier than air, it will sink to the bottom so vents should be at bottom.

By notching the vertical beams and then putting horizontal beams you have load bearing ALL the way to the ground. Thats STRONG! I see a lot of videos where people attach horizontal beams/rafters to vertical posts with 2 bolts so all the weight is being held on those 2 bolts which is crazy cause the bolt can shear off. In your structure the weight of horizontal beams is being carried by the solid wood contained in the vertical beam all the way to the ground. Now maybe should put polycarbonate roofing on top to potect from rain. Maybe solar panels too? I had whole family come out Fathers day to initially help me get veticals in place yes great having family help!

Your post bases seem to be below the grade of your pavers. Wouldn’t that cause water to pool in that area? I’m doing a similar project and trying to figure out where I want to set level of my post bases and concrete

It was or is a concern. However, since the post base keeps the beam half an inch higher than the ground, my feeling was that it should be fine.

That is a great looking fire pit, I went over the material list and I coudn't find what tile you used for the sides of the box. Also, what happened to the rebar in the video? It was there while you were marking it off to cut it and then it wasn't in the frame when you started pouring the concrete in the mold.

Thank You. The tiles are stone tiles I picked up at a local store. The rbar is embedded in the concrete. It was placed at about three quarters of the way up. Just didn't make it on the video.

Great construction! One question: Did you use the exterior siding also on the sides that are protected by the house wall? I want to install it in a place where only the front will be visible and that will save material & cost. Or what did you use to protect those sides? Thanks!

No, siding was not used on the sides facing the house structure. I just painted these walls with an exterior paint before assembling.
