    Hello, thanks for that, I have same problem, car has been sat for 9 months, went to get it back on the road and found gearshifter very hard left to right Dismantling it will take too much of my brainpower so I'm going to use plenty of WD40, because I'm going to sell the car and I don't have time to do what you did, it was very good but my time is limited, well done, keep up the good work 👌🏽👍🏽

    Thanks for the video. Today I've started doing my valves and that cylinder-head cover is an absolute pain in the ass. I don't have any service history but, there's high probability no one ever done this job until now at 62'000km. Spark plugs were quite black, intake valves were like yours around 0.15, sadly same on exhaust except one that was on the limit. Just to make bit more annoying I didn't have replacement parts, radiator support is bent, cable ziptie holder drops.

    Thanks for the video! Thanks to him I know where the problem with the gear lever of my smart forfour came from. I have solved the problem in a much simpler way. Removing the box where the air filter goes, you access that part of the gearbox where you find that problematic axis. Two small holes are made with the help of a drill in the aluminum that covers the axis until it reaches it, which is made of stainless steel. Liquid grease is introduced with a spray through those two little holes and after several days of using the car the lever returns to the center by itself as when it was new. It's very easy, you don't have to disassemble anything from the gearbox and the result is perfect. I hope it helps and thanks again for the video.

      Cars usually works with hydraulic valve adjusters. These are self setting. Bikes don't use this, Im guessing because it's a more complex/heavier system. And not sure if it can handle the high RPM of many bikes

  • @Stephane1995
    @Stephane1995 Před 3 lety

    Just one tip for anyone doing this themselves, following the manual: the intake camshaft will try to "jump" a tooth on the chain because it's pushing down on the valve and tries to rotate out of the way. What you can do to keep the chain in place until you've put in the cam chain tensioner is use a ziptie to tie the chain to the sprocket temporarily, through one of the holes in the sprocket. Then you can install and tension the tensioner and cut off the ziptie, without the cam trying to jump a tooth.

    • @CoryRoy
      @CoryRoy Před 2 lety

      I did see a ziptie in this video. Now I know why!
