Bahia Honda State Park Campground Review (Post Irma Update)
zhlédnutí 13KPřed 6 lety
Quick video update of Bahia Honda State Park, as seen post Hurricane Irma , in Feb 2018. This park took quite a lot of damage from the hurricane, so much of the thick vegetation is gone and (for the moment) the entire ocean-side part of the park is still closed. But the RV campground (Buttonwood campground) is open, as is the swim beach and it's still a beautiful place to stay. So, if you're wo...

I was a Ranger at Harris Park many many years ago(1984). What great memories I have of that park and also of my old Boss Ed Fishlier who was the Manager and Head Ranger. Brookings is the town where my wife Wendy grew up and where we met and married. I will always hold a very special place in our heart and in our memories. Thank you for this Video. We’ll be in their area in the summer off season and we’ll use their service. We have found several good services through you guys, AM Solar and Marvin, MCD blinds (in McKinney TX) are examples. Having a now 10 year old motorhome we also had to “defog” a few windows and used Dr. Fog in Searcy AR. For chassis shock replacement and steering aids Hinderson’s in Grants Pass OR. After we have the Diamond shield removed we have to repaint the front, too many chips from the road and when you get a chip in the Diamond Shield the paint peels off! Live and learn. Thanks again for the years of information and the best travel blog.

Very good tour of the Park. I was there at about the same time and she has given a true picture of the camp. If you are familiar with Bahia Honda, you will recognize that almost a the vegetation has been blown away. Only the tree vegetation really survived - bushes and plants, gone. But, it will eventually return. Sandspur section is not expected to be open for a year. It was absolutely devastated - as if it were bombed.

Hi Nina & Paul! Someone is going to get themselves one heck of a rig! As we mentioned in a comment on your blog... Every time we're asked about the best possible RV buying situation, we always reply that a 1-owner used rig, with good maintenance records, that was used full-time, purchased directly from a meticulous, original owner, is the best scenario. A used rig has already gone through its steepest depreciation, and long since had its "punch list" items address. A private sale not only eliminates dealer mark-up, but also puts the buyer in direct touch with the person who knows more about the rig that anyone else (ditto the "one owner" benefit, since only the original owner knows EVERYTHING that's ever been done to the rig). And the benefit of buying from a full-timer is the lack of lot rot, especially when the owner knows to exercise the chassis and generator on a regular basis. When you toss in an RV that's been highly upgraded with a stellar solar array & lithium battery bank, and lots of other goodies that only an experienced full-timer would likely recognize as "must-have" features, you've got a real "cherry" (the opposite of a "lemon" in used car parlance). Now add in one final almost-impossible-to-find factor: the rig is owned, featured and publicly used and maintained by a well- known and well-respected couple who have shared every intimate detail of that RV's life and times... and you have one of the most desirable used rigs ever to come on the market. The only one that might equal it, for all the same reasons, is our own 2005 Newmar Mountain Aire. But that one's not for sale, so some lucky person had better grab this amazing Holiday Rambler fast! ;-)

Posing this a little late, but I live close to Sampson, and use to visit frequently. It is very clean and a great place to camp, my family stopped going there because of the park rangers. They are disrespectful and we have had problems with them, if you do something wrong, I.e riding a bike on the grass without helmet, they will report to to a higher person. Also if you are loud after 9pm they will send rangers. Basically if they don't like you they will find a million things to pin you on. A dog on a chain under a tree while everyone is outside, is apparently animal abuse. Thy told us to not tie up our dog, but all dogs must be on a leash. I wouldn't recommend going here.
