Small
Not sure what you're referring to here, but these things were anything but small.
Can hunt, is not hunting-
Agree to disagree. Yes, we were on a property that was partially high-fenced, but it's a very large property, and animals were able to get out, so were not "closed in." This outfitter does most of the scouting with a vehicle, then we got out to stalk. We stalked about 500 yards on my dad's animal and set up to get the shot. For mine we assumed they would be coming across the road, so were able to set up there. Were we hiking miles into the backcountry to kill an elk? No, but it was certainly a challenging hunt in its own right.
Twice he said alignment was done after the lift but BEFORE the new tires mounted. Shouldn’t aligned be done AFTER bigger tires installed? And what about speedometer recalibration and headlight adjustment? I have a set of Raptor takeoffs in my truck bed and about to make the plunge
Yes, it would have probably been good to have the alignment done with the new tires, just in case, but it has worked out well over the past 3 years - no unusual wear or drive. I've since went with a new set of tires in a different brand, and still no issues. I used the FORSCAN software to update my speedometer, and manually adjusted my headlights. I hope that helps!
They won’t if you have max tow package. How I ended up with a set so cheap lol
I have the max tow package, and these fit just fine with the 2.5" level.
Since you were at the San Marcos headwaters I was a little surprised the Comal Springs just down the road wasn’t a part of your tour. Or the San Antonio.
Yeah, there were quite a few rivers close to our route that we didn't hit. Some we planned for but simply didn't have time, others we just hadn't considered. Based on folks' suggestions in the comments, I'm planning at least one more, if not a few, trips to explore some of the rivers we didn't hit on this one. Thanks for following along!
wow lets level the truck and then lift the back up to make it not leveled and look worse
Ha! Opinions are cool. Thanks for stopping by!

Does this method work for other grills?
It may work on other charcoal grills that have a tight-fitting lid. My dad has one of the cheap clamshell-style squarish grills, and it didn't work all that well, as there is too much space for air to escape. The Weber kettle's design is ideal for this type of cooking.
Good video. I just ordered one. The installation seems simple. Thanks.
Thanks! Yes, installation is simple indeed. I'm still liking mine, and it's held up well over a few years.
Was your bottom vent all the way open or toned down? Looks awesome ! Thanks for the video!
Thanks! I leave my bottom vent about 1/4 way open, and only touch the top vent to adjust temperature through the cook.
So you need to fill it up with oil after you put in the new filter ?
my parents would take us camping in Colorado. We would fish the lake were the rio grand river starts.
It's an incredibly beautiful area up there. We enjoyed catching trout in the lake - until the snowstorm ran us off. I'm hoping to bring my family back up there to camp again. Thanks for stopping by!
Sorry the the tributaries actually make the rivers
Yes, I agree! Even those that have a source with springs are still relying on run-in from surrounding tributaries. Thanks for stopping by!
lol... dude, be honest. Your gas mileage is directly connected to your admitted lead foot. If you stomp that pedal, it will burn conSIDERably more fuel than if you slowly accelerate. Like, it's not a trivial difference. It's a huge difference. If you want to get good gas mileage, you're never gonna be revving it up. 16mpg is atrocious. Sounds like you accelerate and drive pretty damn fast. That said, you still enjoying it?
Absolutely! Lead-foot-itis is definitely the culprit. I'm still loving this truck. I've added larger tires and a bit of lift, and I'm getting better mileage now than when I first got it. I have learned what it likes in different situations, and have cut back on making it go vrooom! Thanks for stopping by!
Love this. I have always been intrigued by where rivers begin. I trace them on google maps. I’d love to make this trip too. And after the TX rivers, I want to see the big boys, Miss., Arkansas, etc. I got pretty close to the head waters of the Colorado in the Rockies. So cool.
Thanks! I've spent WAY too many hours tracing rivers on google - this trip was a long time coming. I'm already planning another to see how many more I can see. More google map searches. 😆
I keep getting bitter tasting meat when I put wood chunks ahead of the burn, not sure what I’m doing wrong. How do you get around the “dirty smoke” with your burn? Great vid btw.
I wonder is if the wood you're using is too wet, and/or if the chunks are too large. Using a good charcoal, the base should be clean heat, and whatever wood you add would be the culprit. The only time I've had issues with a bitter flavor was using an offset smoker and using wood that wasn't seasoned enough. You may start there, and see if you get any improvement.
@@TheGoodeLifeOutdoors Thanks for your response. Cheers.
Dope
Thanks!
Dude that’s awesome. I’m looking at a used one in green right now. Does $800 for a clean, barely used one with a Larry seat and dolly sound like a fair deal? I love the foam flooring.
Thanks! $800 is not a bad price if it truly is barely used. I paid a bit less for mine, but it was older, and I probably still overpaid a bit due to its true condition. It still does what I need it to do, so I'm happy. Best of luck! They are a great fishing platform for shallow waters.
So I ended up “adopting” some boats from a friend that is no longer able to Kayak due to shoulder issues. I think the one I’m going to make my primary fishing boat is a Native Manta Ray 14’. Are those Larry chairs pretty universal? It looked like it just sits down in there and uses two straps to secure it? Also, I’m in Spring Branch, TX, west of Canyon Lake. Let’s fish!
@@wilkinsonfamily3342 Congrats on the new boats! The Native looks to be a good platform, though I notice it's designed for a on-deck seat pad. On my Diablo, there are slots molded into the deck specific to the shape of the bottom of the Larry chair. The legs of that chair run fore-to-aft, so unless that seat space of the Native is wide enough, you'd probably have to build some sort of riser for a chair like that to fit on. There are other raised kayak chairs with legs that run side-to-side, so those might be a better choice if you wanted a raised seat. Do keep in mind, the Native is fairly narrow, so it you do raise your center of gravity, it may get tippy. I love Canyon Lake! I have some property near there where we hunt, and I've brought my kayak up there to get on the water during the heat of the day. I've caught some nice bass out of there. Is the water level coming up now that we've got some rain?
Damn that sucks tho you draw blood you pay full price
Yeah, but that's pretty typical with guided hunts. I'm still pretty bummed about it, but have another hunt planned for the fall and hope to get redemption.
Interesting. No backing?
Nope, I don't use backing on my inshore reels - just braid straight on the spool. Not the main reason, but it does allow me to keep fishing if I happen to lose a chunk of line to a snag or large fish.
Your not worried if you do that often enough the kettle will burn holes where the charcoal is against the metal?
I've had this kettle for at least 10 years now, and yes, there is some corrosion in some parts of the grill where I typically have my fires - whether it's a snake, offset fire or similar. I recently sanded everything down and resprayed it will high-temp grill paint to get some more life out of it. Especially down here on the Texas coast, these grills have a lifespan - and the more you use them, the shorter that is. I've kept this one up as well as I can, and hope to get a few more years out of it, but know I will eventually have to replace it with another.
I owned property on the Aransas River in Bee County many years ago. Of course, it’s a dinky river in comparison to these rivers, but it’s a lot closer to you and still a fascinating area to track the headwaters. Interestingly enough, highly treated wastewater from the city of Beeville is one of the biggest sources of water into this river basin. I had alligators and monster gar in the river on my property many years ago. Great channel. First time here.
Oh wow, that's pretty cool! I am planning another river trip, and the Aransas is on my list. I didn't know about the Beeville wastewater connection - that could be an interesting tidbit! Thanks for letting me know!
@@TheGoodeLifeOutdoors absolutely. Highway 202 about 3 miles east of Beeville you will find a bridge over Poesta Creek (a tributary into the Aransas). There should be a small dirt road next to the bridge that allows access to the creek. Underneath, you’ll find clearish running water, huge carp, a decent photo spot for your next trip. I can attest this exists 20+ years ago. 😂
@@haroldbeauchamp3770 Excellent, thank you! I just looked on the satellite view and sure enough, looks like it's there. I'm not sure when I'll plan my next trip, but this is definitely on the list!
Such a pretty snake
Thanks! And the results are tasty!
Bottom vent? Open? Looks good
Yes, I keep my bottom vent constant about 1/4 open, and move the top vent only to control temperature. Thanks!
Me encanta la cara de satisfacción al haber hecho el trabajo uno mismo, saludos cordiales desde Aguascalientes México. 🙋🏻✌️
Muchas gracias. ¡Te agradezco que mires!
Hello, I too applied this to my truck, and this is a project that I would definitely pay a company to install again. It's been about 5 months since I applied the Hurculiner, and it has completely lost its shine and has also deteriorated leaving behind the factory paint to bleed through. I want to make clear, I don't use either vehicle for work, it primarily sits all the time, with that said I'm highly disappointed with this product. My other vehicle (F-250), I previosly took to a professional LineX installer, and the difference was night and day. I do not recommend this Hurculiner product. Spend the extra few hundred dollars and get yourself a lifetime warranty and be satisfied with the end results by using a professional. Btw, I'm an avid dyi guy and this took me three days from start to finish. The professional installer had it all finished in less than 6 hours.
Yes, I completely agree that a professionally-applied product is the way to go on this. I'm curious about your Herculiner deteriorating, as I have not had similar results. Mine is holding up well after over 3 years, and I abuse the heck out of it. It has worn through where I drag my kayak in and out, but for the most part, it's still adhered well (except for a few thin places).
@@TheGoodeLifeOutdoorsPrior to application, I prepped the surfices correctly as instructed and took my time, this was process was not rushed in any way nor did I cut any corners. I applied three coats, and was initially satisfied. However, after three months it began to fade completely and the thickness has deteriorated. I live in SoCal so no harsh environment was to blame. I'm not sure what caused this to happen other than the product being faulted.
@@apolloplanb5209 Yeah, that all sounds like the right process. I wonder if you got a bad batch?
I Luv My Bear Claws!
Awesome! I love mine, too!
ive had alot of trucks. the worst bedliner is those plastic inserts, they just harbor moisture underneath and are so slippery as to be DNAGEROUS. In that light on a new truck i would leave stock alone unless you know u r gonna be giving it heavy ahrd use BUT even with heavy hard use i noticed with my one truck thick spray in liner. it was great in most respects but try move a 300 lb fridge on that soft pliable surface by yourself! unless u r a hulk , YOU WONT. the legs sink in and 1 guy cant easily maneuver it.
I agree on the plastic bedliners. I've found the Herculiner has hardened up over time, so while it's not the toughest liner out there, it does allow for heavy material movement without catching. That said, at the edge of the bed at the tailgate, the constant dragging of my kayak out and in has completely worn through the liner and the paint - here is where I'm thankful for the aluminum body on the F150 as there is no corrosion in that spot.
Just did this to my 2018 f150. Did you use the blue or the red thread locker and is it necessary?
Blue for sure. Is it necessary? Probably better than finding out otherwise. 😆
@@TheGoodeLifeOutdoors the instructions don’t say to use thread locker that’s why I ask. And you’re supposed to check the torque at 100 miles and 500 and 1000 so wouldn’t your think it’s pointless since it’s gonna break the bond? Probably will take the tires off this weekend and add some of my orange thread locker (stronger then blue but removable) just to be safe
You can smoke anything on a weber kettle 💪
Heck yeah! Thanks for stopping by!
I enjoyed watching this video. In 2018, I took a road trip in which I followed the Red River from where I-44 crosses it all of the way upstream to Palo Duro Canyon State Park. I explored the Park and visited both Amarillo and Lubbock as well as driving on I-27 all of the way from its north end to its south end. This was the first time in my life that I have visited Palo Duro Canyon State park as well as Amarillo and Lubbock.
Thanks for following along! Sounds like you had a great trip on the Red! Palo Duro is definitely a cool spot, and I'm looking forward to getting back.

Nice! Come and do mine too. 🤣🤣
Ha! Thanks for watching!
Hope you guys weathered the storm okay. We lost power and limb down, but okay here so far!
Yes, we had less than 1/10" of rain, and no issues with services - Beryl pretty much missed us. I'm glad y'all are ok!
Glad Rockport is safe. My son & his family are vacationing in Corpus Christi. They used to live in Rockport 4 years ago. Thankful you are safe.👍
Thank you!
Haha. I was thinking i was crazy and not sure why i had to run a tap thru all the holes. Why the hell wouldn't Ford use an actual bolt in there.
I understand they're reasoning. Many folks may not use this option, so the holes can stay protected by the paint. It's easy enough to drive them in there if you need them.
Hi The Goode Life Outdoors! First of all you make amazing videos, keep it up! My name is Camila and I'm from the Argentinian news agency LANA. San Marcos represent! I’ve been here for 4 years and it’s the most beautiful river in the world. I love it. I’ve lived on it and walked to it nearly every since I lived here
It’s got 2 sets of Chevy keys that I gifted it 💔
Awesome! Glad you enjoy it there! Thanks for following along.
Ha! Oops!
How do you not include two major rivers like the Sabine and Trinity?? The Sabine forms the State boundary line with Louisiana just north of Joaquin Texas and the Trinity may be the most important river in Texas... Sulphur and Angelina are two that i can understand not including because they're not as well known
The short answer is time. We mapped out what we could visit in the time we had, knowing we wanted to get up to the Rio Grande in Colorado. Another trip is definitely in the works, and the Trinity and Sabine are high on the list. I've even been made aware of some rivers from folks comments that I wasn't previously aware of, so that gives me even more options. Stay tuned, and thanks for following along!
I really like them, but not for 800 dollars!
I definitely understand. I will say, there are exceptionally well-made and still look amazing on my truck.
What generation raptor wheels? I have a 2020 fx4 with the tow package. I want to do this exact thing on my truck!
I believe these are from a 2019-2020 Raptor, so should fit your situation as well as mine with the same set up. I've enjoyed the heck out of mine!
What about the Sabine river and trinity and sulfur and san Antonio rivers.. white oak creek is big water shed.
I am in the process of planning another trip to explore more of our rivers, and the Sabine, Trinity, Sulphur, and San Antonio are all on the list! Stay tuned...
55 thou ? B.S. it's probably more like 85 thou for that year.
Yes, I agree that now, 3 years after I posted this video, the prices for trucks has skyrocketed. In early 2021, 55k was completely doable for this model and features, but that very soon became unrealistic. Thanks for following along!
That’s cool
It was definitely more of a sea rise that we were expecting. I'm hoping all the businesses affected come through ok with their insurance.
