    It is the car that maketh the man.... From recent results it is more clear than ever that there are at least 8 drivers good enough to win. But they need the correct car! Max is good but so is Fernando, Carlos, Charles, Lando, Oscar, George and Lewis. But most of them are prima Donna's and spoilt with elevated and often disgusting attitudes. Where are Jackie Stewart and Jackie Icx, the real racers in Dangerous cars!

    While it would be great to see Mick back in F1, it would be nice if it was with a better team. I'm not convinced that Alpine will ever field a car worthy of a championship. Mick needs a team that can give him a car he can challenge with; and even if it doesn't turn out to be the best car, he's capable if winning in it as long as it's not a midfield car or worse.

    • @MickPsyphon
      @MickPsyphon Pƙed 2 dny

      @@floriansemmler1618 Unlike you, I have been avidly following Formula One since the 1970's. I've seen truly great racers, not the mere _"drivers"_ of modern Formula One. By the late 80's I began paying attention to the lower Formula leagues, as well as Endurance Racing and other leagues. It was at the time that Michael Schumacher got the chance to show his talent for Jordan in '91, that I realized that most of the drivers in other leagues whom I was interested in, were destined for F1. That's not to say that they were all championship material, but among them it was easy to pick out who could win championships, given a decent team and car. Most people who follow F1 (especially in the last 15 years) live under the delusion that the differences in cars and teams are irrelevant; and they pass judgement on drivers, teams, team principles, etc... from a perspective that's veiled in ignorance. Today, more than ever, the car makes the difference. Not since Michael Schumacher, have we seen a racer talented enough to take a midfield (or worse) car... and make it genuinely competitive for the title. When Michael made the jump to Ferrari, their car was shite! It was in competition with Minardi for the most DNF's. The aero package remained outclassed until at least '98. The engine had power, but aside from being unreliable, they struggled to put that power down to the wheels. It took a lot of trial and effort; and they made some changes in the team to get there, but the fact that Michael had all the qualities that they needed to develop a reliable car, meant that in '98 they had differentiated themselves from the back-markers completely. The rest is History. Jump ahead to Mick. Unlike you, I know that he began his racing years by racing under his mother's maiden name. He did that, because a) he didn't want anyone to give him ANYTHING due to him being the son of the greatest race car driver of all time (he wanted to earn it himself); and b) he didn't want to have to deal with idiots and morons, who get on his case purely because his father is the greatest race car driver of all time. So he raced. He won. He made a name for himself. Those who followed him realized that Mick was truly talented in his own right. Unlike his father, Mick historically would take his first season to get to know the team, the car, the limits, etc... and then challenge for a title in his second year. The worst thing that could happen to someone like Mick, was to end up in a team like Haas when he joined F1. Guenther is incapable of getting the best out of young rookies. He ruins them. Haas isn't a serious team! If they're going to sign TWO rookies, they forfeit any right to complain about whether and how many times they crash, unless they're actively engaged in working with the drivers to improve. Haas and Steiner are guilty of failing on both counts. (Although, I'm not sure what anyone could do with Mazespin) The worst part is that Haas announced that they weren't going to be upgrading the car in Mick's _"rookie"_ year. So, everyone else in the grid (except Mazespin) had a much improved car. To everyone except those who follow F1, it was no surprise that the Haas cars finished at the back of the pack. Enter Magnussen! In the first part of Mick's second season at Haas, Magnussen over performed. Nobody expected the results he got. During that time, Mick was left out to dry, with nothing but threats from Guenther, whether outright or veiled, the message was constantly clear: _"Mick needs to get points, if he wants to sign an extension for the following year."_ Nevermind the fact that Guenther had already contacted Nico to ask if he was interested in driving for them the following year. Nor the fact that only Kevin would receive updates on the car, while Mick was being threatened to outperform his teammate and get points. Notwithstanding Guenther's incompetent mismanagement of Mick, during the second half of the season, miracle of miracles happened: Mick was regularly outperforming Kevin (who even admitted as much); and he scored more points in that second half than his teammate, too. It was all for naughty, because that duplicitous piece of trash, Guenther, had already signed Nico for the following season, while giving Mick the false hopes of being able to sign an extension if his performance and points scores improved. He even waited until every single available seat was filled, before he announced that Nico was replacing Mick. That's a lowdown, dirty rotten thing to do to anyone! He knew that the contract was signed in the first half of the season. Any decent human being would have quietly told his driver, so that they could shop around. Guenther knew that Mick couldn't, because he was a member of the Ferrari Driver Academy; and that's the reason why Mick chose NOT to continue with the FDA. He anticipated from before the second half of that season, that he could end up marketing himself to other teams, later in the season. The only problem was that he couldn't do it, as long as he was under contract with Haas (a Ferrari affiliate). As long as Guenther hadn't announced a replacement for Mick, Mick was restricted from talking to any teams that weren't affiliated with Ferrari. As soon as Guenther pulled that crap, Toto talked to Mick's manager about signing him on as a reserve driver. Yes! All that crap went on in the background, while morons soaked up the Drive To Survive garbage. Mick is very much a talented driver; and most people involved in Formula One agree. Some have been forced to be political about it, while others were forthright. Suffice to say that when even Bruno Famin is now touting Mick as a very talented, viable candidate to replace Ocon, that speaks volumes. Famin wasn't one of Mick's supporters. He reluctantly allowed Mick to test for the WEC Hypercar seat, but was blown away with everything that he brought to the table from day 1. The fact that Mick has consistently been the fastest driver for the WEC Hypercar, while very respectably managing both tyre wear and fuel consumption, was sufficient to open Famin's eyes to give Mick a chance at any seat that opens in his F1 team. Personally, I think that Mick deserves a better team than Alpine, but I'm old enough to understand that it was a wise decision to go to WEC. He knew that it would open a door to F1. I just hope that some of the other teams will seats that may open, give Mick a serious chance. Williams is a possibility. So is Mercedes. Nevertheless, if Alpine is his only shot, then so be it! He'll outperform his teammate; and start getting regular points. If you're still stuck on the crashes at Haas, then please start following NASCAR; and let true admirers of F1 alone.

      @@MickPsyphon Mick did test drives for Alpine before and he was not taken there, he was not fast enough. Mercedes has a lot of sweet talk but in reality Andrea Kimi Antonelli has droven the lighter car and Mick only drove the heavy weight car. So they do not give him the chance to outpace in the first place. If Mercedes would really want him, the actoins would be different. I see Sainz at Mercedes and Andrea Kimi Antonelli at Williams or Sergeant- Sergeant has to get his credits in 2025 and not before. If Mick has no seat until then he is pretty much history. Mazespin is not mention-worthy. Magnussen did outperform Mick in my opinion. You can have a different opinion there- fair enough. What made the true difference is the crash output Mick made at Haas- every year he had the most expensive crashes of all drivers. I am not stuck on Haas. In the WEC he has performed well in terms of crashes so far. I can not blame him for the mistakes / crashes he made there. So this point is on him. In terms of pace he is still not fast enough in WEC. Yes he is the fastest driver in a team full of nonames. And he is unable to drive the car in the single digit score of places in the end.

      @@floriansemmler1618 *_"Mick did test drives for Alpine before and he was not taken there, he was not fast enough."_* Dates and places of the tests please. Kimi Antonelli is a huge gamble; and even Toto knows it. That's why he hasn't signed him, yet. He knows that Antonelli lacks a lot of experience; and he could just as easily turn out to be nothing in F1. He hasn't proven himself, yet. Too young; and until he can demonstrate the consistency at a high level, Toto will continue to gnash his teeth. As far as Mick is concerned at Mercedes, they already know how good he is. It's just that Toto continues to ponder whether Antonelli will be as good as everyone claims he will. It would be an expensive, career ending mistake for him sign on such a young and inexperienced driver, if he turns out to be another Ocon, or Sergeant. Both seats could be up at Alpine; and Famin likes what he sees in Mick, who brings more than just speed and experience to the table. *EVERYONE* who has ever worked with Mick in F1 and WEC (except for Guenther), has said the same thing: they're super-impressed with his attitude, the way he gets along with everyone, his professionalism, his feedback, his contributions on and off the track, etc... Say what you will about Antonelli, but *NOBODY* is saying all those things about him. You can't teach those intangibles to a driver. They either have it, or they don't; and no matter how fast a driver is, without those extra qualities he can only go so far. Mick's attention to details is what raises him above other contenders. A serious team will recognize that. Teams that are destined to flounder at the back, or in the midfield will continue chasing rainbows. Magnussen only outperformed Mick in the first half of their season together; and he did it in a better car (Mick didn't get updates until many weeks afterwards). Argue all you want about that as well, but Kevin didn't mince words about it. He made it clear that Mick was pushing him all the time; and it made it very difficult for him. He recognizes that Mick got the better of him more often than not in the second half of the season; and Mick was actually the most improved driver over the season. The crashes were an excuse to get rid of Mick, but the fact that Haas aren't a serious team is what made it worse. Gene Haas isn't there to _"WIN"_ races. He's there to show; and to collect sponsorship $$$$$. He's too cheap to invest in a real car and a real team; and he was upset that his profits weren't going to be as big as he'd hoped. That's his fault! If you're going to run a team on the cheap like Eddie Jordan, then you have no business signing TWO rookies as drivers. They should have signed Mick + Kevin or Nico, if they were serious. While you're justified in questioning Mick's immediate teammates' abilities, you're way out of order in calling with Lapierre or Vaxiviere _"no names."_ Both have won races; and both are experienced drivers. The fact that Mick has been consistently faster than them without wearing down the tyres or using too much fuel speaks volumes to his natural talent. The only reason why Mick's car doesn't place higher in the WEC races id because the other two drivers he shares the car with are dragging them down. Face it! We're not hearing Famin talk about the possibility of calling up anyone else on the WEC team to F1. Just Mick!

Haas had to get money- Mazespin as a paydriver and Mick as a sponsor (1&1) deliverer because of his name. That was for the first Haas year. Steiner knew the car was at a very bad state and there was no use for a serious driver. Steiner wanted to train rookies to deliver for the second year (like Williams is more into the long term for their drivers, and Sargeant is probably not anymore the prefered guy). HĂŒlkenberg was a great driver, the only reason he did not drive was because of the paydrivers- they were prefered at that time. One sentence about Steiner: He was later on fired and at that point he was blaming Mick to not lose his job. Gene Haas was absolutely furious about the crashes. the costs and especially at Suzuka which was the end for Mick. Ocon and Gasley have their hard competitions since they were children. They have done a bad job lately but overall they are very good drivers. I can not see Mick outperforming them. Yeah he has a great character. But let's not forget about his crashes and especially the one in Suzuka. There are so many tracks nowadays and Mick drove too long at the f2. So he was missing practise at the formula 1 tracks. The WEC tracks are also different. Verstappen for example skipped f2 as a waste of time- so did Sargeant. The teams wanted the drivers to become better. Hard to say if being a test driver is good enough to learn about the tracks. Edit: Sargeant skipped the second year at f2 and Verstappen skipped it completly. Mick wasted 2 years there. I think his crashes were part of not knowing the tracks well enough.

    I can't believe I am on Jos' side on something. What the h**l is happening đŸ€Ș!? But, it sure does seem like they have the weakest 2nd driver of any major team. In fact, you have to go all the way down to Aston Martin to find another team where it's even clear who is #1 and #2 is (Ferrari, McLaren and Merc all seem like on any day, unclear who is best driver). Perez was never a top-flight F1 driver. But it is totally unclear whether RedBull is even emotionally, managerially, and technically capable of running two comparable drivers (they basically gave up after the Vettel/Webber 2010 season). I was thinking when Sainz became available, "whoa, RedBull really got a gift here to greatly upgrade." But they seem to have bottled it.

      Carlos and Oscar could easily be driver #1 at any team. Perez is definitely better then Russell.

    SR is a chump and junior is nothing more than Seb Vettel. He needs a superior car to win he will not win in a non dominant car the end.

    At the risk of making Max cry they should ban Jos completely from the team environment.
