Holds more oil too!!
Don't stop! I like ur videos! Everybody knows that!!
Thank you!🙏
Drilling and pinning
Duh, yeah.
Built in obsolescence....
Common sense, not so common.
you only need 3 threads engaged to have full strength ive never had a helicoil fail
Always great tips Danny.👍👍💯
Appreciate it!
👍🏽😎
Today, the pros use coatings and tighten the clearances. The coatings absorb the oil to dampen the piston rocking. If knurling were the answer, why don't the manufacturers do it? You are fifty years in the past.
We most definitely do, I never said this is what we do to new pistons or a new build. The title does say this is what Smokey used to do. If tightening up the clearance to keep the piston from rocking didn’t work why do all the manufacturers do it. We learn from the pass. #Smokeybelongs
RIP chunk of wood.
What about the flex-hone brushes? Whould they be an alternative ?
They are ok for finishing and or just removing a bit. But the guide has to be straight no taper in it.
I do know quite a lot about engines but I didn't know this. You just keep making these videos all you like. Bravo!
Thank you very much!
I put my shims in the bottom of the spring cup instead of underneath it because I didn’t see any way of keeping them in place otherwise. Did I do it wrong? Mine weren’t as wide as those (used Howard’s shims). The fit perfectly in the spring cup and were about as wide as the spring.
That’s ok! 👍
7 thou is a shi7 ton.
They need to get over themselves😡.
Thank you!
@@MrDanielSoliz you're welcome.
I agree with your thinking Danny. Get the package, bundle deal. Upgrade what you need. Bare heads are extremely expensive. Have a great day.👍🇺🇸💯
Sounds like my medical treatments😢
Tip of the day: Don’t use heli-coils for things like this- the alternatives cost the same amount but work 10x better.. they fail at a fraction of the original spec- emergency only😅 things like ez loc are better if your ez-coil level lazy , if can find the long(deep) ones but I recommend some called ‘timecert’ I think it is? You just cut to depth and they come with a chamfered neck and a installation tool to sit perfectly flush
Thank great information tip....😮😂😂 THANK YOU
Thank you!🙏
I love ur tips and my wife loves mine happy monday!
😂😂😂
😳.
Know-it-alls can burn. I don't know anything about engine builds and it both scares and fascinates me. AND, if they already know it all, why are they watching "tip of the day" vids anyway? Shouldn't they be making their own?
Thank you!🙌

They sell lunch specials. 🤭
Good tip! Same is also true for some suspension refresh packages. Doing struts on my wagon right now in fact. 😅
Right on!
Awesome tip. Much appreciated, keep the videos coming. 👍
Thank you.
Hahaha we already know that lmao
You “ may” know this but don’t say we. Read the comments. Not everybody knows what you may know.
The serrations are to hold try to stop the spring from spinning as was explained to me
That’s patented by VSI to keep the spring cool. We what the spring and valve to rotate.
How many of these are actually still around🤔?
There’s lot’s still around and probably be around for ever.
@@MrDanielSoliz 🤔. Not sure about that. It's near impossible to find either a 351 Cleveland or a 460 that they not wanting war prices for if at all.
The reason it works so well is it allows for a thicker film of oil to build up on the Piston skirts
Actually, it is because the grooves and valleys in the knurling retain oil. The right way to do this is to use a plateau cylinder bore finish, thin rings and tight pistons in the bore. coatings.czcams.com/video/M9UTOUZOD2E/video.html
Good info 🙏
How do you pull the rocker studs out my good Sir, and how do you remove the studs out of an aluminum head without destroying them
The studs on all aluminum head screw in, now on cast iron you put a bunch of spacers and use a nut to tighten down and then start pulling the stud up and out.
Yes freeze the seat. I just installed bushings like that
Trying to understand how this works. Does the knurling help block oil from reaching the rings?
The knurling does two things it holds oil and that lets you run a tighter piston to wall clearance which keeps the piston from rocking, keeping the ring end gap tighter. Less blow by, making more power.
this is why i dont drive chev or holden.. there stuk in 1940.. garbage..
Did the knurls caused any scuffing on the cylinders,o can't see how it wouldn't?
No not at all. Just tightens up the cylinder to piston clearance.
Can also use antifreeze.
Antifreeze is way too thick, you need something very thin.
@@MrDanielSoliz what I meant was , use water with just enough anti freeze to give it colouring.
Water is also to thick, you need something very thin. Rubbing alcohol with food coloring would work. Something thin like gas but not flammable.
Yup junk from the factory
Fabrication takes lots of time, but sometimes it's just worth it
Very cool

I love fabrication.
@@MrDanielSoliz I would too if I had the correct equipment😒.
I guess the one way trap door went bye-bye😅
Yes, definitely would of liked to have added one.
Noice job!
So when are they using them on F1 cars or dragsters? They not !
Wow many F1 engines have you seen from the inside?
