We have to give it to the guy: he had balls of steel. The way he turns his back to two huge bears at the end takes guts. What an ending with this song. This documentary is a gut wrenching masterpiece
Obviously the bears and land didn't need looking after. Hate it for guy and worse for the girl but dang that was pretty insane. He got way too comfortable around a dangerous wild animal.
Don’t forget about how everyone including specialist warned this man not to go. They said, if you are intent on going and not listen to us, than take some precaution and use safety measures but he refused. He said he and the bears had a connection/understanding. I would rather become unalive then hurt a bear, he got his wish.💁🏽♀️
For me it's when he talks about 'the work' being 'successful' and 'protecting this land'. Did he genuinely think he was doing something useful? Guy camped and filmed a load of bears, hardly stopped poaching or any rural crimes being committed. Incredible footage of bears, but considering the amount of retakes he took of himself running along bushes and talking to the camera and think this was more for Timothy's sake than the bears 🤷♂️
He needed some psychiatric med and a less lethal activity to fulfill his life. As an alcoholic myself i understand his struggle with addiction and the urge to give your life a meaning. He did what he felt right and i give all the credit to that, for Amie was a true tragedy.
I don’t think it has to be an all or nothing - that Timothy was deluded and never should have been there. He survived 13 seasons so he was doing something right. His death comes down to being at the wrong place at the wrong time with the wrong bear, a statistical likelihood given his lifestyle. Saying he’d been lucky for 13 years is like saying someone who gets hit by a car crossing the street got lucky to have survived 40 years of not being hit by a car whilst living among cars.
This is the most sensible comment I've found on videos about Timothy. 13 years is a fucking long time, and he has (as the footage shown) been face to face with the grizzly's, and come out alive. Regardless of views on his reckless abandon, he had to have a modicum of knowledge of where his was, and what he was dealing with to make it over a decade intact. The various factors such as, staying late in the season, the old bear not having food for hibernation, the storm passing over all contributed to his demise. Like you mentioned, very possible in the field of literally hanging out with bears.
He knew how to live with the bears its just a Grizzly bear only needs to attack you once, it was inevitable it was going to happen but he kept it from happening for a very impressive amount of time
