    Reasons not to get the Stoic 2 includes: Very few colour selections I think the black and white option is a bit on the boring side, would prefer something more fun, bike frame triangle too small so can not even fit 2 water bottles in there and can not fit a proper size battery there in case I ever wanted to do a e-bike conversion on it, no attachment points on the frame for stuff like kickstand, bike rack or even proper mudguards. So since I also want my bike to function in city life this one is not for me.

    • @purpleRider05
      @purpleRider05 Před 9 měsíci

      This bike is absolutely not made for the things you’ve listed here, this is a semi hardcore trail/all mountain Hardtail. Kick stands and racks do not belong on this frame it sounds like you need more of a cross country style bike that would fit your criteria

    Last year I traded my Grand Canyon for a Stoic 2 and couldn't have been happier. I'm 6'1 and got a large, I immediately felt much better on the Stoic than my Grand Canyon. (reach was a bit shorter, which relieved my back 😉) Coming out of the box I changed the drivetrain to a Microshift Advent-X (10-48), I needed a bit more range and it is a nice budget drivetrain. Then the dropper post, ODI grips, some decent pedals and made everything tubeless. I gave my fork a service at the start of the season. I cleaned an regreased everything, put some foam rings (there aren't any in...) and added a bit more oil in the damper (went from 5ml to 10). Now it feels a lot smoother than before. 😊 Planned upgades: Brakes!! Next upgrade will be Magura MT5's and in the long run I'll be looking for a 150mm fork.

  • @80sAudiSport
    @80sAudiSport Před 2 lety

    I have one too... And to a high degree I would agree with @MTB Alpine County. The bike seems like a budget friendly durable option, no super light weight, no fancy additionals. Frame has a little messy welds (made in Cambodia...). To a high degree Pinkbike's review put some good highlights on the purchase one does; dropper is an absolute need to get the versatility of such a hardtail. I hated the grips, so ODI or Renthal came to the rescue. Then proper pedals & Brand-X dropper. Then a 11-46 cassette, just in case... Meaning, the budget bike WILL rack up some additional cost immediately to be usable as an "out of the box" bike. Think of it, why would you not just start off with the bits making more sense, than to buy twice? Well, availability. I was super lucky and fetched one just before Christmas, arriving within a week. So if this platform with a few essential add-ons is enough (like for me, I just wanted to go a bit more "capable simplicity" since having a 10 year old Fuel EX), it does so just fine. If you really drool on a bit more hairy parts, I believe budget wise it only makes sense if they too are "budget friendly". For me I see Ragley actually becoming more of an option, when considering the Bomber Z2 fork and MT500 brakes on their Big Al versus what I have had to do with the Stoic 2. Two pointers & one observation: the 30 toothed front seems to run out of speed already on basic "commuting" + the MT200s and Resin pads only really isn't much. I am 6'3 (190cm) and was guided to a Large bike - maybe it is because of the long cockpit Big Sur and Fuel EX as comparison, but I cannot help to feel it is a bit short. My changes: Brand X dropper, NS bikes platform pedals, Renthal lock-on grips, Maxxis Ikon tan walls as allrounders for ashalt, gravel and destination trail usage. Garmin 1030 plus. Future changes: Evan's MTB showcased the possibility with Marzocchi Bomber Z2 140mm 1:1 upgrade, but ideally I'd get a Z1 150-160mm and better brakes, alike Magura MT5. you can see some shots of it here: instagram.com/wauola
