    600 to 1000 bucks is all you really need, get a good mechanic if you want your bike to feel good. these "online" direct to customer shops, DO NOT ship you a properly built up bike like you do at a LBS. Doesnt matter what bike you have IT NEEDS to be tunned up after the break in period or else it will feel like a 200$ bike.

    fuck racing culture. you will get more performance from a bike that is solid. sure a ultra light bike might be faster when it is perfectly maintained and clean. but a bike build a bit more sturdy will ride better in all day training conditions. source: 15years as a full time bike messenger

    The Death of affordable Groupsets like the 11 speed R7000 105 was the beginning of the end. Manufacturers are so focused on making high tech wireless shyte thats costing them so much money to R&D so they have to overprice sell to make some money just to keep employees. Now here we are everything is overpriced. You can't buy cheap low end mechanical equipped bikes anymore that still offers performance. In Japan they make cheap steel bikes equipped with mechanical gruppos, those won't win tour de france its focused on urban riding and its selling really well there. Americans and Europeans has been brainwashed by all these World Tour races they can't accept bike without electronic gruppos anymore. I recently threw away my Red AXS and Dura Ace Di2 bikes and settled on a Tarmac 105 R7000 mechanical and never looked back. Life has been good without the dramas of dead battery, rusted wires and battery fallouts. I got the last SL6 Sport from the factory and happy with it.

    Where do we start.... Trying to re-invent the wheel (literally) forcing consumers to buy new bikes because all of a sudden, 26" wheels and frames with 135mm dropouts and straight steerers are barely supported! There's no conspiracy, it was almost as if prices of bikes went through the roof overnight and the choice of parts to upgrade and keep the old bikes going disappeared. Need a new set of forks? Oh, you'll need a new frame! Buy a new frame, you'll need new wheels... Want to swap forks? Oooops, it's not boost and tapered.... Oh shucks, it's the wrong offset too! A group of aging industry w@nkers have destroyed it, in a little less than two decades.

I ride with a bunch of ragtag old school dudes that can hold their own and we just love giving the smack down to the snobby fashion riders. Furthermore, when I was a kid, my Flemish, electrician father would take me out on rides and it didn't matter if I had a banana seat it was all about pumpin those peddles. Again, thanks for the video, I'm a fan for life.

  • @Featinwe
    @Featinwe Před dnem

    What's killing the industry? a corporate greed in form of: - UCI (why 2/3 of bikes have to be UCI certified?! wtf... I don't need pro-level gear!) - proprietary components (seatposts, stems etc.) that should be common - Gazylions standards (can't wait for another BB standard :) ) - short longevity by design, for example: try to buy a chainring for older cranksets (good luck!), 12-13 speed drivetrains etc. - Constant introduction of new technologies for the sake of introducing new technologies to drive bikes sales (mentioned 12 speed drives, hookless rims etc.) and which are less reliable so that user has to buy replacement sooner - more and more complex builds so that user can't repair the bike themselves (integrated everything, batteries and electronics everywhere). Plus, a bunch of maniacs who think that they can't ride a bike with newest tech... That said, here in Poland we have such a big boom for bikes that local bike shops are doping really well, so, there's that! Wiggle and other UK shops are killed by Brexit. We used to buy lot's of stuff from UK until it was in EU.

  • @alessiozamboni4694

    Nah, it's the cyclists' fault... most people I know who do cycling regularly are obsessed with weight reduction, carbon fibre, etc... even if they don't compete. Most people don't understand you shouldn't buy the bicycle of the pros if you are not a pro; they just spend thousands of euros to save 500g on their bicycle because that is what pros are doing. The problem is that consumers often want what they perceive as the best instead of what is enough for their needs... It is the customers' fault, not the big brand's fault.

    I was a late comer to cycling. I always loved riding a bike, but there’s a local chain of bike shops that I won’t go to because they can credibly be accused of gatekeeping, as I experienced it first hand. I’m a middle aged, gainfully employed divorced guy with money to spend on bikes and bike parts. You treat me like an a$$hole, I’m never coming back. Thankfully, the one store in my area that didn’t close recently is a Trek store. I’ve found those guys to be very helpful and accommodating. They’ve even worked on two of my bikes that aren’t Treks. I’ll happily go back there for my biking needs instead of the store that sounds like “Pitchardson Bike Fart.”

    I'm riding a 1993 Cannondale 2.8 with Columbus carbon forks. All 10 sp components. regularly smoke many other riders. There's 65 year old with a steel bike that smokes everybody - rides 13,000 km a year. I did find a 2017 Cannondale SuperSix HM frame for $900 and I run aluminum wheels because rim brakes heat up carbon rims and blow tubes and rims on long, hard descents. Guess they didn't tell Chris Froome that until later. :) Anyways not bad for what was a $8500 bike in 2017 - so that is one strategy for the middle class - just pick up the detritus from the tsunami of planned obsolescence. Marketing has taken over cycling. I got into it because it was a middle class sport. Upper class did F1 autos. Now it takes some doing to keep it middle class. I just can't let go of that heroic inspiration of earlier cycling. Also, I don't want to carry a torque wrench while riding - so that I can make cockpit adjustments on the fly. i.e. no carbon bars. bad when you lose your dropout below the lever clamp. oh yeah, I got two pairs of gloves on Ali Express, and a top branded jersey for $30.

    I bought one the day it came out. It took about a week to get. I was in the market for a trainer. I am brand new to the world of cycling indoors (and cycling in general). My current bike is a Trek 7.2 from 2014 (about 600 miles this summer). I was looking at a couple of different choices. The smart bikes were all in the $3k+ range. That is a little "spicy", but plausible. A Wahoo Kickr seemed like what I wanted to go with, but using my own bike seems like a PITA. I live on the 33rd floor and my bike is stored in the bike room on the bottom floor. Then I saw a few of the influencers talking about this and it looked like it was perfect for me. Being locked into Zwift seems to be the only negative, but if I needed to, I could get a gear set and mount it on to the Kickr. I only have 5.5 hours on it so far (chest cold right after it arrived), but so far so good. It does not wake my wife up in the room next to it. You are right about the tool. Just a 5mm hex key, but being able to store it at the bike makes it easier for my wife and I to share.

      Sounds like it was the perfect move for you then! I was super hesitant about this at first but I’m hearing more and more folks that it seems to fit perfectly so that’s great!

    Shopping locally is a great idea, especially of you want to pay 1.5x the RRP. Say what you want but I just don't have enough motivation to shell out more cash for something that can be bought pnline cheaper and in a few clicks. Then there's always something that's mot in stock and with local shops and you have to wait for them to essentially do what you'd do and order online from their dealers. And then there are shops that just plainly try to rip you off. Happened to me right after moving to Copenhagen, when everyone cycles, but apparently has no clue how vikes work. Came with a loose pedal and got a 600eur bill for a crank, cassette, BB etc. Like wtf?

    I'm lucky enough to have a Trek shop about four blocks from my house. They service any and all bikes of all price tiers. Most adjustments or tweaks are made without charge. All the folks know my name, ask where I've been riding and really just want people to get out and ride. I can't speak for all the other corporate shops but I couldn't be happier with my local Trek shop.

      I think overall it comes down to the staff. Some kept the same feeling as a great mom and pop and some fell to the corporate bandsaw. Overall, I’m happy to hear people having positive experiences with their local shop and getting good support.

    Probably the reason why the bike industry is going down the pan because when lockdown started the bike industry made a glut of bikes they got greedy so when lockdown eased the bikes lost their value and people stopped buying and started selling them

      The second hand market for bikes right now is absolutely insane because the price gouging of Covid (at least in my area) has come down massively, But the supply is still great. So you can find just wild good deals on high end bikes people bought in the pandemic, rode 4 times, and let sit in the garage for the last 4 years. I don’t think any of them really understood just how fast a bike depreciates in value lol.

    You are so right in every point...Raffa and Specialized are the most prominent examples of a critical development in bike industry.
