XR724 Lightning F6
United Kingdom
Registrace 23. 11. 2023
Follow the restoration of English Electric Lightning XR724 at Ex-RAF Binbrook.
From delivery in July 1992, she has been mostly outside enduring the tough winter conditions at RAF Binbrook, until recently when we have erected a purpose built shelter to protect her and us while we bring her back to life.
Her Rolls Royce Avon engines will once again reverberate against the old hangars of RAF Binbrook!

This is a unique opportunity to visit the legendary Lightning Room in the home of Charles Ross, The Chairman of the Lightning Association.
This is definitely a hidden gem in the Lightning world and I can attest to it's interest to Lightning lovers.

Amazing footage can't wait to see it for real at the weekend
Hey you Guys, do I need to book in advance or can turn up on sat, for the open day? Thanks😊
I'm afraid you're a little late to the party. Tickets sold out a few days ago with no entry on the gate due to numbers. There will be other events advertised later on.
@@XR724LightningF6 Roger Roger. I'll keep my eyes peeled👍
Thanks team another successful milestone achieved. Keep up the great work
Sweet music, congratulations to all involved in this magnificent endeavour.
Just lovely, well done you chaps.
The English Electric Lightning will always be Britains best interceptor of all time. A big Thank you to you guys keeping her legend alive.
Excellent 👍
Good to see you getting some coverage on the telly, however your quest for Cold War authenticity is going too far by copying the Russians unsuccessfull attempt to protect their with tires !. Best (Navy) Ps please no A I Attenborough he is everywhere and you will loose subs. Lets hear Josh Mortimer he's a natural spokesman (insert preferred pronoun) Thanks

HI HO SILVER LIGHTNING 😁 The Song really became the Theme for the Lightning
We may have told and listened many times to the same stories of our endeavours but to be together and remember good times is priceless and good for the soul. Well done all who are a part of this project. Lovely to see so many Boomers showing Gen Z what true friendship is. Best wishes and blues skies ahead. (Navy)
14:30 ... what a nice pilot suit that guy has. Really looking awesome ... now imagine this to be the height of cold war I was like 11 or 12 years old (1987/8 or so), I had my ZX Spectrum and then found the best flight simulator available at that time. Lightning Simulator. Up until then I did not know that lightning existed, but since then and till now I'm still captivated by this machine.

Sounds like it needs a drop of wd40
looks like a mig
The Russians wished it was a Mig
@@XR724LightningF6 agree, but have to agree the nose cone is Mig`ish
Looks ready for action! 👏
What a beautiful sound, well done chaps👍👍👍👍 Now she's getting somewhere, she's found her voice again❤
There will never be such a fast and agile aircraft as the English Electric Lightning ever again. Hopefully she will fly again to show the public how good she was compared to modern day interceptors.
There is one that will hopefully fly but not this one and not in the UK.
@@XR724LightningF6 There is one a T5 in South Africa ' Capetown Jets ' look up Incredible adventures. The EEL was an amazing machine that surpassed expectations as did the Canberra. My best wishes to XR724 ground crew you are doing a fantastic job and rightly proud of your achievements.
Which one and where?
@@bloodswettears234 facebook.com/AALOclub
Check out Anglo American lightning association there’s is nearing completion to return to the air in the future after a long rebuild. Regards Stephen Alberta Canada.
I saw one of these fly in Cape Town South Africa about 20 years ago. So impressive. Question: why is there a cone in the air intake?
It's a radar
That is a very good question. The cone as you call it contains the radar. The primary purpose however is to slow the intake air down to subsonic as the engine could not deal with it

Fantastic!
Be nice to see one fly again😂
Well done to everyone involved in this project, what an amazing achievement, 724 even looks good in primer. These Cold War Jets need to be “alive” and moving under their own power, unfortunately Binbrook’s historic runway was dug up and Bruntingthorpe’s runway succumbed to the dreaded car storage facility. Cold War history is just as important as other wars history, when it’s gone it’s gone. Keep up the good work at Binbrook.
You must be very proud of your achievement ,well done to all the hard work put in by you. This brings back fond memories of the last lightning airshow at a very wet binbrook. When the lightning display was on, it was with waiting for!Good luck for the future.
When i was little in the 1960s i saw these { i did not no what they were then } flying so high and so fast, i could only see the contrail. I built an Airfix model with the lightning bolt through the roundel. My joint favourite with the Spitfire mk 9
Awesome, great job. Before the houchin start caption came on I thought you'd converted it to a diesel
Heaven forbid LOL
The first plane with a vision of the future take take off performance, still the greatest climber, and the first jet that took my breath away. Many can recall the footage of the apparently sedantry looking take off, wheels up and then sits on its tail and goes near vertical till out of shot!
you good agents can all be really, realy proud of yourselves!...you started out, mind you, with a remarkable aircraft, but your success here is mighty!...be well, all!
Beware the FOD !! I was at Binbrook in 77. Greatest times ever 🎉
I worked on these at Binbrook. Best time of my life🎉
Magnificent !!! 👏👏👏👏
Congratulations to all concerned for bringing life back to XR724. I lived amongst Lightnings at Gutersloh for 2½ years, and they have always held a very special place in my heart🥰
Lightning Jet Noise The Sound of Freedom back at Binbrook !!!
I was an RAF airframe fitter during the cold war and loved these aircraft. It would be marvellous to see one on the display circuit again!
Truly something special. What an aircraft and such hard work Amazing well done
From the time when there was an airforce!

Fantastic work to all involved, can't wait to see more 👏👏👏👍
Over the moon to hear and see this! Well done all of you!
Well done; fantastic achievement and congratulations.
Brilliant to hear that sound again! As a former Eng Tech P in ASF and on XI Sqn, this sound and this jet were an important time in my life.
Fantastic achievement to all concerned...Thank you for bringing that sound back to the Lincolnshire countryside, you should all feel justifiably proud. Well done to you all!!!
Brilliant! Well done on an amazing job and congratulations to all involved 👍👏🇬🇧😀
Marvellous achievement, well done! Any chance you can tell us where you are and what it is you are hoping to achieve in the description of your videos?
We are based at the former RAF Binbrook and preserving this icon aircraft for future generations to enjoy.
I was proud to be an apprentice on this aircraft. Awesome speed frightening lightning untouchable in every aspect of air warfare
Great work and attention to detail, Gentlemen. The English Electric Lightning is still one of my favorite fighter/ interceptor aircraft of all time. Thanks for sharing your impressive work and engineering skills. 0:54
Congrats guys. Was that one engine only? Soon be seeing both engines alive & shooting flames out the rear in full reheat. Keep up the good work. Regards Stephen Alberta Canada.
Yes, at this time is was the No.1 (lower) engine that we ran as we have a few minor problems to fix on the No.2 but nothing major we can't fix in time.
Don't forget the story of RAF Wing Commander Taffy Holden who inadvertently engaged reheat and found himself airborne! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holden%27s_Lightning_flight
Well done. Congrats to all involved. Your dedication is to be applauded
That poor christmas tree...
That was windy weather, not the jet. However a few nettles did get singed. LOL
