      I don’t see why not. I know some players aren’t keen on the use of allies (and quite a few tournaments disallow them), but as long as your opponents are happy with it then Wood Elves are an obvious choice to compliment Brettonians.

    Haven't watched the video yet (will do later), but the rules are very clear: "If a model with this special rule rolls a natural 6 when making a roll To Wound" . When you roll a 6 to hit with poison, you can choose to have it be an auto-wound or roll to wound normally hoping for a 6 so you get the armour bane special rule in.

    • @ScatterDieGuy
      @ScatterDieGuy Před 2 měsíci

      Hope you enjoy it when you get round to watching it. You are indeed correct, when you roll a 6 to hit with poisoned attacks you have to choose whether to take the automatic hit or risk it trying for armour bane. The question is, which choice maximises your chances to scoring an unsaved wound? That’s the question the video answers.

    • @daemonishere

      @@ScatterDieGuy I finally got around to watching it just now. Excellent analysis of the rules. The tables were very informative and the rules of thumb at the end certainly look like an excellent summary! Armour Bane 5 seems next to impossible to play with for my armies though, but they don't have too much poisoned attacks anyway :) That being said, if an opponent has a good armor save, elemental magic can make this story about poison a whole lot more interesting as well with its -2 saves spell. On a side note: lovely instrument in the back!

    • @ScatterDieGuy
      @ScatterDieGuy Před 2 měsíci

      I’ve 100% added wood elf arrow options to my list for future videos so will definitely be looking into this. As with this video, it’s unlikely to be a straight answer but will depend on the situation (who are you shooting at and what other effects are in play). Without having run the numbers, my gut is that against heavily armoured enemies the AP form Arcane Bodkins may be more valuable, particularly as this works with rather than against the Armour Bane you already have from the bow. If you are writing an all-comers list then the automatic wound from Poisoned Attacks with Hagbane Tips is probably still better against a lot of opponents, but I need to crunch the numbers properly to work out where the switchover point is.

    • @andrewbakescakes9684
      @andrewbakescakes9684 Před 2 měsíci

      @@liangweihao7932 - I would say go for Hagbane. Not all armies can even have access to 3+ (Beastmen, Woodelves). If you want something more "all comers", Hagbane might be best. I would say Hagbane is wasted on a unit with Razor Standard as well, since you get Poison on rolls to hit, but armour bane on rolls to wound (so your Poison hits will never be AP2). And, since I guess you are Woodelves, take a Wizard with Elementalism and the Lore Familiar. If you draw an opponent with high armour, then take Plague of Rust as one of your spells. If your opponent is a low armour faction, then take another spell. Units of Sisters of the Thorn are good too. They are effectively L2 Wizards with Lore Familiar, so again, take Plague of Rust as needed with them, cast, and let fly the poison.

    Love the conclusion, However I would also take into consideration how many hits I have that were not 6's as making my opponent take more saves is nearly always better. after all I want to increase his/her chance to fail as that is really what gives the unsaved wounds. The small number of poison auto wounds may not change the outcome by a significant amount if I have already generated more hits than average. It can be truly difficult to decide one way or the other unless it clear which is better

    • @ScatterDieGuy
      @ScatterDieGuy Před 3 měsíci

      Thanks for commenting, glad you enjoyed the video. To clarify on this point, you only have to make the choice if you roll a 6 to hit. If you don’t, you would just carry on as normal, with a chance to activate Armour Bane as you would in any other circumstance. No part of this will effect what happens with those attacks, we’re only looking here at the scenario where you’ve already rolled a 6 to hit and need to decide for that specific hit whether to take the automatic wound or to chance it and try for Armour Bane. If you don’t roll the 6 to hit, you always have to roll to wound, so are always in with the chance of getter Armour Bane. Hope that makes sense?

    The terrible win rate of the dwarfs shows how key movement is in the game. They need to add movement to the dwarfs. The old 3 inch move just leads to toxic play styles of corner camping. Or the introduction of Goat/ram cavalry. I understand the nostalgia but for me gameplay and fun is the most important. Or they need to introduce movement runes / banners. or a banner that makes enemy unit impetuous as hammerers rely on being charged. When an army is pigeoned whole to a specific part style things get stale quick. The other option is a monstrous infantry or cav model. Such as Giant bears that either characters can riide or just loan monsters. Personally the thought of Goat/ram riders suits the aesthetic well

    • @ScatterDieGuy
      @ScatterDieGuy Před 3 měsíci

      Absolutely agree that with this edition movement seems to be more important than ever before. That said, I personally wouldn’t want to change the Dwarf’s base movement characteristic. It’s fundamental to what Dwarfs are as an army. I’m hoping that over time more players will learn how to work around that limitation and maximise their many other strengths as a faction, and we’ll start to see the meta swing back in their direction a bit. Goat cavalry does sound cool though!

      Thanks for the insight on that. It’s probably a good target and I would certainly expect it to narrow to that longer term if the game proves to be genuinely well balanced. Many thanks for the work you do. It's VERY helpful, and actually informative. You have a great twist on the TOW topic. Two cents: 1. I belive it would be great, if you'd show some short story/scenario where somebody did something and it backfired, while if he/she knew what the probabilities are, he/she would restrain or change that decision. 2. If you could help us and showcase some tools one might use to dive into probabilities of their armies, that would be great. I think you use Excel mostly, but probably there are some tools like anydice, grimchart and other, which might come in handy. I'd love to hear your opinion.

      Thanks so much for your comments. It means a lot to hear how people are finding these helpful. I’ll take the feedback onboard for future videos. In terms of tools, I’m mostly using Excel. For the big magic probabilities table in this video I wrote a Matlab script as it was easier to code in that than in Excel for that level of complexity, but 99% of the time you can solve most of these problems in any old spreadsheet package.
