Her breakthrough came at the age of 16 with the recording of her first hit single, "It's My Party," which topped the US charts in 1963. This success paved the way for ten additional top 40 hits on the US Billboard, including "Judy's Turn to Cry" and "You Don't Own Me." Gore often regarded "You Don't Own Me" as her signature song.
