Really could use some help here. I rattle can rustoleum 2x painters over my golf cart, black on bottom grey on top with red pinstripe. Used spraymax 2k clear matte about four days after my last coat of grey. Burnt through wet sanding the following day. (Now i know, to soon....) Went to respray the grey and used blue scotch painters tape to mask. The tape lifted the clearcoat when removed. Starting over now. Should i wait a week or two after the last coat of rustoleum before applying spraymax? Do i need to apply spraymax while the paint is still fresh (like 45 min fresh) if i dont spray 2k clear right away do i need to wet sand the rustoleum before applying the 2k clear. Im using rustoleum satin and 2k spraymax gloss glamour this time.

The next time you do a Rustoleum paint job on a car (not on a trailer)... see if you can buff it out so it has a show room shine.

Aren't you going to buff it? What about putting a second clear coat after buffing? You are the only guy I know who put a clear coat over their Rustoleum paint job. I keep on telling those others that putting a clear coat will make it look much better and last much longer. Thank you for proving my point.

How long did you wait before shooting the clear...Do you wait until its dry to touch, wait for the one hour recoat time listed on the can... Not sure I understand the proper timing to shoot the clear over rustoleum. Great job btw. Looks awesome!!!

I know its been a while but you should update on the Rust Oleum paint job.. definitely would love to see it bad or good experience is experience.

Rustoleum had a FAQ on using their 2k clear on their products, with a chart for different products /different 2k. Could you maybe try sometime, rustoleum spray paint and their aerosol clearcoat?

Since you have experience with this paint/clear. Do you feel it would be durable enough for a GN equip trailer? Throwing chains/boomers ect. More interested in chip resistance and not rusting back through after all that work. Your vids dont really show that kind of thing. Maybe couple extra coats and a little more hardener?.... Subed for the local boy. East of the old HRP since you mentioned HMP in another vid.

I seen horror stories about solvent clearcoat interfering with rustoleum and bubbling or wrinkling. How did you avoid that? Some say let rust-oleum cure for a month. That's way too long

Hang a tarp above.on this car with the flex crack issues you did thecrite thing i thinkbyou trapped moistcpaintvbelow the harder clear keepingvit all sealed and moist and flexible and sticky.its a race car and has its specified finnish to the purpose.it is the correct paint .on your dads truck however id let the bace dry overnite tack it off and clear it,then done .the tarp above j keeps the buggs above from droppin dirt invit or bee shit.yes i said shit im not goin to hell.i think jesus sais shit happens too. But yea let you steel car bace dry first. Even scuff with 1000 then clear it. You mit bevlikeing the harbor frieght 15 doller gun.less fog in the room. And better paint flow.and less tyering. On clear color sand befor it gets too hard,with 1000,then 2000,then 3m heavy duty,and then a graphite black pollich and phome pad.lift up on the buffer.dont wax for a month. When I called rostolium they said it has a hardener in it...Why do you need a hardener if the restorium paint already has a hardener in it...

It will bring you down. Wearing No mask.. ye at the end you were older lookin. That clear😮 will kill you. Ive done this for 40.years.im gone.take c a re. tye a water hose to a sop vac blowin air in your mask.

I've done this successfully, but I do it after the rust-oleum cures for like 2 weeks. If I do it too soon it'll pull it right up. 💯👌

Rust-Oleum is a oil base paint. So I would be curious to see what it looks like in time and after it's been in the elements

This is really cool Buddy! I'm going to use this process on a wrought iron fence then use a 2K semi-gloss clear. I assume the Rust-Oleum has to be FULLY CURED before the topcoat the clear is that correct? How long do you recommend to wait on a 70 degree day? Then before the clear use a maroon scotchbrite pad? THANKS!!

Hey awesome to do more common guy stuff. May I suggest even outdoors use a breathing mask. Those chemicals are deadly airborne.
