I'm now just realising, lip acts like himself most with frank, frank doesn't care much about anything, and I think lip had impact on that and frank and lip became mentally close rather than physically, lip is almost an identical version of frank when he was younger, Frank's mother is the one who destroyed his dreams and crushed his confidence, like lips family did with him, all I hope is that after shameless lip lived on to persevere and become a better father than frank every could.

I love Lip's character. It's odd to identify with a character in a show who is an actual genius without being one yourself. But my family always had extremely high expectations of me and pushed me to do certain things or apply to certain schools or take extra curriculum to pad my stats in high school to apply to colleges I didn't belong to. All while acting as the voice of reason for my siblings during a family crisis where my father wasn't present. The bar for "adequate" for me was set way too high, when I was too young, while my siblings coasted along in life and it really fucked with me for the longest time. I was homeless by age 18. I struggled for 4 long years to accomplish what most would consider 'entry-level' living. To afford an apartment. The nights I struggled trying to feed myself while remembering I was "destined for great things" was a constant reminder that I wasn't worthy or the things I had been told I was supposed to have accomplished by then. I know this video was posted 6 years ago but it just showed up for me. I'm a mid-30s adult who wasted too much time in his late teens trying to live up to expectations set too high. Lip is an actual genius. I'm a mediocre person with the impossible weight of expected responsibility forced on me. I lived through the 'best case scenario' and can't imagine the toll it took on Lip. So I commend Jeremy Allen White for portraying it as he did. It puts things into perspective when your ability to perceive certain things is skewed due to how you were raised.

I feel for Lip, I met someone like him years ago and as in the show, the environment around us wasn't the best and he had soooo much potential but didn't get his shit together.. I got out from there but I don't know what happened to him, I hope he's doing okay, Shameless really protrays many realitly of many people, crazy and sad at the same time but that's the world we live in.

Honestly episode 12 on S3 was the best one for Lip.It was the only one where I saw things go better with his life,he graduated and Frank was surprisingly nice with him then,before it all went shit from there.
