CSX train runs during total solar eclipse 4/8/24 Berea, OH
As many of you guys probably know a total solar eclipse crossed the country from Texas to Maine this past Monday. I viewed the eclipse in Berea, OH and got lucky with CSX M268 with an SD70MAC leading during totality. More details in timestamps below:
0:00 - Totality is about to begin. Birds chirp and the sky gets darker as the crowd watches in anticipation.
0:32 - Totality begins. Venus is visible as I attempt to zoom in on the sun and moon.
0:44 - The sun’s corona is visible.
0:55 - I pan the video around to capture the 360 degree sunset.
1:08 - The lights of the train are visible in the distance as I prepare to get my shot.
1:52 - I zoom out to capture the train and eclipse. This is when the sun and moon are most visible.
2:30 - The train arrives.
3:48 - The train finishes. You can see the light to the west getting brighter as totality is almost done.
4:23 - The diamond ring is visible as totality ends.
4:55 - I pan to the east one last time. It is still dark to the east since that area is still in totality.

*INSANE WHEEL SLIP* WNY&P Railroad wheel slips in Oil City, Pennsylvania 4/27/23
zhlédnutí 306KPřed 7 měsíci
*to skip right to wheel slip skip to 4:35. For more details and timestamps continue reading.* On Thursday April 27th, 2023 my dad and I were chasing WNYP’s Oil City turn south from Meadville. After making a brief pause to make sure traffic was stopped the train tried to get going but didn’t quite have enough power. The crew throttled up which resulted in one set of trucks on engine 430 to wheel...

    There is a first for everything. A train having to give way to traffic???? And wow who knew train tracks where so flammable. I wonder how many wild fires are set off from such an event like this. Good job the fire man was there to do something about it hahahaha. This video has everything drama suspense and the woman comment at the end comedy..

    Consider yourselves lucky that there was a fire man on the street as the train was trying desperately to get through and the fire man was able to spray water on the tracks. That would have been a very scary situation especially on metal rails. Thanks for sharing this video! Happy rail fanning.

    Why was there no automatic sanding and the load killed on the traction motors doing the slipping, that's supposed to be automatic.

      Thanks! That’s awesome that you enjoy the trains in Clemson. I actually live about two hours south of there and that same line is the line where I watched trains on when I was first getting into the hobby. I’ve been through Clemson a few times and y’all have some really bad traffic lol, I tried chasing a train with double Heritage Units through there a few months ago and the traffic completely ruined it.

    Thats a wheelslip relay failure by the look of it? Engineer has no idea except for lack of power. Lowas no mat hoked like a reset did the trick , but the old light rail was no match for new wheel sets! Gregg.

  • @julieroberts1329
    @julieroberts1329 Před 4 měsíci

    So is the wheels slipping is that why the train was stopped on the bridge? Does the train usually go this speed when coming thru this town? Cause the frieights that come thru the middle of my town are literally hauling ass at least 60-70. Usually its after 9 or 10pm. We have the cross gaurds that come down. Which the lights or guard makes no difference when ppl are ignorant.

  • @joellawrence1132
    @joellawrence1132 Před 4 měsíci

    Update: I just read an article and it looks like Pennsylvania DOT is putting in safer crossing warning systems at a handful of locations in Oil City, including the crossing at the 4:15 mark. Wouldn’t be surprised if the crossing that the train stopped for gets gates too. According to the article this will take place sometime this year. Hopefully they won’t have to stop the trains anymore after that is complete.

    And the infrastructure was ruined. I mean it, they had to replace damaged rails, otherwise the next train would've derailed especially that the damage was on a curve. I wonder why the engineer didn't monitor the anti slip system. Probably gotten distracted by those fools running just in front of the locomotive.

    Can anyone explain why this happened? did the locomotive make a "chute" during braking?. Is this really provided for by the design, and the second locomotive does not obey the brake crane of the leader?
