One of the most amazing things I have ever seen!!! Being a Native American it fascinates me to see youth participate in their culture. It's even more amazing to see something like this. Thank Nga Taiatea for sharing your culture with us

WATCH IN HD As we continued traveling along the north island, we stayed at Pohara Marae. During one of our nights we engaged in a cultural exchange with the local community and had a great time doing so. It was one our first real experiences to exchange our Native American culture with that of the Maori people. This is two of our favorite songs we experienced in Aotearoa. I

One night during our trip in Aotearoa we had a cultural exchange with the students at Nga Taiatea Wharekura. It was one of the first times either side had experienced a culture from over seas. It was one of the best nights during our time in New Zealand and helped create friendships that are still strong.

In 2012 my senior class took a trip to Aotearoa through Americans for Indian Opportunity to participate in a cultural exchange with Maori students from schools such as Nga Taiatea Wharekura and Tai Wananga. As Native Americans, we were extremely interested and amazed at Maori culture. This video was taken at the Te Wananga O Aotearoa campus in Hamilton.

I am a West Melanesian from the famous Maluku Spice Islands located to the north of Australia where nutmeg and cloves originally come from. I am always touched whenever I hear my Maori brothers and sisters sing. Emotionally I feel deeply connected and I am sure we share common ancestry. Be blessed always. ❤

As a teenager way back, last century, I signed as crew on a tramp ship, when there were such things. It made its way slowly to South Pacific and Polynesia. For some islands we were about the only ship they'd see in almost a year. To gather copra from uninhabited islands, we'd take islanders & their families with us to surf boats in & out over coral reefs where our ship couldn't anchor. They'd live for weeks on the hatch tops under canvas stretched between lowered derricks. At night they sang and their harmonies, like as here, were magical. I got logged by the Old Man several times for sharing on those hatch tops the majesty of their culture. It was forbidden for (white) crew to fraternize with 'native' labor. But the memory of that year is vivid when I listen here.
