1998 - 2003 Saab Transmission Guide / Swapping Saab Trannies? Start here 👆👆
We dive into some Saab transmission lore in this video. A brief overview of the key differences in the FM55 transmissions you’ll find in the Saab 900/9-3 ranging from years 1998-2003.
On top of that, we talk shift alignment. I was having a difficult time aligning mine and the issue was much simpler than I made it out to be.
Key details:
- different rear engine mount bracket location and design
- lower cover difference
- Different shifter support location
- Final drive
- differential/axle seal housing differences
- intermediate shaft I.e F25 vs F35
- alternative clutch pipe to OEM
- modifying your hub carrier for FM35 style axles and the abs bracket
- shift alignment procedure
With regards to the shift issue, I was specifically dealing with excessive side to side play. Essentially, I was getting too much movement without successfully being able to select certain gears. If I adjusted the shifter more to one side, I was able to catch 3rd through reverse while if I adjusted to the other side I could successfully catch 1-5 with no reverse.
The issue ended up being the linkage under the shifter assembly. An area I had already performed upgrades and maintenance. Learn from my mistakes and stop shifting like shit!
Thanks for checking out the video. This was the first with the mic. Hope the audio is better for you guys. Feel free to message me with any questions at all and thanks for checking this out. Hope this video helps someone who is also having shifter issues or just general transmission inquiries.
Stay Saabin’

1999-2003 Saab 9-3 Alternator Replacement
zhlédnutí 359Před 3 měsíci
On this lovely morning, with these loud a$$ birds chirping in the background, we discuss the alternator replacement procedure on the 1999-2003 Saab 9-3! Using my 1999 Viggen and spare b204L engine, I will guide you through the basic process of removing and installing your alternator. It will not be a full removal, but I am hoping with the car and spare engine as models, to give you a general id...
Saab Viggen Cold Air Intake Setup Overview
zhlédnutí 88Před 3 měsíci
This video is a response to an inquiry I had come through regarding the cold air intake set up on my 1999 Saab Viggen. This set up will be the same for nearly all T7 models from 1999 to 2003. The difference in T7 to T5 being mass airflow. The T5 versions will most notably have a Red direct ignition cassette versus the black on the T7 models. For the love of God, make sure not to over oil your f...

Thanks for the information bud! I had someone reach out the other day saying you could pull it from the top with the wheel turned all the way to the left! I’ve never done it that way, and I feel like on the B235 series it’s very cramped, but if others say it’s doable, I’m inclined to believe it. The 235 has that two piece style intake that pushes it back further towards the firewall which is what makes me a little bit doubtful of the clearance. Plus mine has all the braces in the way too. I’m sure on the 204 you have more room to do everything but personally, I get very frustrated when my hands get jammed in tight spaces and I can’t move them so I’d much rather prefer having some extra space. I have pulled starters from the top before, but never an alternator. Either way, appreciate the info!

Thank you for the video. Very informative, especially with the around view of the engine! I it out through the top. For me it made all the difference to remove the bracket holding the idling pulley and the belt tensioner. (Four M8 bolts) With that out of the way, I could effortlessly pull the alternator out through the top. Mine is a B205 engine however in a 2002 Saab 9-3 2.0T.

Saw you on reddit, love the cars, I personally prefer the klingons unpainted or something like bronze. My 02 9-5 aero is black with dark bronze (partly because it's been a while since I've cleaned them) klingons

Have those on the 9-5 :) Went with a anthracite grey color but with a satin finish so not glossy as hell. Very sharp imho. The BBS RK2’s on this viggen I did a two tone , grey inside and bronze outside lip. Love bronze! My other Saab I am painting purple and that will have bronze wheels ;) You an me are on the same wavelength bruva!

Pretty much! The only things I have not changed are the brake booster, brake master cylinder, and clutch master cylinder. Everything else has been replaced through the entire car. That and rebuilding these axles specifically is a pain. Have to Frankenstein some other axles parts together to rejuvenate these but that’s a fight for another day.

  • @freedom-fighter-against-Terney

Be patient with it bro. God has a purpose of everything. Step back about 10 feet to a deep breath and think aboutve forward. Sometimes you need to think about it for a couple hours. Get away, go at a lake. Go to the woods and just meditate on it. Pray to God. That's the number one thought for me and I've always had an answer for you. It might not be the one that you like, but it's always the right 1.

You are not wrong brother. I always have to remind myself that. Expecting constant perfection is not reasonable. The other night I was literally screaming in the garage trying to align the shifter. After 5 plus hours of adjustments trying to find reverse I just could not deal anymore. Was staring at everything around me like, “hmm what can I break that will make me feel better?” 😂

It’s a real shame man. New York made kei vehicles illegal at the end of last year. It’s very hit or miss whether you’ll allowed to be register and title, kinda depends on who is at the desk that day. If it’s over 25 years old then at least by federal standards, you don’t need to comply with emissions or safety. It’s a money grab like everything else. Not sure about Cali, but look into reg in Montana under an LLC. That’s what I will do if and when I get my title. Wishing you luck in getting one!

    Are you doing any upgrades?

    • @The_realist_realtor
      @The_realist_realtor Před 8 měsíci

Fully built! It’s got double over bore Wossner pistons and rods with a balance shaft delete. 3” dp to 2.5” all the way back with a Mitsu 20t turbo, threaded lines, all silicone piping, and all custom painted and coated parts. Running a hybrid flywheel allowing for use of a 9-5 clutch and a bunch of other stuff too. Full suspension is Eibach and Bilstein with poly bushings and more. Already put ~5000 miles on the Viggen in less than 2 months after the build. Still needs the tune to get the real numbers and some small things here and there but it’s a blast. I have hours and hours of footage but I couldn’t even begin to start weeding through it all 😅
