The Microverb has various decay presets (which seem to have various resonant freqs) and when you choose a new one it cuts off the tail of the previous one - that's the knob I'm adjusting in the bottom right and I like the way it makes the feedback cut off and ramp back up at a new pitch. Patch notes: there's a stereo feedback loop (out tape out, in channels 5/6), a second stereo feedback loop t...

      in terms of the mixer feedback sounds, you could likely find a way to route audio in a feedback loop digitally, and chuck on distortion and compression. as for my puredata guitar chopping effects, ableton's beat-repeat or similar could get you in the ballpark, or manually cutting and pasting little slices of audio.

    • @ReubenIngall
      @ReubenIngall Před 4 měsíci

      With this one, I was twisting the knob 'by ear' till it sounded pleasing to me (sorta like a fretless string instrument?). There's a whole microtonal world available there too and what's pleasing is a matter of taste/perspective, but yes in general I think it's very tricky to tame mixer feedback into a 12-tone zone. I don't have any tricks up my sleeve beyond the by-ear approach :)

    New subscriber here and new to NIMB. I have no problem making harsh noise and overdriven clipping rhythms, but really haven't been able to find a way to make lush ambient sounds. Is the secret tons of reverb?

    • @ReubenIngall
      @ReubenIngall Před rokem

      Yep I think that's one strategy. The other is applying low pass filters to remove high frequencies that can be perceived as more harsh.

    • @ReubenIngall
      @ReubenIngall Před rokem

      A few people have asked me similar things when I've played live, and the answer is... they're not synced. (The tape and the loop pedal are operating independently, and I never even attempt to match them up by timing my playing.) Feeding the kick into the mixer is certainly causing a side-chain-style ducking effect, but our pattern-seeking brains do the rest :)
