Remote Island : Hammock Camp
Hey Everyone..!!
Why don't you go get yourself a brew, put your feet up and come and join me in my Canadian Canoe for a Hammock Camping trip on a remote island in the middle of beautiful Loch Awe in the North West of Scotland. Along the way we will have a little nosy at a few other islands and maybe throw in a couple of Castles for good measure too.!!
I do so hope you enjoy the video and it brings across how wonderful the North West of Scotland is for Canoeing and Camping.
Feel free to leave any comments about the video or any questions you have about the type of gear I used during the camp in the comment section below.
All the very best...
Mike

Just be sure not to do the rake section of the route in wet conditions as it would be extremely slippery. Thank you so much for giving the video a watch and also for dropping me a comment. Hey thanks for taking the time out to give my video a watch. I hope it was of some help to help plan your trip. The whole route would probably take around 5.5 hours to complete. However it took me a wee bit longer due to having to stop all the time to film. A wild camp on top of Red Pike sounds fantastic. Just pick your day as it’s pretty exposed up there in the wind. Thanks for the sub it’s very much appreciated. I’ll be getting some more content up soon hopefully once I’ve recovered from an injury I acquired last year. Thanks again for the watch and the comment and I wish you a wonderful time on the route. All the very best Mike

Hi, It’s not particularly too hard to find your way. However the area can become clagged in with low cloud all of a sudden on overcast days and you may start to veer off course. Best thing to do is to stay near the edge of the plateau and use the edge as a hand rail along the south rim. People tend to come unstuck when they venture in towards the middle of the plateau. Obviously bring a map and compass and a gps if you have one just in case. Hope you enjoy the walk if you do decide to take it on. Pick a clear day and I’m sure you’ll be fine. Lots of people to ask along the route if you’re unsure. Thanks for watching and happy hiking🙂 Mike

Hi Rowan, Thanks for the comment🙂 I personally don’t see it any harder or dangerous than Sharp Edge. So if you were quite ok with SE then you should be ok with JR. There is a dodgy step across that has to completed but after that it’s pretty much ok. There maybe a little bit more climbing involved than Sharp Edge but most of it is inside a small gully. Just make sure you do it on a very dry day as there is always a bit of seepage out of the rock. Thanks for watching my video, I hoped it helped🙂 Happy hiking Mike

Hey Noel, Thanks for giving the video a watch. Yea it’s a steep descent down from the top. My knees were hurting a bit when I arrived at the bottom. Yes the old buildings were very interesting. A lot of history there for sure.!! I love Hawaii.!! I visited Oahu a number of years ago, loved every moment I was there.!! Thank you so much for dropping me an Aloha, it made me remember my visit. All the very best my friend Mike🙂

Wow. It's November and I have been for a walk on the local park. It's now nearly dark. I am sat outside with a glass and a really good single malt from Mull. This video appeared on CZcams. Having watched it I really feel I have been with you all the way. I'm refreshed and grateful to you. Thank you

Thanks Dianna🙏 Haha yea it’s a big old backpack😃 It’s a special one for camera equipment. It has a lot of foam padding inside to help protect the equipment. That’s why it looks so big🙂 Thank you for giving the video a watch. I’m glad you enjoyed it🙂 Happy hiking Mike

Great video, many thanks for taking the time to film your trip. Amazing scenery, very nicely captured and the drone shots helped to portray the scale on this most amazing location as well as gaining access to areas you couldn't on foot. Great job!

Thank you so much David for your kind words🙏 I’m so glad you enjoyed the video. It was a fantastic few days and I’m extremely happy that I was able to capture my time in the area on video. I did really get lucky with the weather on this occasion. You’re absolutely right, the drone certainly did help get to the hard to reach areas. Thankfully I didn’t hit anything while filming the fern covered castle or the cemetery😰 It would’ve been a nightmare trying to get it back😬 Thanks again for watching and for dropping me a comment, it’s very much appreciated🙏 All the very best🙂 Mike
