In this quick tip I will show a way for lifting a robotic pool cleaner out of a pool without hurting your back.
Being tall (6'2") I do suffer from lower back pain from time to time.
If you just stand on the side you need to lean forward to hold the cleaner over the water to allow the water to drain out. This can be very hard on your back - it certainly is on mine.
But if you stand with your feet either side of a corner you can lift the pool cleaner out and stand straight up while the water drains out resulting in much less strain on your lower back.
I hope this helps you.

That is odd. I must have used this method hundreds of times and it has worked every time.
What type of coating does your pool have and how powerful is your pressure washer? Thanks
It is a vinyl liner. The pressure washer label says it is max 170 bar. The power of the water stream is reduced by pool water to some extent plus the water stream hits the liner at an acute angle rather than head on.
@@EasyPoolCleaning Thanks!
This worked like a charm, thank you!
Glad it helped!
just curious , can we just turn on motor and release the psi gauge at big filter to remove the air form the whole pool and then close the gauge once the water comes out?
That valve will only release the air that is trapped in the filter housing. Once that has all been expelled only water will come out. Thanks for the comment.

How do you get everything to settle to the bottom, and then not get stirred up when you vacuum?
You can use flocculant if you need to to make it settle. Then vacuum quite slowly on waste, ideally using a vacuum head without brushes (which stir it up) such as this one www.amazon.com/Fibropool-Professional-Flexible-Swimming-Vacuum/dp/B01JYX4WPW?tag=boogsuk00-20
@@EasyPoolCleaning I have used floc. I will try a vacuum without brushes. Thank you!
turn off your power before adjusting from WASTE to FILTER. And always turn the adjuster in a clock wise direction only. I know this is an old video, but i just found it.
I do turn the pump off in the video but having just watched the video again after all these years I can't believe I turned the valve handle straight from waste to filter as I never do that!
Thank you for your video ! I have been trying to remove all the dead algea and debris on the bottom of my pool by doing vacuum to waste. But the main problem is the water level drops the quick. Any tip you could give me would be great. Thank you again. Hope you will reply ❤
That is a problem. All you can do is top the pool up as much as possible before you start, leave the hose running and then work as quickly as you can without disturbing the debris. If the level drops to the bottom of the skimmers before you have finished then you can just stop where you are, switch off the pump and top up some more.
Thank you Sir 😊
You have the same port valve as me - any advise on how to open it? I need to replace the rubber gaskets but am struggling to open the top (apparently I need to twist it open, as its not the conventional nut/bolt fastener)
I have replaced the valve since I made this video as it was leaking and couldn't be repaired. However I did remove the lid to try and repair it. I seem to remember it was on very tight and needed to be turned about half an inch anti-clockwise to release it. I used a large oil filter wrench to free it in the end.
@@EasyPoolCleaning Thanks - I also came right by using a wood file and hammer which i gently tapped in the grooves to loosen it up. This was my first time doing this (replacing the gasket) so I learned a lot - like needing to scrape out the old ring and use bonding glue when putting in the new one, but im happy to report that the replacement was successful
Well done :-)
Very helpful! Thank you😊
I am glad you found it useful
Do you have any experience with filters using crystals? I was told they would keep the pool cleaner. My sand filter needed to be replaced with one using crystals and it's a disaster now trying to get my pool clean.
Not crystals I haven't. What sort of crystals? I use glass beads now.
@@EasyPoolCleaning I will find out Monday when the installer comes to add more crystals. When it was first installed the filter pressure went high after each clean forcing me to backwash after each clean. (Didn't need to do that with my old sand filter). That doesn't happen now. After my last clean the pump went off on the timer. Next morning the pool was still clean. 24 hours after the pump came back on with the timer it was dirty like I hadn't cleaned it. Demoralising.
I don't suppose the dirt is dead algae is it?
I don't think so. Just normal calima sand@@EasyPoolCleaning
@@EasyPoolCleaning I used to have a 500mm sand filter. However, the guy who replaced it when it became faulty decided to put a 400mm filter in with crystals. I've never had the pool clean since. Today I'm having it ripped out and a new 500mm filter put in with sand again. 500 euros loss. The initial installer doesn't care my pool isn't clean. He thinks if the pressure gauge is O.K then everything is perfect!
Hey whenever i vaccuum there is always a bit of dead algae that poofs out and then clouds up the water so i can never fully get all of them without disturbing the pile. Then the algae settles like 3 hours later. Any tipsv
Where does it come out from? The return jets?
@@EasyPoolCleaning no like when im vacuuming the pile at the bottom doesnt stay on the floor but instead poofs up when i move my vacuum head near it. Therefore i only really get like 70% of the pile and then 30% gets poofed up
I understand. It is very light so you have to move the vacuum very slowly. What kind of vacuum head do you have? I find that those with brushes around the edge are not good for this as they disturb the algae dust before it gets sucked up. The best are those with just wheels such as this one www.amazon.com/dp/B01JYX4WPW/?tag=easypoolcleaning-20
@@EasyPoolCleaning yea my vacuum head has brushes around the edge is one of those triangle one
@@TgrjyeI have the same vacuum head and have the same problem! Glad I found your comment! Will be getting a brushless vacuum head today!
Thank you so much for this explanation! Exactly what I needed.
Glad it was helpful!
I think hose material matters? Cause when I tried this the end would go down a little and then shoot up to top.
Once you have fed the hose hand over hand until you get to the end you don't let go of it but push it into the skimmer hole. Are you doing something different Frank?
You rock! Hope it works….thanks!
Let me know
@@EasyPoolCleaning , I’m here in the good old floundering United States of America and it’s 7pm and my pool is clean now😀👍🏻I’ve vacuumed my pool and used the return flow inside my pool at least a hundred times to fill my vac hose and for the last 8 years and for the first time, I really couldn’t get prime on my filter pump. Yes…..I put the entire hose on a higher plane on the pool deck and forced every bit of the hose down to the bottom of the pool and after I did that, like you said, there was water slowly coming out of the hose end. I stuck it in the skimmer pot and now I’m finished. Pool is vacuumed! Thanks buddy! Are you a kiwi or an Aussie? Whatever you are, you are my man today! 😀
I am glad it helped. I am neither - I am a Brit.
😂
making the best of the worst system ever made
How do you remove the skimmer hose from the connection it will not come off the pump
I assume you mean you can't pull it out from the hole at the bottom of the skimmer. Try switching off the pump so there is no suction.
THANK YOU 🎉🎉 This was the best video out there!
I am glad it helped. Thanks for the comment Kristen.
Thanks for making this. I had no idea what I was doing wrong before!
I am glad it helped Andrew
Did you use flocculant before you do this?
I didn't in this case and don't normally
Another way is to use a robotic pool cleaner, which sucks the dirty into its own filter. What do you think?
yes you can, but depending on how dirty your pool is, it may mean a lot of trips back and forth cleaning out the robot. I prefer the method in this video.
Agreed. When a pool is this dirty the filter in a robotic pool cleaner simply couldn't cope. Plus a pool robot moves quite a lot of water as it goes so it is likely to disturb much of the dirt which will go into suspension and then settle back on the bottom some time afterwards.
Hello im from Germany I live in Thailand we have a 50m3 pool I like u Video I do to waste from vacuum but my water go down!! So skimmer soon empty what I do wrong, I have to switch some Ventil?
The water level will always go down when you vacuum to waste as the water is not recirculating to the pool. To vacuum to waste you need to top the water level up first and then work quickly. Obviously, if you vacuum on the filter setting the water level will not go down.
@@EasyPoolCleaning I think I can close one Valve for not go water down I see 2 pipe to go to the filter before the bump
@@EasyPoolCleaning have you one email? I will send some pics from bump and pipe system
You can find me on the about page and send a Facebook message
Stupid post, I can think of a better way
do you get more suction power going to waste instead of filter mode? Can I bypass the vac plate on top of the skimmer basket, since I'm bypassing the filter?
You do get a little more suction as the water isn't having to pass through the filter. You can plug the hose directly into the hole at the bottom of the skimmer without using a skimmer plate. Thanks for the question and for watching.
Worth it
Where should i put my filter waste or backwash
It depends on your situation. I run out my backwash hose into my front garden. You could divert it to a convenient drain perhaps.
@@EasyPoolCleaning please are you on WhatsApp
So you put a solar blanket on to save water through less evaporation the waste water cleaning it before taking it off? The braincell of the year award goes too…..
Moron. Clearly you don't use a solar blanket to "save water" you do it to prevent the water level dropping too much due to evaporation meaning you don't need to top the pool up too often. And the main function of a solar cover is to retain heat anyway.
@@EasyPoolCleaning I think I hit a nerve.I’ll make sure your award is awarded braincell.
Idiots never hit a nerve with me. I just feel sorry for them.
I just cleaned my cover but not on the pool. If you have a reel near the shallow end, this is what you do: hose down the first 3 feet then start reeling in the cover 3 feet. Hose down the next 3 feet and reel in that 3 feet. Repeat this process until you have 3 or 4 feet of cover sitting on the pool. Then you can wet vacuum the dirty water remaining on the cover and reel the rest in. With this method, no dirty water falls in the deep end. If some does happen to fall in the shallow end, no big deal.
Good tip David. Thanks.
@@EasyPoolCleaning you’re welcome
Hi I only have backwash, clean, return, aerator, and an automatic pool vacuum, do you think I can get the job done?
It won't be easy but you can do it. The best I can suggest, if your pool is very dirty, would be to manually vacuum on the filter setting (clean setting on your valve) but stop every few minutes and backwash before the filter becomes clogged and dirt starts going back into the pool. Good luck.
Crikey, I've been doing it wrong for yonks. Now I know the correct method. Thanks, mate!
No problem 👍
I am vacuuming on waste and it is blowing back into the pool...
Then you are not vacuuming on waste Tracy. On waste the water bypasses the filter and is ejected from the pool system; it doesn't go back into the pool. Where does the water go when you backwash?
@@EasyPoolCleaning it is going out the waste hose, but while vacuuming on waste it is going out the waste hose AND blowing back into the pool..
Without seeing your setup it is difficult to say. If water is coming out of your backwash/waste hose and also going back into the pool it may be a problem with your multiport valve, perhaps a faulty gasket, that is allowing water to go to the waste and back to the pool.
@@EasyPoolCleaning ok I just replaced the whole valve and spider gasket, It filters fine, but for some reason it is blowing back in and out the waste at the same time..when on waste..thank you so much
I hope you get it sorted. It still sounds like some water is leaking between the waste section in the valve and an adjacent section.
Don t have a vacuum line how to stop the waste going in the sand filter
Sorry Margaret, I am not entirely sure what you mean. Do you mean you do not have a dedicated vacuum port so you plug the vacuum hose into the skimmer? To stop the waste going through the filter you need to select waste on your multiport valve.
So all of that dirt and soap is going into the pool?
Dirt and dried chlorine/chemicals, correct
Where can I get one of those vacuums
You will find one here - amzn.to/3S1KCTa
@@EasyPoolCleaning thanks
Hi, any one know why I am not getting a ‘random - enough pattern , (+/-) . Very easy areas in the btm of the pool will never get done even after 8 hours?? . 15x 25 pool with no really deep end. Thanks if you have ideas
That certainly seems to happen for no apparent reason as I have had it too. I tried going out every 30 minutes/hour and just manually moving the vacuum head to another part of the pool which did seem to help a bit. Since then I have bitten the bullet and bought a Dolphin robotic cleaner so haven't used the automatic cleaner since.
How do I connect my hose to the filter on waste mode? I’m just learning how to take care of a pool. Idk how to fill the hose full of water this way
You connect the hose the same way as you do when you vacuum the pool - normally into the hole at the bottom of the skimmer. You can fill it with water as I show in this video - czcams.com/video/Z5gyOMjwnH4/video.html
Finally 💪
I hope it helps
My pump only has backwash, rinse, filter and winter. What one do I use for waste?
Although water will be expelled from the pool when you use backwash or rinse they will not do the same as waste as the water will pass through the filter instead of going straight out of the pool. Do you have a valve that allows you to drain the pool (without the water passing through the filter)?
@@EasyPoolCleaning can I still do it if it passes through the filter
@@larios86 That would defeat the purpose. You vacuum to waste to bypass the filter so it doesn't become clogged due to the amount of dirt you have to remove.
Brilliant
I hope it helps
Terrible video. Not recorded properly, no explanation of how it was properly attached to ensure it would wind up straight, lose the music please.
It was an experiment with the CZcams shorts, which it seems is a waste of time anyway
@@EasyPoolCleaning I would HIGHLY recommend setting up your phone in landscape mode for videos. (Long side horizontal). I suspect that many people, including myself, when they see the vertical orientation, will just skip to the next available video.
CZcams shorts had to be in portrait mode and be less than 60 seconds long
@@EasyPoolCleaning Ooooh. I see. That right there would keep me from ever using that format. Video should always be recorded in the same format as you would watch on computer or TV.

My pool is an overflow not skimmer. My inlet jets are on the floor of the pool. My vacuum port is on the side. A simple pipe modification in the pump room allows me to push water out of the vacuum port after I connect my hose to port and vacuum head. Run for few seconds in this state then return to vacuum. Could not be easier or quicker. Modification very simple using a couple of new valves, a couple of 90 degree bends and a couple of tee fittings.

Hi. You clearly don't have any suction. If you vacuum on filter does it pick up? If it does then it sounds like you may need to open a valve on your outlet pipe so that the water has somewhere to go.
