When you add the eq, does that change the timing?

To your point at around 24:00 Another perspective on this would be: in real life, sounds behind you are also "lowered in treble".. so why not keep it that way so it mimics reality? Wouldn't it be wrong to force back/behind speakers to sound like the sounds coming from the front?

I’m fairly certain the distance only changes once you move it over the 0.03m threshold. And 0.03m is 1.2 inches which is 0.1ft. I haven’t done extensive testing but I’m pretty sure that’s what it’s doing. I just get it as close as possible in the AVR and then move the speakers a little bit until they’re basically perfect.

Great video Carl. My only gripe with speakers etc in general is the fact that you'll never be fully happy you'll always find yourself tweaking them its never ending.

If you right click on the channel info on the left side panel. It gives you the timing information in milliseconds, meters and feet. This takes away much of the guessing

Having done the back and forth with MEQ-X I can tell this method is far less annoying and frustrating. I've actually been considering switching to Dirac Live Bass Control on my 6800H now that they reduced the price, but I'm not 100% convinced it will be much better than MEQ-X / MiniDSP. It would be a bummer to spend $600 and wind up preferring Audyssey! Lol

This is a near-field atmos mixing room layout for all intensive purposes. We will all need EMT ribbon tweeter modular arrays in the future. Traditional speaker design will be obsolete in a decade for home theater in 20 + x 15 + foot rooms with 5 + seats and 100" screens.

I perform the calibration on my two subs and I get a nice flat response. My problem is that when I then try to do a Dirac live calibration the subs are way too low (during the volume setting procedure)even though they are calibrated to 75db? It’s probably a Dirac issue but I’m scratching my head thinking what’s going on? All the best

I appreciate your thoughts on the Trinnov and your experience at the event. Having owned an Alt 16 for about two years now, I can't really argue that it should replace or blow away any competent Denon or Onkyo. Having owned previous processors like Arcam, Emotiva, Monoprice, and the current Anthem AVM70, there are appreciable improvements in the Alt16, but not night and day. My main selling point was this: to get off the upgrade carousel. I found myself getting a new pre-pro every 2-3 years, and was starting to find that cumbersome. New models seem to elicit enough FOMO in most enthusiasts and I see other hobbyists replacing their units at the same frequency. Having access to these upgrades: new codecs, waveforming, improved bass management come with no additional cost. Other companies, you will have to ditch your old unit, and purchase a new one. The only other main selling point is if you need the channels. You won't find many on the market that will decode to 32+ channels. And it's needed if you're going that semi-commercial theatre setup. It's really having the right tool for the job. Sometimes all you need is a screwdriver, other times it's required to have the power drill.

Why cant I ever get rid of all my peaks and knulls like you did in your videos. My eq curve always end up all spiky and with knulls.
