Damn fs
Blast from the past. lol
and it even runs 🤣
To put the Pinto's fire hazard into perspective, Ford's bean counters calculated the costs to install the rear end bolt covers which eliminated the rupturing of the fuel tank in a rear end event but found it would be cheaper to pay the victims off. That is corporate America people, they are soulless ghouls with no regard for anything else $$$$$$
BOOM!
What size is the engine?
1600, 2.0, or 2.3?
Where can I see it?
That's so awesome dude
why does the book call for an additional 30 lb of torque on the belt
Only can go by what i know from years of backyard wrenching. It’s never let me down in over 25 years.
That's truly awesome !!
Great
How much you want?
I just did my timing belt on my 88 Ford Thunderbird car turned on find idles great drives awesome but after a period of time of driving car stumbles and wants to shut off would one tooth off can cause that
It’s sounds like you have a TFI module that is overheating. That is the rectangular module on the side of the distributor.
@@MultiChipsta OK cool thanks 🙏🏽 my tabs broke for my timing. That’s the reason I was a little bit worried I did the dipstick method and it look close to me.
How did you set timing without the cover? You may have been able to set "Initial timing", but you need to pull the spout and set timing to 10* BTDC. Otherwise your timing is way off. Contact me at bigrmotorsports.com I offer a nice timing pointer and I also have stock used portions that have the timing mark for vheap if you contact me via the website email@@820performancecomptonbro4
First time I’ve seen a Folvo head swapped car actually been driven! 👍 I was starting to wonder 💭
Weird! none of those “Folvo’s” swapped TC’s ever drives.
Mine does. I just don’t drive it much because it’s more of a show car. I would not build one as a daily, nor would I ever do it again. So many Dohc platforms out there now with tons of vender support. My next engjne will be a Duratec with a turbo. We took a bone stock Duratec and made 400 on the engine Dyno at 15 psi. The motor only cost me $350 at pick a part. Have to love that.
Where did you get that reference sheet? I am using a screen shot of your video for reference while I am repinning my eec, but would like to find the actual sheet you are using in the video
Look up rothfam.com/svo/reference
Thats amazing i want to do this to my 97 ranger its a Bajaj build and i love the 2.3 absolutely indestructible
Is that running an LA3 and VAM at that power level?
Great info thank you
You still have the Pinto ?
Yes. And many others
@@MultiChipsta Any for sale ?
You still have that Pinto
Love it.
Do you still have this car?
Sweet, and then the dorky gas tank comment at 1:27 , lol smh... Cool Video Chip, save me a trip :)
Help!! My crank keeps slipping when applying tension, not my cam gear. I line up all marks, put it in 5th to hold the crank, apply tension, crank over twice, and the crank is one tooth forward
5th to hold the crank when setting timing and back in neutral when I crank over twice to check it's still good, btw
If you watch my second and last video it clearly states not to add tensioner. Let it self tighten. Put car in nuetral so that crank can spin freely. Line up all the marks and let the tesnsioner loose. Once it’s loose you crank the crank pulley two full rotations until the crank is at TDC and then check it.
How do you time it
What suspension are you running and is the car lowered?
Is this chip from Big R motorsports
Yes it is
Awesome really a nice car done well
Awesome build! Is 1983 TC drive train worth acquiring? Guy wants a grand for whole car in sad shape. Unknown mechanical condition. Hard to find nowadays.
That’s not a good deal. The 84 has a slow computer, small injectors, and small air meter. Plus it doesn’t run so who knows what you are getting. The trans also isn’t world class so it won’t be able to handle any real horsepower. I’d wait for a better donor car. I won’t buy a donor that isn’t running unless it’s cheap $500 or can show me proof it runs
@@MultiChipsta I'll look at I this weekend but knowing what you just told me, I'm passing on it. Found an 88 TC for $3500 but it's been parked in same spot for years. Just a big old red flag. Runs and sounds good but I didnt drive it long enough to notice any internal issues.
I left mine alone. But awsome tip.
Cool, I thought about doing the 16V head swap on my builds too. Good Job!
Thank you. This was years ago though, and the car still runs good. However since that time so many other great platforms have come out that have vendor support, that I would not suggest this endeavor. I would either go with a Duratec or a eco-boost.
1987 2.3 ford ranger fuel Injected
Can I buy one of these from you
Yes but you can now buy them new for only $15 more than what I charge for them. Send me a message at bigrmotorsports.com
I use the blue ones and never had a problem. I have a 88 ranger with a 200hp 2.3 na no turbo
Thanks! You solved are problem Will pass this one around
Good good
Nice! I’ll add it to the list.
Gonna hafta save my pennys!
thank you, Chip.
Awesome job need windshield for 78 or 79 pinto wagon ???
Basically a DIY Cosworth YB engine, one of the powerful Group A racing engine ever built developed from none other than a Pinto engine.
This is my dream build! I have a few 2.3 turbo motors from 88’ thunderbirds & I’d love to throw one in a pinto one day with some serious ponies pushing it. Got on in an 88’ ranger short bed now & love it!
Custom paint as in?
Ok, this is a TON of work! Kudos to you for getting this finished. But is there a notable difference in the performance of the car?
Yes there is a definite performance difference. Think about it. Car makes 325hp wheel at 15psi. However just know this was 5pver years ago and there wasn’t a Duratec or Ecoboost. If I had to do it all over again NOW It would be one of those platforms. Lots of vender bolt ons and lots of vender support. If you do this swap you are totally on your own and have to fab everything up. Never again
@@MultiChipsta well damn... guess you still own it? How's it running these days
You helped me a lot because I don't have marks on my 2.3... Gracias amigo!! ... can you make one to set up the distributor too? There are no videos like that.
how did you double tree and what pieces did you use??
Not sure what you mean by double tree
So the auxiliary shaft isn’t timed? I’ve been fighting my 78 2.3 pinto timing for 3 months now
No you don’t use the timing mark in the aux gear. You only take of distributor cap and make sure rotor is on #1 with TFI in the 5 O clock position. If belt is still off you can set the TFi at 5 O clock and grab the aux pulley and turn it until rotor is at the position I stayed. Which is just to the right of that square cap screw.
@@MultiChipsta I put the car in time like you did there was a little dot on the cam sprocket no other markings anywhere and did everything you said hopefully it starts
Very Nice Chip !!
That's awesome man...I got a 88 Ford Thunderbird Turbo Coupe 2.3 and I just got done replacing every gasket and it's I beast now I just gotta check timing...thanks for the vids they help...ALOT!
does this work for the 2.0 carburated ranger?? i lost the plastic timing mark for the camshaft pulley :c... and im not sure if i set the timing correctly... plz help
Yes it works on the 2.0
