I lie here, under a small cement marker, not with my name on it, but a number. I'm one of the hundreds of unidentified, 'unknown' dead of Gettysburg. I'm one of the many 'men'... only 16 when I drew my final breath... that fought and died around a town I'd never even heard of before. Many of my buddies... that I shivered, marched, ate, slept, suffered & talked of going back home with... now lie around me. Also 'unknown'. My folks back home, and that dark haired beauty that promised she'd marry me when I got back, never knew where I died. Or even THAT I died. I just never came back. As you watch the events around you in your country today, tell me... That last 'full measure' me & the boys here gave... is it STILL being honored? Do WE still matter? Was it worth the price we paid? Is it still, "not in vain"? I sure hope so. God... BLESS America! #207

Love your work buddy, really appreciate what you do. I only have one question though. Why is it that you've never made a trip to Vimmy Ridge and the memorial there? I would have REALLY loved to see you do a video on it as to me it's one of, if not THE most beautiful and powerful War memorial ever built. There aren't any vids or documentaries that do it enough justice and those that have been made, always leave me feeling frustrated and really very sad at the lack of depth and description about the Memorial and events that took place there.

My Father served with the 1st infantry division ( Big Red 1) as a sniper on the northern end of the bulge, they dug in and held the line for several weeks, He never talked about it, the only thing I think he ever said was " he'd never experienced cold like they did at Bastogne". I think he just wanted to put those times behind him. I'm so thankful to all the soldiers who held the line that year, things might be a little different if the Germans had broken through!

To me it seems questionable if Reno and Benteen's contingent posessed the tactics tto extract Custer's men from their fate assuming they were able to even embark on the mission. Reno's ability to organize the attempt, or lack thereof, is self evident. Benteen seemed busy just taking over for Reno in readying defense of the hill. It will always be a debatable part of the battle. Benteen's balking at the opportunity might've been in realistic consideration of their chances. Should Paulus have tried to have the 6th Army break out at Stalingrad or just follow orders? He wound up surrendering anyway.

The Nazi’s greatest control over these people was their greatest weakness. Had they incorporated these citizens into their efforts of conquering, Germany would have won the war with military superiority. some of their great minds were Jewish. This total tragic disregard of life and morality was their downfall. This was intolerable by most of the world and the cause of so much disloyalty amongst Germans. And shame on you CZcams for censorship of history. You are no different than a Nazi trying to hide the atrocities that they committed.

Saving Private Ryan is uncomfortable to watch, as a good war movie should be when depicting actual historical events and combat. Don't take my word for it, think back to the images and film footage of the holocaust. There are reasons why General Dwight Eisenhower and others of the top Allied brass in the ETO of WWII wanted the images of the holocaust made in the raw. They wanted those images to be uncomfortable undeniable and unforgettable. It would be easy to believe that such things could have never possibly occurred without those images. When veterans such as Dick Winters endorse Saving Private Ryan that is all the endorsement we need. Those images should have been uncomfortable, undeniable and unforgettable and for many of the same reasons that the images and the footage of the holocaust are unforgettable uncomfortable and undeniable. We should never forget what happened back then. It is hard to imagine the events of WWII. It all sounds like an unbelievable story. If those events had never actually occured and a fictional story resembling the events of WWII had been written we wouldn't believe such things could ever happen, but they did happen and we can't forget them! As time passes and that generation fades away into distant memory the more at risk we become of history repeating it's self. And as much as we may honor and respect that generation, if we are rational and have a shred of common sense, we don't want to live through what they went through ever again. I am grateful to God for having grown up around WWII veterans and their spouses, the Greatest Generation, as a kid in the 80s and 90s. When I was a kid it seemed every silver hair'd old man was a WWII veteran and every grey hair'd little old lady was the spouse or a widow of a WWII veteran. Even back then I knew I was privileged and blessed to be around them, to hear their stories and learn from them. Looking back on it now I still don't think I knew how good I had it back then and how much of a blessing they really were. Now all of the ones I knew, family and friends are long gone and in a better place. I feel sorry for younger folks now who weren't as blessed as I was in those ways. That puts the burden on them even more so to not forget what that generation did and what they went through and to not repeat mistakes of the past.
