I come to this video and the sequel every so often because they are, to me, the best CZcams videos I've ever seen in my life. Without exaggeration. The way you can tell a story without excessive narration is really amazing. Its almost as immersive as Dark Souls storytelling itself; you don't need to explain much, just show what you're doing. All you need to do is present context and storytell through action, and maybe have some supplementary narration here and there. The editing is also just so well paced. Genuinely amazing pacing throughout the two videos. It really feels like a proper story with actual stakes involved and the way you draw the viewer in is really great too. For gods sakes, I showed my friends this series and they know nothing about Dark Souls at all, and they were invested the whole way through. Its a testament to your storytelling technique, really. That, and the high quality, non-brain rotten edits just make the video timeless. The way you choose the clips is also just... beyond genius. I don't know how you sift through THAT AMOUNT of footage and come out of it with a coherent storyline. Its really, really good. I know as a creator it feels like in retrospect, past videos suck ass, but this has and always will be a banger video, until I die I can swear on that. It affected my own style of making videos and streaming and genuinely shaped how I see making content until this day. Just came here to say that.

14:28 makes me appreciate DS2. I paused and try to think about it,. got it correct but I was surprised that all the others that feel like later bosses even the Dark Lurker could be your first boss if you really went for it. DL would also need to grind for one million souls to open the door to the drangelic castle for one of three pits were you enable this. That's literally the boss I end up fighting at the end after I finish the main game. No other souls game, not even DS1, will give so much freedom in a new playthrough.

1st point is spot on. Besides that I am now going through DS3 and still haven't finished because I am not attracted to it for some reason compared to the how attractive to me the level design of the older games were (yes even DS2!), my first confusion is that I felt so uninterested to most of the first areas even through middle of the game. Ok, the only moment I had a good feeling is when I first encountered Irithyll of the Boreal Valley as I was coming out of the previous dungeon. It was almost like finding Anor Londo but not as much, however a nice moment. But everything before were seeming bland and uninteresting. And here is the thing, I wondered why I didn't feel the same about High Wal of Lothric? And one thing that hit me is what you said in video, it's such a sudden jump to show you vistas of huge castles. The village you travel after should indeed be very very fitting, to keep this feeling of gradually going from barren areas to majestic ones. And I really like that village more than the later forest/swamp flattened areas. Most are very bland, I don't know. And good to touch on the linearity. I am in that hard position where everyone told me "you must play DS3, it's the best of all" and I am like why I don't feel like that, even coming from DS1 and DS2 which is supposed to be the black sheep? And one reason is it's even more linear with half levels boring and boss fights are the only good things in this game supposeduly (other than I am not used to this kind of fights, so I don't enjoy them yet and there is nothihng else to attract me in it's world, rather than nostalgic references). Most of the points are spot on too. I feel like if I want to replay the game after I finish it once, I will end up playing another fighter character, as things move so fast that you have to be aggressive in a way or roll 6 times in a row, to be able to survive. I feel like the game squeezes me to play with one playstyle. Let alone because of linearity I don't have many alternative choices that would make sense. It's the first DS game that I played, then quit then came back uniniterested but more as a chore to finish. For some reason, even DS2 which is considered bad has sucked me much into it and now I've been replaying it, and despite people complained about linearity, you still have 3-4 choices and every time I play differently.

I keep coming back to this and the vods.. and something I always forget with it, is no matter how painful of a fail he had, there were so many runs that he had a beaming smile on his face and cracking jokes..
